  • Patent number: 4854290
Abstract: An air preheating device for diesel internal combustion engines, includes a fuel atomizer (2) and an ignition device arranged in the air intake pipe (1). In order to achieve reliable ignition and sufficient preheating of induction air having pulsating currents, an ultrasonic atomizer is used and its atomized stream (3) is located in a zone (5) of stabilized air flow in the intake pipe. The ignition device (4) is also positioned in the zone (5) of stabilized flow and ignites the atomized stream (3). The ultrasonic element (13) is cooled by being positioned in a cool partial current of the intake air.

  • Patent number: 4838028
Abstract: A rotor bearing on the turbine side of a gas turbine is surrounded by a concentric cavity through which fuel is routed from its source to the turbine combustion chamber. The fuel of the gas turbine is used as the coolant for the rotor bearing and at the same time the concentric cavity surrounding the bearing forms a hydraulic "compression" film damping device.

  • Patent number: 4834029
Abstract: A cooling circuit (5) for an internal combustion engine in which a throttle (2) is provided upstream of a heat exchanger (10, 11). The throttle (2) equalizes the oil pressure in the internal combustion engine in front of the heat exchangers and insures that this occurs almost independently of the temperature of the oil. By this provision, the heat exchangers can be fabricated with the least expense since the danger of bursting is reduced.

  • Patent number: 4832835
Abstract: A method and apparatus for treating minerals such as coal in a jig bed having a downwardly opening air chamber beneath the bed wherein the chamber has an air compartment at the upper end retaining a cushioned pillow of air between each jig pulsation with controlled air admitted and relieved from the chamber so that when air is relieved, the water rising in the chamber compresses the air at the upper end and a cushion of air is retained so that with admission of pressurized air, the cushion aids in forcing the column of water from the chamber, particularly at the beginning of operation of the jig.

  • Patent number: 4831917
Abstract: A multiple piece piston is provided for a diesel internal combustion engine having a combustion chamber depression in the crown of the piston. In order to achieve a low rate of heat flow into the piston ring area and thus into the cylinder liner which surrounds the piston, a separate piston base or crown surrounding the combustion chamber depression is formed by a ring element made of a material having poor thermal conductivity, and the main body of the piston is made of a material with high thermal conductivity. The heat of combustion is thus conducted mainly axially through the piston main body and absorbed by sprayed cooling oil. The cooling oil, thus heated, can be utilized for heating purposes.

  • Patent number: 4794884
Abstract: An internal combustion engine with a block cylinder head 7 and a fluid-cooled cylinder liner 1 has a cooling chamber between the cylinder liner 1 and the crankcase 2. The cooling chamber includes at least two partial cooling chambers 9a, 9b which are connected only by a connecting channel 8, and wherein the first partial cooling chamber 9a, which is adjacent to the cylinder head 7, is open in the direction of cylinder head 7 and passes over into a slot-shaped annular chamber 10 in cylinder head 7. A cooling arrangement for a cylinder liner for use with block cylinder heads is provided in which the cooling adjusts itself according to the quantities of heat which need to be removed, i.e., the thermal load is more uniformly carried over the entire axial length of the cylinder liners.

  • Patent number: 4785787
Abstract: A fuel injection system for a diesel engine in which an electromagnetically actuated valve determines the initiation and conclusion of injection. A valve of this sort consists of a primary slide valve component 3 which, in its closed position, makes a seating engagement with a tapered valve seat 5 to close a connecting channel 16 between the injection line 10 and a dumping passage 12. The primary valve component is moved to its open position by an electromagnetically actuated impact bolt 40. In order to avoid problems associated with seat valves, a second electrically operated valve component 6 is provided in a second connecting channel 25 between the high pressure channel 7 and the dumping channel 12.

  • Patent number: 4781158
Abstract: An air-cooled block cylinder head adapted for mounting on an open-deck cylinder casing of an internal combustion engine. In order to maintain a tight seal of the cylinder head to the cylinder casing, the combustion chamber floor of the cylinder head is designed to be deflected in a manner that does not adversely affect the sealing of the cylinder head to the cylinder casing. This is achieved by designing the cooling chamber side of the cylinder head floor with a gradually changing floor wall thickness in the area directly above the cylinder combustion chamber. In the preferred designs, the combustion chamber floor is designed to be concave or convex. The cylinder head also includes features for effectively cooling the combustion chamber floor and for isolating the exhaust conduit.

  • Patent number: 4778219
Abstract: A jigging machine, particularly a movable sieve jigging machine, for the preseparation of deads from valuable material comprises an oscillatory jig bed in the housing filled with separating fluid and comprises deads and valuable material discharge devices located therein, as well as an oscillatory drive for the jig bed. The jigging machine is suitable for underground mining operations in that the outer dimensions of the jigging machine, with respect to the height and width theeof, are designed smaller than the tunnel cross-section of an underground mining operation. A relatively low structure is achieved by designing the housing as a flat trough towards a deads discharge end with the deads discharge being provided as a rising conveyor parallel to the bottom of the trough. Advantageously it is achieved that the quantity of deads to be conveyed is reduced and a considerable saving is provided in terms of energy and expense.
