Abstract: A heat transfer system includes a steam chamber that communicates in an open-loop arrangement with a first steam source for supplying steam to the steam chamber, the steam chamber including a steam exit for supplying steam to air at atmospheric pressure. A heat transfer tube communicates in a closed-loop arrangement with a second steam source for supplying steam to an interior surface of the heat transfer tube, the heat transfer tube vaporizing condensate forming within the heat transfer system back to steam that is supplied to the air via the steam exit. The outer surface of the heat transfer tube is configured to contact the condensate and vaporize the condensate back into steam, wherein the heat transfer tube includes a plurality of pockets formed on the outer surface of the tube, each pocket including a pocket exit/entry portion having a smaller cross-sectional area than the cross-sectional area of the pocket at a root portion thereof adjacent the outer surface of the tube.

Abstract: Multi-operational mode fluid extractors and associated methods are disclosed herein. An extractor configured in accordance with a particular embodiment includes a waste fluid tank positioned to receive extracted waste fluid and an air mover proximate to the waste fluid tank. A first airflow connector couples the air mover to the waste fluid tank for drawing a vacuum in the waste fluid tank. A second airflow connector is operably coupled to the waste fluid tank and positioned to be coupled to a suction source that is spaced apart from the extractor. In particular embodiments, heat from air moving through the air mover can be transferred from the air mover cavity into the waste fluid tank.

Abstract: Dehumidifiers with improved airflow and fluid management features are disclosed herein. A dehumidifier configured in accordance with a particular embodiment includes a housing, a moisture removal component, and an airflow director. The housing at least partially defines an airflow path extending therethrough. The moisture removal component is positioned within the housing along a portion of the airflow path, and the airflow path enters the moisture removal component in a first direction. Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses directed to determining the performance of a dehumidifier are disclosed herein. A method of determining dehumidifier performance configured in accordance with one embodiment includes determining an inlet humidity value for airflow entering the dehumidifier, and determining an outlet humidity value for airflow exiting the dehumidifier. The outlet humidity value is determined based at least in part on an efficiency or correction factor for the dehumidifier. The method further includes comparing the inlet humidity value with the outlet humidity value to determine the amount of moisture that the dehumidifier is removing for the air.
Abstract: A counterfeit detection apparatus is formed as a desktop currency detector which has a slim configuration and a small footprint on the order of about 175 mm×100 mm. The desktop counterfeit detector provides white light that can shine from below a currency bill that is placed on its translucent cover and also provides and overhead UV lamp which is situated approximately 30 mm above the translucent light table. The detector also provides a compartment for a counterfeit detector pen which contains a special ink formulation that can apply a color changing test mark to a currency bill to test its reaction with the paper to determine its genuineness. Thus, the detector provides a three-test opportunity to check the genuineness of a currency bill by white light, UV light and a specially formulated ink suitable for checking the paper stock.

Abstract: A panel comprising a substrate having a top substrate surface and a bottom substrate surface. Abstract: A photovoltaic module generates electrical power when installed on a roof. The module is constructed as a laminated sandwich having a transparent protective upper layer adhered to a photovoltaic layer. The photovoltaic layer is adhered to a rigid layer formed from a composite panel of fiber reinforced plastic and a metallic layer. The laminated sandwich has a plastic-clad aluminum frame around the perimeter. The laminated sandwich is coated with a moisture resisting coating. The laminated panel has a layer of double stick tape on the bottom to adhere the panel to the surface of a roof.
Abstract: A roofing module provides weather protection generates electrical power. The module comprises a base having a plurality of curved crests and curved pans. The crests and pans have contours sized and shaped to match the size and shape of the contours and pans of conventional clay or concrete S-tiles to enable the base to interlock with the conventional clay or concrete S-tiles. The base is made from lightweight plastic material. Each crest of the base includes a depressed portion. A photovoltaic panel is positioned in the depressed portions of at least two curved crests and span across at least one curved pan between the at least two curved crests.
Abstract: A method for creating and marketing a commercial or residential real estate derivative instrument in the form of a structured note, future contract, or call or put option that provides a cash-settled payout to the buyer at a predetermined expiration date defined by the derivative instrument based upon the occurrence of a required change in value of a benchmark real estate index between a first, e.g., purchase date and the expiration date. The real estate derivatives instruments of the present invention may be used by property owners, developers, and financial institutions to hedge against a possible devaluation of their real estate assets. Institutional investors may use the derivative instruments to speculate in the value of commercial or residential real estate in order to broaden their investment portfolios.
