Abstract: Novel thermally imageable monochrome product compositions, elements, and processes are disclosed herein. These compositions and elements characteristically have high contrast and fast imaging speeds. The thermally imageable compositions of this invention comprise (a) at least one near IR-absorbing dye having the structure given in the specification; (b) at least one HABI compound; (c) at least one leuco dye; (d) at least one acid-generating compound; and (e) a polymeric binder. Optionally at least one UV stabilizer and/or at least one inhibitor of color formation can also be present. These compositions have the propensity for affording, upon imaging, highly colored images having high optical density values. At the same time, background color is low in preferred compositions even after extensive exposure to ambient light. These compositions are imagewise exposed to near IR radiation from a laser or other device to effect color formation (i.e., generation of an image).

Abstract: This invention is directed to an aqueous coating composition containing about 40-90% by weight, based on the weight of the coating composition, of an aqueous carrier and 10-60% by weight, based on the weight of the coating composition, of a binder of(a) about 50 to 98%, based on the weight of the binder, of a crosslinked graft copolymer comprising:(i) 2 to 98%, based on the weight of the graft copolymer, of a polymeric backbone of polymerized mono ethylenically unsaturated monomers and 0.5-10.
Abstract: The present invention is a fuel injection system having one or more fuel injectors and an electronic control system therefore. The preferred fuel injector has a double magnetic latching solenoid three-way or four-way spool valve that controls the flow of a working fluid that is used to control the discharge of fuel into the combustion chamber or intake manifold of an engine through the nozzle of the injector. The control system provides actuating current pulses to each of the solenoids to actuate and latch the solenoids to effect initiation and termination of the injection. Disclosed are control systems that provide a snap action in one or both actuating directions of the valve by electromagnetically retaining the valve in the latched condition until the force in the actuated solenoid builds to a high level, and then releasing the valve for higher acceleration to the actuated position.

Abstract: A method and a device are described for the simultaneous fabrication of identical Bragg gratings in different optical fibres or optical waveguides. The fibres/waveguides (1) are mounted side-by-side on a common support (2), along with a phase mask (3), which gives the desired intensity distribution to a writing radiation of the grating. Said common support (2) is reciprocated transversally to the longitudinal axis of the fibres or waveguides, at an appropriately low frequency such that each fibre/waveguide is exposed to such a radiation, at each pass under the radiation, for a time sufficient to start a refractive index change.

Abstract: A cutting apparatus for a vehicle, particularly for cutting sods and removing plants, comprising a transmission device which is connected by elements a power take-off coupled to a driving device. The cutting apparatus is supported by a supporting structure which is articulated to one or more axes. The cutting apparatus comprises a guiding and supporting element which is supported by the supporting structure and is shaped so that upon assembly it is arranged like a circular arc along its longitudinal extension. A plurality of sliding blocks is slidingly associated with the guiding and supporting element along its edge; the sliding blocks are mutually connected and moved by a flexible element. Each sliding block supports a corresponding cutting element which is suitable to cut and remove plants. The plurality of sliding blocks and the corresponding flexible element form a closed cutting loop which is kinematically coupled to the power take-off.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for agitation-free, low temperature drying of fragile, temperature sensitive, granular materials at atmospheric pressure using Radio Frequency (RF) energy to provide the heat of evaporation. A relatively low velocity flow of purge air through either a continuously moving or stationary product bed provides means for removing moisture from the product at atmospheric pressure. The purge air is maintained at a controlled humidity, temperature and velocity, and the intensity of the RF field is controlled in response to temperature sensing means to control the temperature of the product. For the case of a continuously moving product bed the RF applicator is preferably divided into multiple zones, which may be independently controlled, to effect control of the moisture and temperature profile of the product as it passes through the apparatus.
