  • Patent number: 10090099
Abstract: An ignition transformer for use with a spark ignition system for an internal combustion engine includes a central core, a primary coil, a secondary coil, and a magnetic return. The central core defines a first end and a second end. The primary coil is used to vary magnetic energy into the central core in response to a primary current applied to the primary coil. The secondary coil is used to generate a secondary voltage in response to changes in the magnetic energy in the central core. The magnetic return defines a return-path to couple magnetic energy from the first end to the second end. A permeability value of the return-path is selected so the transformer has a secondary-current versus time-response characteristic that decays to fifty-percent (50%) of an initial secondary current when ten percent (10%) to twenty-five percent (25%) of a burn-time interval has passed.

  • Patent number: 10089875
Abstract: A cross-traffic detection system suitable for use on an automated vehicle includes an object-detector and a controller. The object-detector is used to determine locations of a moving-object relative to a host-vehicle. Each of the locations is indicated by a lateral-distance and a longitudinal-distance of the moving-object from the host-vehicle. The controller is in communication with the object-detector. The controller is configured to accumulate a plurality of first-longitudinal-distances of a first-vehicle at a plurality of predetermined-lateral-distances, and determine a path-history of the first-vehicle based on linear-interpolation between successive instances of the plurality of first-longitudinal-distances at corresponding instances of the plurality of predetermined-lateral-distances.

  • Patent number: 10086809
Abstract: A braking system suitable for use on an automated vehicle includes a ranging-sensor, a braking-actuator, and a controller. The ranging-sensor detects reflections indicative of objects present in a field-of-view proximate to a host-vehicle. The braking-actuator controls movement of the host-vehicle. The controller is in communication with the ranging-sensor and the braking-actuator. The controller determines a region-of-interest within the field-of-view and defines an occupancy-grid that segregates the field-of-view into an array of grid-cells. The controller further determines a repeatability-of-detection of each of the grid-cells based on reflections detected by the ranging-sensor. The controller further determines that a rigid-object is present in the field-of-view when each of a string of the grid-cells are characterized by the repeatability-of-detection greater than a repeatability-threshold. The controller activates the braking-actuator when the string intersects the region-of-interest.

  • Patent number: 10054076
Abstract: A system to control fuel-pressure of fuel delivered to a fuel-injector includes a fuel-pump, an absolute-pressure-sensor, a pressure-regulator, and a controller. The fuel-pump is operable to vary fuel-pressure of fuel output by the fuel-pump. The absolute-pressure-sensor indicates an absolute-pressure of the fuel. The pressure-regulator limits the fuel-pressure by releasing fuel output by the fuel-pump when the fuel-pressure exceeds a tank-pressure of the fuel-tank by a pressure-threshold. • Patent number: 10054071
Abstract: A method of operating an internal combustion engine, wherein the engine is operated in an injector learning mode in which an injection parameter associated with a nominal fuel quantity of a pilot injection is learned, includes performing a learning pilot injection based on a candidate value for the injection parameter to influence injection of the nominal fuel quantity and determining a parameter indicative of the actually injected fuel quantity based on the in-cylinder pressure during combustion of the learning pilot injection. The learning pilot injection is operated at an early timing such that combustion thereof complete occurs within a learning window positioned before combustion TDC and before the next combustion starts. The pressure is measured over the learning window, so that the determination of the parameter indicative of the actually injected fuel quantity takes into account essentially the entire combustion event of the learning pilot injection.
