    Abstract: The recessed lighting fixture includes a light source module and a driver housed within a unified casting, and within a shared outer casing. The outer casing may be coupled to a hangar holder that is movably coupled to a corresponding hangar bar. The outer casing, including the light source module and driver installed therein, may move both 1) in the length direction of the hangar bar and 2) perpendicular to the length direction of the hangar bar. The recessed lighting fixture may have less bulk and size than traditional recessed lighting fixtures. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

    Abstract: A thin profile surface mount LED lighting apparatus includes a housing, an LED board including multiple uniformly distributed LEDs, and a lens. The lens has a back side facing the LED board and a front side that provides a downward facing surface when the LED lighting apparatus is installed in an opening of a ceiling. The lens is disposed with respect to the LED board such that the LEDs illuminate the back side of the lens. A first spacing of the LEDs causes resulting light from the downward facing surface of the lens to be substantially uniform during operation of the apparatus. In one example, a thin front edge of a sidewall of the housing, forming a perimeter around the lens, is flush with the lens and is appreciably thin (e.g., a thickness of less than three millimeters), and a depth of the sidewall housing is less than one inch.

The system may also include a trim to cover an exposed edge of a hole in a ceiling or a wall into which the recessed lighting system is installed. The system also may include one or more connecting mechanisms to couple the trim to one or both of the junction box/enclosure and the casting. In one example, the casting includes a front end face and the one or more connecting mechanisms couple the trim to the front end face of the casting. The connecting mechanism(s) may include a twist-and-lock friction connection.

In embodiments, the luminaire can be completely rotated a full 360 degrees and also can be tilted through a range of 45 degrees from directly downward. According to certain aspects, luminaire can be easily installed from below the ceiling line in a fire rated junction box. According to certain additional aspects, the luminaire can further be easily adjusted after installation to any desired tilt angle and/or any desired rotation. In embodiments, the luminaire can incorporate different lenses with narrow to moderate beam spreads from 10 degrees to 40 degrees.

This sequence may be repeated periodically to maintain a target ambient illumination.

    Abstract: A compact recessed lighting system is provided. The recessed lighting system includes a light source module and a driver coupled to a unified casting and within a shared junction box. The junction box may be coupled to a set of hangar holders that are movably coupled to a corresponding set of hangar bars. The junction box, including the light source module and driver installed therein, may move both 1) along the hangar bars and 2) along an axis perpendicular to the hangar bars. Accordingly, the junction box may be moved to rest in preferred location between a set of joists or beams in a structure. By being configured such that the junction box, along with the light source module and driver, is coupled to a unified set of moveable elements that position the combined structure, the recessed lighting system eliminates the added bulk and size of traditional recessed lighting systems.

    Abstract: A recessed lighting unit for mounting to a ceiling or a wall is provided. The recessed lighting unit includes a thermally conductive housing, a light source module inside the housing, and an optical plate. The housing maybe engaged to a universal adapter through a simple twist and lock mechanism. The clips enable the universal adapter to be attached to junction boxes and recessed lighting can-type housings of different sizes. The universal adapter can receive different types of clips, without the use of screws, adhesives, or tools to attach the clips to the adapter. Such a recessed lighting unit may have a reduced set of components while ensuring its adaptability and easy installation. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

    Abstract: A compact recessed lighting system is provided. The lighting system includes a light source module and a driver separately coupled to a unified casting. The driver is formed in a “donut” shape such that the light source module may be coupled to the casting in the center hole formed by the driver. The lighting system may also include a reflector that surrounds the light source module and shields the driver from exposure to the area surrounding the lighting system. Based on this configuration, the lighting system provides a compact design that allows the combined casting, light source module, driver, and reflector to be installed in a standard junction box instead of a “can” housing structure to reduce the overall cost of the lighting system while still complying with all building and safety codes/regulations. This configuration also allows the lighting system to achieve a UL fire-rating of at least two hours.

The through-duct may be coupled to a wire connector assembly to secure an electrical wire to the interface module and allow the electrical wire to reach a light source module. The wire connector assembly may be twisted and locked to the interface module without the use of tools. The lighting trim may be snapped on to an interface module through the use of a flexible retainer ring. The lighting trim may also be twisted and locked to an interface module without the use of tools. The present invention provides for a reduced set of components while ensuring adaptability and easy installation of lighting units. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
