  • Patent number: 5829241
Abstract: A process and apparatus for making alternate S and Z twist plied yarn from individual singles yarns includes the steps of tensioning the singles yarns as they move in a path through the process, twisting the individual yarns in either an S or Z direction, snubbing the yarn to restrain ply twisting so the twist in the singles yarn can equalize itself, stopping the forward movement of the yarn, then bonding the ply-twisted yarns at a node while applying twist, stopping the twisting operation, then repeating the procedure while twisting in the opposite direction. The ply twisted yarn has a lower defect level of less than 2.5 defects per 100 inch length of yarn.

  • Patent number: 5829421
Abstract: An improved capacitive discharge ignition apparatus includes disable circuitry for permitting shut-off of the engine. The disable circuitry is operative to gate the discharge SCR, thereby shorting current that would otherwise charge the storage capacitor. A portion of the charging current is diverted through a transistor to the SCR gate. The transistor is rendered conductive for a predetermined time by a RC circuit connected to its base. The RC circuit is charged by momentary contact of a user-actuated switch. The time constant of the RC circuit is preferably selected to achieve engine stoppage under any anticipated operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 5830305
Abstract: Compositions, methods, and systems for manufacturing articles, particularly containers and packaging materials, having a highly inorganically filled matrix. Suitable inorganically filled mixtures are prepared by mixing together an organic polymer binder, water, one or more aggregate materials, fibers, and optional admixtures in the correct proportions in order to form an article which has the desired performance criteria. The inorganically filled mixtures are molded to fashion a portion of the mixture into a form stable shape for the desired article. Once the article has obtained form stability, the article is removed from the mold and allowed to harden to gain strength. The articles may have properties substantially similar to articles presently made from traditional materials like paper, paperboard, polystyrene, plastic, or metal. They have especial utility in the mass production of containers, particularly food and beverage containers.

  • Patent number: 5830548
Abstract: Compositions and methods for manufacturing composite laminate structures incorporating sheets having a moldable matrix are disclosed. Suitable compositions are prepared by mixing together a water dispersable organic binder, water, and appropriate additives (such as aggregates and fibers) which impart predetermined properties so that a sheet formed therefrom has the desired performance criteria. The compositions are formed into sheets by first extruding them into a sheet and then calendaring the sheet using a set of rollers. The calendered sheets are dried in an accelerated manner to form a substantially hardened sheet. The drying process is performed by heated rollers and/or a drying chamber. The inorganically filled sheets so formed may have properties substantially similar to sheets made from presently used materials like paper, cardboard, polystyrene, or plastic. Such sheets can be rolled, pressed, scored, perforated, folded, and glued before or after being incorporated into composite laminate structures.
