  • Patent number: 5397079
Abstract: Process for the autonomous positional control of guided missiles, which are to be launched from a carrier plane, but without the cooperation thereof, wherein data on the instantaneous position of the guided missile, as well as flight and target data are fed into a computer of the guided missile already on the ground. The initial data fed into the computer are continually updated with changing values from the inertial navigation and additional navigational aids and are further calculated to achieve autonomous flight guidance and self-guiding of the missile. An uninterruptible power supply of the guided missile is maintained beginning from the moment of data reception.

  • Patent number: 5393018
Abstract: A joint is provided for the unfolding and locking of space elements, such as solar generator panels. On one joint half, a detent lever is swivellably connected having a clamping nose as well as a finger as the guiding element. During the unfolding operation, the finger slides on a guiding contour of the other joint half. Shortly before the fully unfolded condition is reached, the finger engages in a depression, and the clamping nose runs up onto a cam and clamps down on the latter under the effect of the spring tension directed to the common axis of rotation. A movable stop element, e.g. universal ball joint, simultaneously presses against a stop surface so that both joint halves are braced with respect to one another. An arrangement of high stiffness which is as free from play as possible results.

  • Patent number: 5385052
Abstract: An inertial sensor for measuring changes in rotational motion of a sensor support, having a flywheel rotationally movable in the plane of rotational motion relative to the sensor support and a measured value sensor picking up the rotational state of the flywheel relative to the sensor support. A torque coupler is provided between the sensor support and flywheel. The torque coupler has a torque curve that is a linear function of the relative angular velocity between the flywheel and the sensor support. The measured value sensor is designed as an angular position detector that taps off the rotational angle of the flywheel relative to the sensor support.

  • Patent number: 5381147
Abstract: An optical analog to digital converter for microwave signals in which the input to a Mach-Zehnder modulator/interferometer is split into two branches which are provided with respective laser carrier signals having a difference frequency equal to a desired conversion frequency. An input microwave signal is then used to modulate the carrier signal present in one of the input branches to the interferometer, and the resulting output signal is detected and compared with a predetermined threshold value to generate a binary 1 or 0 output. In a preferred embodiment, a plurality of such interferometers are arranged in a parallel configuration and the modulation of the respective carrier signals is scaled by a factor of two.

  • Patent number: 5381152
Abstract: In a rotating antenna synthetic aperture radar, a method and apparatus for unfocussed signal processing for the correlation of the received signals by means of the reference functions. In unfocussed signal processing, only the main portion of the receiving signal S.sub.E is used, in which the phase shift is smaller than or equal to 90.degree. for the go-and return-path of the signal. A simplified window function is used as a reference function whose width also corresponds to the main portion of the received signal. Preferably, the in-phase and quadrature component (I.sub.r, Q.sub.r) of the window function r are selected to be identical.

  • Patent number: 5366179
Abstract: A method of initiating the detonation of a warhead of a friendly guided missile and an arrangement for implementing the method. If a friendly guided missile or flying body, during its target approach phase, approaches an enemy missile or flying body, the active radar target seeker of the friendly guided missile is switched to perform a fine range discrimination, and an additional modulated signal is transmitted by the transmit/receive antenna of the active radar target seeker of the friendly guided missile, with this additional signal being received again after reflection at the enemy missile. With the aid of the received signal, the evaluation and control unit of the active radar target seeker generates an image of the enemy missile and determines the position of the warhead within the enemy missile. The warhead of the friendly guided missile is then guided into the vicinity of the warhead of the enemy missile and caused to explode.

  • Patent number: 5361753
Abstract: A processor based method of measuring and regulating the pressure in the inflatable sealing cuff of a tracheal tube introduced into the trachea of a patient, for generating a constant contact pressure of the sealing cuff against the trachea for the purpose of producing gas-tight respiration for the patient and avoiding the aspiration of fluids from the patient's oral cavity into his breathing passages. The processor receives the actual value of the pressure existing in the sealing cuff as measured by a pressure sensor, detects large and steep increases in pressure in the sealing cuff that deviate from a nominal pressure in the sealing cuff, and interprets the pressure increases as predicting a subsequent widening of the trachea which will result in a decrease of the pressure in the sealing cuff.

  • Patent number: 5351480
Abstract: A jet engine having at least one combustion chamber with a propelling nozzle connected behind it, achieves in a constructionally simple manner and with a high propulsion effect a cross-sectional configuration of a hot gas flow duct bounded by the propelling nozzle that is highly variable with respect to the nozzle throat area as well as to the outlet area. The propelling nozzle contains a divergent lengthening part which is axially movable for the outlet-side expansion of the hot-gas flow duct. In the moved-out position, the lengthening part connects essentially in the corresponding shape to the divergent outlet end of the nozzle outer wall fixed to the engine and, in the moved-in condition, forms together with it an air outlet duct which encloses the fixed nozzle wall end in a ring-shaped manner and whose cross-section can be regulated.

  • Patent number: 5311189
Abstract: The present invention relates to a pulse Doppler radar wherein the phase position of the reflected signals is evaluated as the most important component in addition to the amplitude. Thus a very good resolution results in the range direction and in the velocity direction for the detection of multiple target situations. • Patent number: 5309529
Abstract: A bearing arrangement for a bearing seat for a radial bearing adapted to be disposed in an acceleration-proof gyroscope, on which a brief acceleration produced forces act perpendicularly to a rotational axis of the gyroscope. The bearing seat includes a cylindrical half shell, with a longitudinal center axis of the cylinder of the half shell coinciding with a rotational axis of the radial bearing, and with an open side of the half shell facing in a direction in which the acceleration forces act on the radial bearing. An elastic element urges or biases a support ring into the half shell with a preset force, with the elastic element having a spring characteristic such that the support ring and the radial bearing may be lifted out of the half shell when a predetermined acceleration is exceeded.

  • Patent number: 5305347
Abstract: The invention discloses a method of measuring the rough frequency deviation in digital communication transmissions with echo propagation, particularly in the short-wave domain. A repeatedly transmitted PN sequence serves as the preamble of a data block. This PN sequence is compressed at the receiving end in matched filters provided in each one of a plurality of simultaneous, frequency offset Doppler channels. The Doppler channel having the greatest amplitude in the quadrature signal is selected for a determination of the rough frequency deviation. To detect a pattern in the preamble, the quadrature signals are examined for similarities by an amplitude comparison or in a cross-correlation process.

  • Patent number: 5295724
Abstract: An arrangement for controlling solar heating of passenger cars comprises a covering material which is glued onto parts which are subjected directly to the radiation of the sun in the vehicle interior, and a switching device. The covering layer is composed of a foil with a controllable capacity to transmit light, a reflecting layer and a carrier material. When the engine is switched off during parking, the foil will transmit light, whereby the incident light is reflected on the reflecting layer. In the driving operation of the passenger car, the foil will be dull, impervious to light and absorbs the incident light.
