  • Patent number: 5759556
Abstract: Certain cyclic aliphatic unsaturated compounds which sufficiently inhibit LRAT or ARAT catalyzed esterification of retinol into inactive retinyl esters, have the same effect on keratinocytes as retinoic acid. Thus, effects of the retinol or retinyl esters in combination with these cyclic compounds are analogous to treatment with retinoic acid.

  • Patent number: 5758795
Abstract: A dual-chamber composite pressure vessel includes a first enclosure formed of a fiber reinforced resin matrix, having a hollow cylindrical central section, and first and second oblate end sections formed integrally over respective ends of the central section to define a first chamber. Also included is a second enclosure formed of a fiber-reinforced resin matrix, integrally with the first enclosure, and having a second hollow cylindrical section which is joined at one end to and extends from the second end section co-cylindrically with the central section of the first enclosure. The second enclosure also includes a third oblate end section formed integrally over the other end of the second cylindrical section to define a second chamber.

  • Patent number: 5760407
Abstract: The invention relates to a device and a method for the identification of fluorescing follicles that can be follicular impactions and/or microcomedones (clinically non-evident acne lesions), and/or comedones (clinically evident acne lesions) and/or bacteria on the face or other skin surface area. The inventive device allows the detection of both types of follicular fluorescence (yellow/green and orange/red). For safety reasons, to prevent skin burns and erythema, the filter on the ultraviolet light source removes substantially all the harmful UVB radiation (280-320 nm wavelength range). The filter used in conjunction with the detection means removes reflected and scattered light emanating from the subject's skin surface, thus increasing the sensitivity and discretion of the technique and making fluorescence detection easier and clearer.

  • Patent number: 5756439
Abstract: The present invention relates to liquid detergent compositions comprising anionic/amphoteric surfactant systems. Addition of specific EO-PO copolymers wherein ratio of anionic to EO-PO polymer is defined has been found to remarkably enhance mildness. • Patent number: 5755305
Abstract: A hydraulic vibration damper includes a noise-reducing valve structure that isolates the region of cavitation away from the metal structures forming the pressure cylinder, the piston and valve structures. The improved design includes a sharper rebound land edge angle forming a boundary near the valve exit, enlarging the region of working fluid adjacent the valve structure exit within which implosions can take place. This design also dispenses with the use of a skirt around the perimeter of the piston, and removes contact between the piston and the pressure cylinder. A support piston provides contact with the interior surface of the pressure cylinder. These features distance the region of cavitation from metal surfaces of the piston and valve structures, thereby significantly reducing the transmission throughout the vibration damper of noise and vibration caused by implosions within the working fluid.

  • Patent number: 5753152
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing matrix capsules having hydrocarbon cores sufficiently large to contain large size particle actives which process comprises dispersing actives in hydrocarbon core material, and dispersing the active containing hydrocarbon in a polymer solution to form a polymer matrix emulsion of drops of said core material in said solution. The key to the invention is to obtain the dispersion by utilizing low shear rates previously uncontemplated using the standard shearing machinery of the art. This in turn is accomplished by maintaining the core within defined rheological parameters. By using lower shear rates, applicants were unexpectedly able to prepare capsules capable of stably incorporating large size actives in the core.
