Abstract: A system and a method for transmitting signals having audio data in a vehicle are provided. The system includes a first transceiver configured to receive an analog communication signal having the audio data and to transmit a first FM signal having the audio data in an ISM frequency band in response to the analog communication signal. The first FM signal is transmitted at a first predetermined power level. The system further includes a second transceiver configured to receive the first FM signal and to transmit a second FM signal having the audio data in an FM frequency band in response to the first FM signal. The second FM signal is transmitted at a second predetermined power level less than the first predetermined power level.
Abstract: An electrical connector body includes a rear face, a front face, and a terminal cavity longitudinally extending substantially between the rear and front faces. A rigid retention wall longitudinally extends at least partially between the rear and front faces and includes a terminal retention feature. Abstract: The resistance of an oxygen sensor heating element is estimated by modeling the effects of physical and electrical heating on the resistance of the heating element lead-in conductors, and subtracting the lead-in conductor resistance from a measure of the heating circuit resistance. The lead-in conductor resistance model is based on the temperature of the oxygen sensor boss and the current carried by the lead-in conductors. The heating element temperature is calculated from the determined heating element resistance and initial (cold-start) parameters of the heating circuit.
Abstract: A gear arrangement includes a first section having a first plurality of teeth and at least a portion of the first section is made of a compliant material. There is also a second section having a second plurality of teeth. The second section is made of a stiff material. The first section is arranged axially adjacent to the second section and each of the first plurality of teeth has a tooth flank that changes axially across the tooth flank. A method for manufacturing a gear arrangement includes fabricating a first gear, which includes a first plurality of teeth, and a bearing from a compliant material. The method also includes mounting a second gear, which includes a second plurality of teeth, to the bearing, aligning the first plurality of teeth with the second plurality of teeth, and coupling the first gear with the second gear.

Abstract: The collision of a vehicle with a pedestrian is detected by the presence of a foreign object in a sensing zone above the hood of the vehicle within a prescribed time of an initial impact with the bumper of the vehicle. The initial impact is detected with an acceleration sensor disposed in or near the front bumper and the sensing zone is defined by object detection sensors disposed on the hood or behind the windshield of the vehicle. Vehicle speed is used to discriminate against events that occur while the vehicle is stationary or moving very slowly.
Abstract: An outwardly-opening gas-exchange valve assembly for an internal combustion engine. The valve assembly includes a port in a firing chamber in an engine head, the port having a valve seat on a side opposite from the firing chamber. A piston-shaped poppet valve head slides in a bore in the engine head for mating with the valve seat to occlude passage of gas across the valve seat. Withdrawal of the poppet valve head from the seat opens the firing chamber to communication with an intake or exhaust manifold runner in the engine head. The poppet valve head may be actuated by an overcenter lever arrangement actuated selectively by hydraulic pressure or mechanical actuation. In a preferred embodiment, OO intake and exhaust valves are radially arranged in a hemispherical fire deck and may include an adjustable pitch helical channel to induce swirl to the incoming gas.
Abstract: A driver circuit is described for an ion measuring device associated with a cylinder of a diesel engine for the measurement of the conductivity of the combustion gas present in the cylinder, wherein a negative voltage can be applied by the driver circuit to a glow plug serving as a sensor and associated with the cylinder for a respective ion measurement. The negative voltage is generated by a capacitor which is correspondingly charged each time the glow plug is switched off via the magnetic energy stored in the internal inductance of the glow plug.
Abstract: A method for controlling an electric brake system having a piston moveable by an electric motor is provided. The method includes the steps of storing data for correlating a position of the piston to a braking force applied by the piston, estimating a braking force associated with a specific position of the piston based upon the stored data, generating a control signal based upon the estimated braking force, determining a second braking force associated with the specific position and updating the stored data based upon a difference between the estimated braking force and the second braking force.

Abstract: A seat belt buckle for use with a tongue of a seat belt includes a latch that engages the tongue, and a release bar that releases the latch. An inertia locking device mounted to a frame portion is normally biased in an unlocking position and rotates to a locking position to prevent movement of the release bar into the release position when the seat belt buckle is subjected to a force greater than the biasing force.

Abstract: A technique for manufacturing a piezoresistive sensing structure includes a number of process steps. Initially, a piezoresistive element is implanted into a first side of an assembly that includes a semiconductor material. A passivation layer is then formed on the first side of the assembly over the element. The passivation layer is then removed from selected areas on the first side of the assembly. A first mask is then provided on the passivation layer in a desired pattern. A beam, which includes the element, is then formed in the assembly over at least a portion of the assembly that is to provide a cavity. The passivation layer provides a second mask, in the formation of the beam, that determines a width of the formed beam.
Abstract: An illuminator assembly is provided for supplying night vision illumination. The assembly includes a support housing and an infrared illumination source. An infrared reflector receives the radiation emitted from the infrared illumination source and reflects the infrared radiation in a first substantially collimated field of view and transmits visible light therethrough. A visible light reflector is located behind the infrared reflective mirror for receiving visible light transmitted through the infrared reflector and reflecting scattering the visible light in a second field of view.

Abstract: A transmission control arrangement controls the generation of a required solenoid control current that is provided to an electro-hydraulic pressure control module to ultimately control clutch pressure. The module includes a linear solenoid, which has an up direction pressure-current (P-I) data table and a down direction pressure-current (P-I) data table associated therewith. For large pressure increase change requests the up P-I table is used. For large pressure decrease change requests the down P-I table is used. An interpolation process uses current values taken from both the up and down P-I data tables for pressure change requests that are neither large increases nor large decreases. The control arrangement also includes a variable gain feature that changes the gain in dependence on the gear state of the transmission.
