Publication number: 20110315550Abstract: The present invention is directed to a corrosion resistance evaluator suitable for corrosion testing coated metals substrates, such as autobodies. A corrosion resistance evaluator provided with a chamber containing electrolyte to which anode and cathode coated with protective coating being tested are exposed. These coatings are provided with predetermined and standardized defects, such as micro-holes to accelerate the corrosion of the underlying metal substrate in a predictable and repeatable manner. The coated cathode/anode pair is subject to a start-up period followed by series preset DC voltages for preset durations that are interspaced with recovery periods. The impedance date collected is then used to arrive at the corrosion performance resistance of the coating applied over the cathode/anode pair. The foregoing evaluator substantially reduces the time required to test corrosion from several days (40 plus days) to few days (about two days).Type: ApplicationFiled: January 4, 2010Publication date: December 29, 2011Applicant: E.I. Patent number: 8084671Abstract: This invention relates to polynucleotide sequences encoding a gene that can confer resistance to the plant pathogen Colletotrichum, which causes anthracnose stalk rot, leaf blight and top dieback in corn and other cereals. It further relates to plants and seeds of plants carrying chimeric genes comprising said polynucleotide sequences, which enhance or confer resistance to the plant pathogen Colletotrichum, and processes of making said plants and seeds. The invention further presents sequences that can be used as molecular markers that in turn can be used to identify the region of interest in corn lines resulting from new crosses and to quickly and efficiently introgress the gene from corn lines carrying said gene into other corn lines that do not carry said gene, in order to make them resistant to Colletotrichum and resistant to stalk rot.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2007Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Assignees: Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, University of DelawareInventors: Karen E. Patent number: 8083731Abstract: An apparatus for laser processing of a material, in particular the eye cornea, emits on to the material a train (18?) of laser radiation pulses having a pulse duration in the femtosecond range. The pulse train comprises a multiplicity of successive pulse groups, each pulse group comprising at least two laser radiation pulses (20?, 22?). The pulses of a pulse group are directed at substantially the same processing site of the material, but the pulses of successive groups are directed at substantially different processing sites of the material. According to the invention the time interval between successive laser radiation pulses of a pulse group is in the nanosecond range. In particular, the intensity or energy of the pulses within a pulse group is graduated, in such a way that a preceding prepulse (20?) has substantially lower intensity or energy than a following main pulse (22?).Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2007Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Assignees: Wavelight AG, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Forderung der Angewandten Forshung E.V.Inventors: Andreas Tunnermann, Klaus Vogler
