  • Patent number: 6196570
Abstract: That end of a ski boot which is retained by the boot-retaining unit is retained such that it can be disengaged in the sideways direction and vertical direction. Upon sideways movement of the ski boot within a range of elasticity of the boot-retaining unit, the ski boot is rendered capable of moving increasingly in the upward direction, strong forces in the upward direction producing a force component which additionally forces the boot-retaining unit in the sideways direction.

  • Patent number: 6197147
Abstract: A process for producing laminates which contain at least one centrally arranged, ion-conductive membrane which is, at least over a substantial part of its two mutually opposite flat faces, electrically conductively bonded to at least one catalytically active substance and to at least one two-dimensional, gas-permeable, electron-conductive contacting material, the bonding of at least two of the said components having been effected by lamination. The process comprises carrying out the bonding of the ion-conductive membrane, of the catalytically active substance and of the electron-conductive contacting material continuously. The ion-conductive membrane is brought together with at least the electron-conductive contacting material in the exact position by means of transport and feeding devices and the two components are laminated and bonded to one another by pressing them together. The range of variation in the a.c. resistances of the laminates produced by the process according to the invention is ±10%.

  • Patent number: 6193169
Abstract: A spray nozzle head is rotated directly by a turbine which is driven by the pressure of liquid at the inlet of the nozzle. The turbine is supported by a thrust bearing which also acts as a friction brake to cause the rotational speed of the nozzle head to remain substantially constant as the inlet pressure increases through a predetermined range.

  • Patent number: 6191590
Abstract: A device and method for determining the state of charge of a battery includes a microprocessor-controlled arithmetic unit connected in parallel to the terminal voltage of the battery. The arithmetic unit is selectively connectable with an ohmic reference resistance placed in parallel with a load resistance which is arranged in series with the battery, and with a capacitor chargeable or dischargeable via the arithmetic unit. The arithmetic unit is further capable of acquiring a value of the voltage drop across the capacitor. The arithmetic unit is operable in a first operating state in which it is disconnected from the reference resistance, and a second operating state in which the arithmetic unit is connected with the resistance. After the capacitor is charged to the terminal voltage of the battery, it is allowed to discharge. With the arithmetic unit in the first operating state, a first point in time marked by the voltage across the capacitor reaching a first threshold value is registered.

  • Patent number: 6186316
Abstract: The invention concerns a process for precise electrolytic precipitation and etching of metals up to the marginal area of printed-circuit board and printed-circuit film panel in a continuous-cycle plant. In continuous-cycle plants, the panels are grasped by clips at least at one edge. The clips are used for current supply to the panels and, if necessary, for transporting the latter. Among other factors, owing to the shielding effect of the clips there are great plate thickness differences in the marginal area of the panels. This marginal area cannot be used for precise printed-circuit boards. The invention improves the plate thickness distribution in this marginal area by separating the plant into several partial plants and a defined offset V of the clip gripping points from plant part to plant part. The offset is preferably adjusted to values corresponding to the quotient of the clip distance T and the number of subsequently arranged plant parts.

  • Patent number: 6187238
Abstract: A fiber material of PTFE and, optionally, hydrophilizing additives, for use in the production of diaphragms for the electrolysis of alkali chlorides, as well as for filter layers. The fiber material comprises fiber bundles and these, in turn, comprise individual microfibrils, there being irregularly shaped interstices between the microfibrils. The fiber material is produced in that a PTFE dispersion, consisting of a salt solution with PTFE particles and, optionally, hydrophilizing additives, is treated in a hot gas/vapor stream in a fluidized bed apparatus charged with inert solids. The method permits the fiber material to be produced also in larger quantities in an economic manner.

  • Patent number: 6187207
Abstract: A method and a device for verifying the proper replacement of a used filter that is divided into two chambers by a membrane in a device for extracorporeal treatment of blood. The verification of whether the filter has been properly replaced with a new filter is performed by a pressure retaining test, which determines whether the membrane of the filter is permeable to gas. In the event the membrane is permeable to gas, it is concluded that the used filter has been replaced by a new filter.

  • Patent number: 6187199
Abstract: A method is described for determining hemodialysis parameters during an extracorporeal blood treatment according to which the blood to be treated in an extracorporeal circulation flows through the blood chamber of a dialyzer divided by a semipermeable membrane into the blood chamber and a dialysate chamber, and dialysate in a dialysate path flows through the dialysate chamber of the dialyzer. According to the method pursuant to the invention, the hemodialysis parameter can also be determined when no balanced state has yet been established. The method according to the invention is based on the response of the dialyzer to a pulse function as inlet signal (pulse response) from the course over time of the physical or chemical characteristic quantity of the dialysate upstream and downstream of the dialyzer. The hemodynamic parameter is then determined from the pulse response of the dialyzer.

  • Patent number: 6186441
Abstract: In an aiming or sighting device and an aiming method for determining the impact point of a ballistic flying body such as a rocket or a tube weapon projectile, specific characteristic values of the ballistic flying body are stored in a memory and an evaluating stage produces control signals in response to the specific characteristic values and in response to actual supplied system parameters. The control signals are transmitted to a display and to an adjustment drive. A model of the trajectory of the ballistic flying body is produced on the basis of all respective possible actual system parameters in an evaluating stage, whereby the trajectory is subdivided into at least two phases, each with a respective submodel. The submodel of the first phase is thereby a model with three or six degrees of freedom and the submodel of the second phase is a model with three degrees of freedom. An input unit permits adjusting the mode of operation and the correction of the impact location.

  • Patent number: 6176995
Abstract: The current density with which the process is used is of essential importance for the economy of a method of electrolytically treating materials. Normally only low or medium current densities are used, as the speed of replacement of consumed materials in the direct vicinity of the surface of the material for treatment has a restrictive effect on the magnitude of the current density at which a usable process result can still be achieved. However, a low current density leads to long electrolysis times and to complex treatment installations.
