Patent number: 6176537Abstract: A truck bed or liner for installation in a pickup truck bed or cargo vehicle exhibits improved electrical charge dissipating characteristics. The preferred embodiment bed is manufactured of high density polyethylene (HDPE) or similar material containing particles of conductive material such as carbon black dispersed therethrough. In a first alternate embodiment, the bed defines a two-layer composite or sandwich. The upper layer of HDPE or similar material includes dispersed carbon black particles whereas the lower layer is free of such particles. A second alternate embodiment of the invention comprehends a bed liner for disposition in a pickup truck wherein the conductive material is dispersed throughout the liner material. In a third alternate embodiment, the bed liner of the second alternate embodiment is combined with the composite conductive and non-conductive layers of the first alternate embodiment.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1999Date of Patent: January 23, 2001Assignee: Durakon Industries, Inc.Inventor: Satish J. Patent number: 6048017Abstract: A liner for installation in the bed of a pickup truck or cargo vehicle includes a bottom panel bounded by vertical walls and a friction enhancing material secured to the upper surface of the bottom panel. The material is preferably an open mesh fabric or webbing which may be woven but is preferably extruded in order to ensure bonding of threads or filaments at their intersections. Preferably, as well, as the webbing is made of material similar to the material of the bed liner which is typically high density polyethylene (HDPE) in order that appropriate autogenous bonding between the liner and mesh may be achieved and furthermore that the liner, mesh and manufacturing scrap may be readily recycled.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1997Date of Patent: April 11, 2000Assignee: Durakon Industries, Inc.Inventor: Satish J. Patent number: 5803524Abstract: Interior sidewall protection panels for a cargo van incorporate expansion absorbers which allow equalization the disparate thermal expansions of the sidewall panel and the cargo van without causing distortion of the panel. The sidewall protection panel includes a plurality of horizontally ribbed or convoluted regions which are interrupted by flat vertical strips or panels which align with the vertical braces or strainers on the interior of the cargo van. At the intersection of the horizontally ribbed regions with the flat vertical strips is a U-shaped expansion accommodating member. The sidewall protection panel is secured to the vertical strainers of the cargo van by semi-permanent, positive fastening means. Given a sidewall protection panel having a length of between six and eight feet (1.83 to 2.44 meters), a temperature rise of 60.degree. F. (33.degree. C.) may cause free expansion of a typical sidewall panel of from one-half to three-quarters of an inch (12.7 mm to 19.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1997Date of Patent: September 8, 1998Assignee: Durakon Industries, Inc.Inventor: Jerry J. Patent number: 5738471Abstract: A cargo tie down assembly for disposition in the stake opening of a pickup truck or similar vehicle facilitates ready installation, secure mounting and easy removal. The tie down assembly includes a plastic base member having a flange which overlies the stake opening on the truck bed rail and a centering projection depending from the flange which is substantially complementarily to the size and shape of the stake opening and centers the member therewithin. The tie down also includes an integrally formed eyelet and flange member having an elongate threaded member which receives a conventional expandable toggle assembly. A through opening in the flange member receives the toggle and threaded member and a split collar on the flange member allows expansion of the toggle and its retention under the rail of the truck.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1996Date of Patent: April 14, 1998Assignee: Durakon Industries, Inc.Inventors: Edward Zentner, Jerry J. Patent number: 5381940Abstract: A tray is adapted for use as a protective and organizational device in vehicles. The tray is comprised of bottom and side wall portions, the side wall portions rising above the perimeter of the bottom portion forming an opening into the tray. A separating organizer is provided having spaced apart vertical support members which support a horizontal support member. The horizontal support member has a plurality of extending separation arms which are used to abut and support a transported container, thereby resisting any tendency the container may have to tip. A protective tray is also provided which is supported by the tailgate or side wall of a pick-up truck. A cover is provided over the opening of the tray, eliminating any contact between outside elements and the contents of the tray.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1993Date of Patent: January 17, 1995Assignee: Durakon Industries, Inc.Inventor: David W. Wright

Patent number: 5269447Abstract: An elongated plastic vehicular cargo tray (10) includes a corrugated floor (14), a pair of spaced and corrugated side walls (20, 22), and a pair of end walls (24, 26) forming a truncated box-like structure. A selectively moveable divider device (34) is securely received in the tray (10) to provide lateral support for cargo disposed therein. The divider device (34) includes a bent wire form frame member (52) having first and second tabs (46, 48) for seating within respective grooves (30, 32) formed in the side walls (20, 22) of the tray (10). The frame member (52) also includes first and second hook-like feet (40, 42) for anchoring the divider device (34) to the corrugations (16) in the tray floor (14).Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1992Date of Patent: December 14, 1993Assignee: Durakon Industries, Inc.Inventors: Jerald Gower, Kelly J. Patent number: 5100193Abstract: A truck bed liner which protects the bed of a pick-up truck is fastened to the pick-up truck bed without needing to drill into or puncture the bed of the pick-up truck. The liner is comprised of a resilient portion which is adapted to be deformed and retained in its deformed position within the lipped end of the truck bed side wall rail. The force brought about by deforming the resilient portion acts on the liner in a way which prevents it from dislodging from the truck bed. Further, a removable tab is also disclosed as the resilient portion. The tab can be easily removed for replacement.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1991Date of Patent: March 31, 1992Assignee: Durakon Industries, Inc.Inventors: John C. Oprea, Jerald F. Gower
