Abstract: Apparatus, methods, and computer-readable media are provided for segmentation, processing (e.g., preprocessing and/or postprocessing), and/or feature extraction from tissue images such as, for example, images of nuclei and/or cytoplasm. Tissue images processed by various embodiments described herein may be generated by Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining, immunofluorescence (IF) detection, immunohistochemistry (IHC), similar and/or related staining processes, and/or other processes. Predictive features described herein may be provided for use in, for example, one or more predictive models for treating, diagnosing, and/or predicting the occurrence (e.g., recurrence) of one or more medical conditions such as, for example, cancer or other types of disease.

Abstract: The invention refers to a combination comprising a sigma ligand of formula (I) and an opioid or opiate for use in the prevention and/or treatment of pain developed as a consequence of surgery, especially peripheral neuropathic pain, allodynia, causalgia, hyperalgesia, hyperesthesia, hyperpathia, neuralgia, neuritis or neuropathy. The invention also refers to the sigma ligands of formula (1) for use in potentiating the analgesic effect of an opioid or opiate and/or for decreasing the dependency induced thereby when said opioid or opiate is used in the prevention and/or treatment of pain developed as a consequence of surgery.

Abstract: A method for regulating a brightness of a luminous unit includes regulating the luminous unit by a pulse width modulator which provides an electric current having a predefined current value Y at a start time t0; modulating the electric current to a predefined brightness value at the start time t0 with a frequency of switching pulses that is chosen depending on a predefined brightness value; and progressively reducing the current value of respective switching pulses of the pulse-width-modulated electric current to a current value Y? proceeding from a start time t0 until a target time t1. The current value Y? is chosen in such a way that the luminous unit is luminous with the predefined brightness value upon a permanent supply with an electric current corresponding to the current value Y?. The respective switching pulses of the electric current are lengthened in their duration until a continuous electric current arises.

Abstract: A position-measuring device includes a position-sensing unit, a processing unit, an interface unit, a clock generator and a time measurement unit position-sensing unit configured to generate digital position values. The processing unit processes instructions from subsequent electronics. The interface unit communicates with the subsequent electronics, according to rules of an interface protocol, via at least one interface line that transmits interface signals having a temporal behavior that is determined by the interface protocol so as to transmit the instructions from the subsequent electronics to the processing unit. The clock generator generates a clock signal that serves as a time base for functions of the position-sensing unit and the processing unit. The time measurement unit uses the clock signal as a time base, receives at least one interface signal and measures a time interval between a start event and a stop event of the at least one interface signal.

Abstract: Disclosed is an optimized pharmaceutical formulation for the treatment of inflammatory conditions of the esophagus. A pharmaceutical formulation in the form of an orodispersible effervescent tablet is stable, easy to produce, and can be used without dissolving same in a liquid. It is not necessary to drink anything with the tablet as this would reduce the time that the budesonide solution remains in the affected regions of the esophagus. The effervescent tablet of the invention surprisingly resulted in an unexpectedly high rate of histological remission in patients with active eosinophilic esophagitis.

It is possible for a substantially circularly annular, metallic brake lining to be inserted into an insulation body which is made from ceramic material and separates the piston from the brake lining in a thermally insulating manner. The insulation body is configured with side faces which adjoin the circularly annular brake contact face so as to run toward the annular circumferential face in a convexly rounded manner in the direction of the piston.

Abstract: Clinical information, molecular information and/or computer-generated morphometric information is used in a predictive model for predicting the occurrence of a medical condition. In an embodiment, a model predicts risk of prostate cancer progression in a patient, where the model is based on features including one or more (e.g., all) of preoperative PSA, dominant Gleason Grade, Gleason Score, at least one of a measurement of expression of AR in epithelial and stromal nuclei and a measurement of expression of Ki67-positive epithelial nuclei, a morphometric measurement of average edge length in the minimum spanning tree (MST) of epithelial nuclei, and a morphometric measurement of area of non-lumen associated epithelial cells relative to total tumor area. In some embodiments, the morphometric information is based on image analysis of tissue subject to multiplex immunofluorescence and may include characteristic(s) of a minimum spanning tree (MST) and/or a fractal dimension observed in the images.
