  • Publication number: 20190393360
Abstract: The increasing power density and, therefore, current consumption of high performance integrated circuits (ICs) results in increased challenges in the design of a reliable and efficient on-chip power delivery network. In particular, meeting the stringent on-chip impedance of the IC requires circuit and system techniques to mitigate high frequency noise that results due to resonance between the package inductance and the onchip capacitance. In this paper, a novel circuit technique is proposed to suppress high frequency noise through the use of a hyperabrupt junction tuning varactor diode as a decoupling capacitor for noise critical functional blocks. With the proposed circuit technique, the voltage droops and overshoots on the onchip power distribution network are suppressed by up to 60% as compared to MIM or deep trench decoupling capacitors of the same capacitance.

  • Patent number: 10488368
Abstract: An inventive approach is disclosed to integrate Digital Image Correlation (DIC) with the Acoustic Emission method that may be used for structural health monitoring and assessment of critical structural components in civil, mechanical, and aerospace industries. The inventive approach relies on passively recording acoustic emission across the specimen being tested and activating the DIC cameras automatically to measure deformation on the specimen's surface. The resulting acousto-optic system can be used to determine damage initiation, progressive damage development, identify critical regions and make lifetime predictions of the tested specimen.

  • Patent number: 10466096
Abstract: A sensing method is based on using a special fiberoptic probe for detection of acoustic/ultrasound pressure in an immersion medium. The developed system is highly sensitive in detecting ultrasound waves up to 100 MHz, for imaging of micro structures and more. For applications up to 100 MHz, without spatial averaging corrections, the probe tip is modified by reducing the fiber diameter to 7 um or less. Also, to maximize acousto-optic interaction, the probe tip, not just its end face, may be coated with a thin layer of metallic material. This thin film coating satisfies partial transparency of the metallic coating. The coating thickness may range from 2 nm to 10 nm or others depending on the type of the coating material. The probe detects the pressure of acoustic and/or ultrasound waves propagating within an immersion medium, whenever the probe tip is immersed inside the medium, and having a reasonable immersion contact surface.
