  • Publication number: 20220313267
Abstract: An implant can be placed into an aneurysm sac that includes a bioabsorbable coiled fiber having a coiled shape similar to a metallic embolic coil. The implant can have an absorption rate long enough so that the aneurysm can become sufficiently occluded and sufficiently healed as the implant is absorbed. The implant can include crossing microfibers to initiate thrombosis within the aneurysm and/or a stretch-resistant member extending through a lumen of the coiled shape to inhibit elongation of the coiled shape. The crossing microfibers can be attached to the coiled fiber by friction fit between coil windings, heat bonding to the coiled fiber, and/or securement to the stretch-resistant member. The coiled fiber, crossing microfibers, and stretch-resistant member can have rates of absorption that differ to promote an accelerated sequence of occlusion and healing of the aneurysm.

  • Patent number: 11458019
Abstract: The present disclosure provides for prosthetic implants to be used in various surgical repairs, including for procedures like total shoulder arthroplasties and reverse total shoulder arthroplasties. The implants include two main parts—a frame and a prosthetic component. The frame includes an aperture that is configured to receive the prosthetic component, allowing the prosthetic component to make direct contact with bone at the surgical site. Various configurations are provided that allow the prosthetic component to be coupled to or otherwise engage with the frame, and at least some of the configurations are such that the reverse procedures can be done without having to fully re-tool and/or modify the bone. A variety of procedures resulting from the improved implants are also provided.

  • Patent number: 11457926
Abstract: An example implant can have a tubular braid. The tubular braid can have an intrasaccular section, an intravascular section, a pinched section, and a predetermined shape. In the predetermined shape, the intrasaccular section can have a sack and an opening. The pinched section can be positioned approximate the opening. The intravascular section can be substantially disk shaped and positioned to occlude the opening. The tubular braid can be movable from a collapsed shape sized to traverse a catheter to an implanted shape based at least in part on the predetermined shape. In the implanted shape, the intrasaccular section of the braid can be sized to be positioned within an aneurysm's sac and the intravascular section of the braid can be sized to appose a blood vessel wall approximate an aneurysm's neck.

  • Patent number: 11457934
Abstract: In one embodiment, an intramedullary nail has a body that includes proximal and distal ends and an inner surface that defines at least one locking hole that extends into an outer surface of the body so as to receive a bone anchor to lock the nail in a medullary canal of a bone. The body has a first biocompatible material that defines at least a portion of the outer surface. The nail has a second material that is different from, and at least partially encapsulated in, the first material. The second material can produce at least one of an electrical current and a magnetic field, and is supported by the nail body such that a position of the at least one bone-anchor locking hole can be detected based on the at least one of the electrical current and the magnetic field.

  • Patent number: 11457950
Abstract: An strut assembly extends along a strut axis and comprises a strut body, an actuator, and a locking assembly. The strut body includes a rod and a sleeve. The rod is translatable relative to the sleeve along the strut axis. The actuator is linearly engaged with the sleeve such that linear movement of the actuator causes linear movement of the sleeve. The locking assembly includes a lock member configured to transition between a locked position in which the lock member engages both the sleeve and the actuator such that rotation between the sleeve and the actuator is substantially prevented, and an unlocked position in which the lock member is spaced apart from the sleeve such that the actuator is substantially free to rotate about the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 11457961
Abstract: Bone anchors and surgical instruments (e.g., bone taps, drivers, etc.) are disclosed herein that include integrated guide tips. Use of these anchors or instruments can eliminate one or more of the steps in a conventional bone anchor installation procedure, improving surgical efficiency and safety. For example, a surgical instrument can include a guide projection configured for insertion through a cannulation formed in a bone anchor when the surgical instrument is coupled to the bone anchor. The surgical instrument can also include various mechanisms for adjusting the position of the guide projection relative to the bone anchor. The guide projection can replace the needle, stylet, and guidewire used in typical insertion procedures. The bone anchor can also include integrated tapping features to eliminate the need for a separate bone tap instrument. Thus, in some embodiments, targeting, tapping, and driving the bone anchor can be performed in a single step.

  • Publication number: 20220304699
Abstract: An implant system presented herein includes an engagement wire, a pull wire, and a braided implant having a distal ring thereon. The engagement wire has an elongated member with a radially extending engagement feature at its distal end. The braid can be moved from a delivery shape sized to traverse a catheter to an implanted shape sized to occlude an aneurysm neck. When the braid is in the delivery shape, the pull wire and the elongated member extend through the distal ring and the engagement feature is in a distal direction in relation to the distal ring. Once at least a portion of the braid is positioned in the aneurysm, the pull wire and the elongated member can be moved in a proximal direction to engage the engagement feature to the distal ring and move the distal ring proximally, thereby reshaping the braid within the aneurysm.
