Publication number: 20090120394Abstract: A resonator assembly is described having a longitudinal axis and generator section, an inductance section, a capacitance section, and an ignition section arranged in sections in a common housing along the longitudinal axis. The housing surrounds all the above-mentioned sections and has an opening in the region of the ignition section, and the housing is made of an electrically conductive material or has at least one conductive surface. An electrical series circuit comprising an inductance section and capacitance section constitutes electrically an oscillatable dipole to which the housing acts as a return conductor.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2008Publication date: May 14, 2009Applicant: DELPHI TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventor: Volker Heise

Publication number: 20090120396Abstract: A method for starting an internal combustion engine under cold conditions. The intake manifold throttle valve is held closed and spark ignition is suspended. Fuel and air are admitted into the cylinders and the pistons are cranked for a plurality of revolutions. During each engine revolution cycle, the fuel/air mixture is compressed and heated adiabatically by the energy of the engine starter motor, and the mixture is exhausted into the exhaust manifold. During valve overlap a portion of the mixture is withdrawn into the cylinder and recompressed in the next cycle. Additional fuel may be injected to replace lost fuel. After several engine cycles, the fuel/air mixture becomes heated to a temperature above the flashpoint of the mixture. Sparking is re-established to fire the warmed mixture, and the intake throttle valve is re-enabled. The first firing can provide sufficient heat to continue spark-firing of newly-introduced mixture thereafter.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 7, 2008Publication date: May 14, 2009Applicant: DELPHI TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Roberto G. Publication number: 20090120610Abstract: A sealing system for sealing a heat exchanger assembly to an HVAC module. A plurality of male connecting members is disposed on one of the outer periphery of the heat exchanger and the interior surface of the channel of the HVAC module. A plurality of female connecting members is disposed on the other of the outer periphery of the heat exchanger and the interior surface of the channel of the HVAC module. Patent number: 7530261Abstract: A computer implemented system for engine misfire detection employs a crankshaft-originated speed signal that includes normal variability due to target wheel tooth error and the like. A Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) is performed on the speed signal to convert it into a frequency-domain raw misfire detection metric. The system is configured to normalize the raw misfire detection metric using a non-misfire metric that is obtained by and corresponds to non-misfire operation of an internal combustion engine. A resulting normalized misfire detection metric has such normal variations removed leaving variations attributable to misfire. The system detects a misfire when the normalized misfire detection metric exceeds a predetermined threshold and is bounded by a predetermined phase angle region. The system detects both continuous misfire as well as intermittent misfire. The system also detects single cylinder misfire and multiple cylinder misfire.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2007Date of Patent: May 12, 2009Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventor: James E. Patent number: 7532100Abstract: A method and apparatus for overmolding a plastic shroud onto a bobbin including the step of providing a protrusion ring on the surface of the bobbin surrounding each standoff between the bobbin and a mold wall and extending outwards from the surface of the bobbin. A plurality of standoffs and protrusion rings is presently preferred. The protrusion rings are small relative to the standoffs, have low thermal mass, and thus are readily melted by the injected molten plastic, causing interstitching between the bobbin material and the overmolding material. The interstitching creates a highly effective hermetic seal against moisture leakage along the surface of the bobbin away from the standoff site. Perfect melting of the standoffs is no longer required, and standoffs can be designed to assure proper positioning of the bobbin during the complete overmolding process.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2006Date of Patent: May 12, 2009Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: James P. Patent number: 7529614Abstract: A system and method for controlling a compressor recirculation valve involves establishing a compressor surge flow threshold expressed in terms of a compressor corrected volume air flow rate. A torque-based engine management system computes a desired mass air flow rate in accordance with a torque request and other operating/predetermined data. The desired mass air flow rate is converted into a desired, corrected volume air flow rate, which is then compared to the compressor surge flow threshold. The controller is configured to open the valve when the desired corrected volume air flow rate is less than the compressor surge flow threshold. A hysteresis function is implemented by providing a surge flow hysteresis threshold that is offset from and greater than the initial compressor surge flow threshold. The controller is configured to close the recirculation valve when the desired corrected volume air flow rate becomes greater than the surge flow hysteresis threshold.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2007Date of Patent: May 5, 2009Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Martin Müller
