  • Patent number: 8215276
Abstract: An improved deactivation hydraulic lash adjuster wherein the prior art lost motion spring or springs formerly located within the body of the DHLA and below the pin housing are either omitted completely or are reduced in length, spring force, and/or number and are augmented hydraulically, allowing a shorter, more compact lifter body and reduced overall lifter length. The prior art lost motion spring chamber becomes a hydraulic chamber connected to a new pressurized oil supply gallery containing an accumulator in the engine. An embodiment having no lost motion spring and solely hydraulic lost motion return can be even shorter than a spring-hydraulic hybrid because the potential hydraulic pressure to be brought against the pin housing is not a function of the length of the lost motion chamber, which length is limited only by the required displacement of the pin housing.

  • Patent number: 8219286
Abstract: An occupant detection system with noise reduction, a controller having noise reduction for an occupant detection system and a method for reducing noise in an occupant detection system. A high order digital filter is used to filter harmonics of a noise signal from an electrode signal used to determine an occupant presence or absence of the occupant. A way of sampling the electrode signal and the implementation of the high order digital filter cooperate such that the signal processing can be performed by a lower cost general purpose microprocessor as opposed to using a higher cost digital signal processor.

  • Publication number: 20120173080
Abstract: A method and a system for assisting a vehicle operator to parallel park a vehicle. The method and system use only a single proximity sensor to detect a suitable parallel parking space and monitor the position of the vehicle when backing into the parallel parking space. Assistance to parallel park the vehicle may be as little as providing indications or warning to a vehicle operator while the vehicle operator backs the vehicle into the parallel parking space, or may be as much as taking complete control of the vehicle away from the vehicle operator, and autonomously parallel parking the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20120169682
Abstract: A display device built on an insulating substrate suitable for processing on both sides that includes a plurality of conductive through-holes through the substrate. One side is reserved for a high-density array of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). The OLEDs can be high-density because the electrical connections for the OLEDs are on the other side of the substrate and interconnected via the conductive through-holes. The cathode sides of the OLEDs are interconnected by a light transmitting layer overlaying the cathode side that is electrical conductive. On the side of the substrate opposite the OLEDs is an array of anode contacts configured to form an electrical contact with a driver circuit.

  • Publication number: 20120170108
Abstract: A dual view display system that includes a display device and a first louver device. The display device is configured to display a first image at a display location to a first person at a first location and display a second image at the display location to a second person at a second location. The first louver device configured to substantially restrict a first field of view of the first image to the first person. The system may also include a second louver device configured to substantially restrict a second field of view of the second image to the second person. • Patent number: 8209969
Abstract: A burner module for burning injected reformate mixed with engine exhaust in an exhaust pipe ahead of aftertreatment devices, comprising an exhaust flow divider that creates a localized region of exhaust flow for mixture of the reformate. The amount of reformate required to produce a burnable composition in the localized area is less than what is required in the prior art to provide the same composition over the entire cross-sectional region of the exhaust pipe. An igniter is provided within the localized region. Upon ignition of the reformate, the flow of reformate may be increased to the point of a stoichiometric mixture for the entire exhaust, to produce the maximum heat for warm up. The exhaust flow divider may comprise a divider tube mounted in the exhaust pipe or may be simply a protrusion from a wall of the exhaust pipe.

  • Publication number: 20120162734
Abstract: A heads up display (HUD) system that includes a light source configured to project an image, and a diffractive combiner. The diffractive combiner includes one or more reflective volume phase gratings (RVPG), each configured to reflect light from the light source having a distinct wavelength toward a HUD viewer. Each RVPG is also embossed with a pattern configured to diffract light at the distinct wavelength so the HUD viewer can see an image in a field of view that passes through the diffractive combiner. By forming a diffractive combiner with an RVPG embossed with a particular pattern, the occurrence of rainbow artifacts on the surface of the diffractive combiner caused by random sources of light is reduced.

  • Patent number: 8207796
Abstract: A technique of realizing a termination circuit using coupled resonators in stripline configuration of a circuit presented. The circuit absorbs RF energy incident on its input over a frequency band of interest, and dissipates it in to the dielectric substrate, thereby acting like an effective termination in the frequency band. The resonant elements may be constructed in edge-coupled or broad-side coupled stripline configuration. The technique may be extended to build microstrip line termination with edge-coupled resonators. The technique may further be extended to realize attenuators over a narrow band.

  • Patent number: 8208239
Abstract: A capacitor exhibiting a benign failure mode has a first electrode layer, a first ceramic dielectric layer deposited on a surface of the first electrode, and a second electrode layer disposed on the ceramic dielectric layer, wherein selected areas of the ceramic dielectric layer have additional dielectric material of sufficient thickness to exhibit a higher dielectric breakdown voltage than the remaining majority of the dielectric layer. The added thickness of the dielectric layer in selected areas allows lead connections to be made at the selected areas of greater dielectric thickness while substantially eliminating a risk of dielectric breakdown and failure at the lead connections, whereby the benign failure mode is preserved.
