  • Patent number: 6270783
Abstract: An adhesive cosmetic strip is provided which includes a flexible water-insoluble substrate, an adhesive composition deposited onto the substrate, a liquid crystal thermochromic substance, and an agent interactive with water to ensure a temperature rise of at least 2° C. in the strip. The thermochromic substance may be impregnated into the substrate or dispersed within the adhesive composition. When applied to the skin, the strip is warmed by a reaction between water and an exothermic or endothermic agent held within the strip. Moisture within the skin or externally applied water penetrates the strip and will react with the agent to cause an increase in temperature. Subsequently this increase in temperature will induce a color change in the thermochromic substance.

  • Patent number: 6270780
Abstract: Resveratrol, a component of a variety of common edible plants, including peanuts and red grapes, is a phytoestrogen. Resveratrol inhibits proliferation of skin epidermal cells (keratinocytes) and stimulates their differentiation. Resveratrol was also found to inhibit melanin production by skin cells and to alleviate skin irritation that may be caused by alpha-hydroxy acids. Resveratrol is useful in improving the appearance of wrinkled, lined, dry, flaky, aged or photodamaged skin and improving skin thickness, elasticity, flexibility, radiance, glow and plumpness.

  • Patent number: 6269055
Abstract: A radio-controlled clock movement for use in a radio-controlled clock which is synchronized with timing information supplied by a broadcast time signal includes a sound transducer for providing an audible signal representative of the strength of the received time signal. The clock is synchronized by setting the clock hands to an initial set position, decoding timing information from the broadcast time signal, calculating the relative distance to move the clock hands to make the displayed time synchronous with the decoded timing information and moving the clock hands the calculated relative distance. The initial set position is determined based on the desired time zone. In this manner, time zones are considered when setting the clock.

  • Publication number: 20010008606
Abstract: A ramp assembly (20) for mounting in a low floor bus (22) or other vehicle. The ramp assembly (20) includes a rectangular enclosure (24) that fits underneath the chassis of the low floor bus (22). The ramp assembly (20) includes a reciprocating mechanism (26) for moving a ramp platform (28) between a fully deployed position and a fully stowed position. During this movement, the reciprocating mechanism (26) raises the trailing end of the ramp platform (28) in one translational movement with the extension of the ramp platform, such that the trailing end of the ramp platform, when deployed, is raised to the floor level of the low floor bus (22).

  • Patent number: 6261614
Abstract: In order to provide a food product which has all the ingredients necessary for cooking, breadcrumbs are applied to a food fillet such as fish, oil being subsequently applied to the food portion after which the product is frozen. Preferably oil is applied at a first temperature in a first step and at a higher temperature in a second step. As a result, it is possible to produce a frozen food product comprising a food portion coated with a coating comprising oil/fat and particulate coating material, the weight ratio of oil/fat to particulate coating material being greater than 2:1, and the food product having greater than 10% by weight of oil/fat. Substantially all of the particulate coating material is coated with oil/fat.

  • Patent number: 6262661
Abstract: The infrared detector contains an entrance window for infrared radiation, an infrared sensor with an evaluation circuit and an anti-masking device having an optical transmitter and an optical receiver for detecting phenomena or optical changes immediately in front of the detector and/or changes in the optical properties of the entrance window. The signals of the anti-masking device are evaluated in two channels, wherein one channel responds to temporally limited phenomena or changes and the other channel responds to temporally stable phenomena or changes. A combined evaluation of the signals in the two channels takes place. In the combined evaluation, the channel processing the signals of the infrared sensor is preferably also included. As a result, the infrared detector acquires an increased immunity to false alarms and a higher sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 6261543
Abstract: Antiperspirant emulsions which exhibit excellent phase stability even in the presence of an effective concentration of antiperspirant salts in solution and which are thickened are obtainable by dispersing a hydratable polymer and particularly an amphoteric or cationic modified starch in an aqueous emulsion forming a viscous emulsion, often at an elevated temperature, subjecting the emulsion to high shear, thereby reducing the droplet size of the dispersed oil phase, bringing the emulsion to below 40° C. and introducing the antiperspirant, preferably in aqueous solution. The viscous emulsion subjected to high shear mixing desirably has a Sheer Stress of 10 to 500 Pa. The resultant emulsions show good phase stability even when they contain aluminium/ zirconium antiperspirant salts that promote instability and even at elevated storage temperatures such as at 50° C.
