Abstract: A touch display apparatus comprises a touch display structure and a touch controller electrically connected thereto. The touch display structure comprises a display layer, an electric circuit layer, and a second electrode. The electric circuit layer, disposed under the display layer, comprises a substrate, a driving electrode, and a first electrode. The driving electrode and the first electrode are disposed on an upper surface and a lower surface of the substrate, respectively, and are electrically connected to the touch controller, respectively. The second electrode is disposed under the first electrode and electrically connects to the touch controller. The first electrode and the second electrode generate a touch control signal in response to a press of a user or an electromagnetic signal. The touch controller receives and processes the touch control signal, and then, the touch controller transmits the touch control signal to the driving electrode to drive the display layer.

Abstract: An ion source is disclosed which utilizes independently powered electrodes that are isolated with a series of insulators. The ion source comprises an anode electrode with a hollow interior, where the anode is disposed between a cathode and an anti-cathode. A magnet or electro-magnet imposes a magnetic field in an axial direction through the bore of the anode. Gas is introduced into the anode area at a controllable pressure. The ion source includes a first voltage differential between the anode and cathode for the production of plasma and a second voltage differential between the anode and the anti-cathode for extraction of ions from the plasma, forming an ion beam, which is preferably of a narrow diameter at low beam energy. In particular, the voltage differential between the anti-cathode and anode is adjusted to control the initial beam divergence of extracted ions. An optional focus electrode with an independent power supply further focuses the ion beam.

Abstract: Methods for treating biomass for release of fermentable sugars with an improved inhibitor profile are provided. Specifically, a hydrolysate comprising fermentable sugars with an improved inhibitor profile is obtained by saccharification of a reaction product obtained by pretreating biomass with ammonia under suitable reaction conditions. The pretreated biomass reaction product has an acetamide to acetate molar ratio greater than about 1 and an acetyl conversion of greater than 60%. The acetamide to acetate molar ratio is maintained greater than about 1 throughout saccharification. The hydrolysate may be fermented to a target compound.

Abstract: A hologram (and related hologram element) contains and exhibits a holographic image when illuminated and viewed on angle and with the holographic image gradually fading when viewed increasingly off angle in 1st-3rd directions. This hologram also contains and exhibits a monochrome wash surface that obscures (partially or totally) the holographic image when viewed in a 4th direction as the hologram is increasingly rotated off angle in a 4th direction through a range of angles. The hologram can be fabricated with a variety of color choices for the monochrome wash surface. The hologram is useful in security and authentication applications and is used in a method provided herein for authentication of an article.
Abstract: A yarn, fabric, and garment suitable for use in arc and flame protection and having improved flash fire protection consisting essentially of from (a) 50 to 80 weight percent meta-aramid fiber having a degree of crystallinity of at least 20%, (b) 10 to 30 weight percent flame-retardant rayon fiber, (c) 10 to 20 weight percent modacrylic fiber, (d) 0 to 5 weight percent para-aramid fiber, and (e) 0 to 3 weight percent antistatic fiber based on the total weight of components (a), (b), (c), (d), and (e). In one embodiment, garments made from the yarn provide thermal protection such that a wearer would experience less than a 65 percent predicted body burn when exposed to a flash fire exposure of 4 seconds per ASTM F1930, while maintaining a Category 2 arc rating.
Abstract: Compositions related to the quantitative trait locus 6 (QTL6) in maize and methods for their use are provided. The compositions are novel molecular marker loci that are genetically linked with QTL6 and which are associated with increased oil content and/or increased oleic acid content and/or an increased oleic acid/linoleic acid ratio of a plant or plant part thereof. These novel markers are characterized by the presence of at least one polymorphism relative to the corresponding marker locus from the QTL6 region of non-high-oil, non-high-oleic acid maize plants. In some embodiments, the novel marker loci comprise coding sequence for a maize DGAT1-2 polypeptide or biologically active variant thereof.

Such a sensor system comprises a capacitive electrode device (10), an electrode shielding element (20) which surrounds the electrode device (10) at least in part in order to shield the same (10) from interfering external electromagnetic fields, and a signal processing device (30) for processing electromagnetic signals that can be detected by means of the electrode device (10). According to the invention, additional shielding means (21) three-dimensionally surround the electrode device (10) and the electrode shielding element (20) at least in part in order to block out interfering external electromagnetic fields. The changes in the electrode capacity of the capacitive sensor system are determined with the aid of several methods which particularly use the inventive sensor system in order to take said changes into account when the test signals are evaluated.

Abstract: The invention relates to image sensors produced on a thinned silicon substrate. To limit the optical crosstalk between adjacent filters and, notably filters of different colors, the invention proposes positioning, between the adjacent filters of different colors (FR, FB, FV), a wall (20) of a material tending to reflect the light so that the light arriving obliquely on a determined filter corresponding to a first pixel does not tend to pass toward an adjacent filter or toward a photosensitive zone corresponding to an adjacent pixel but is returned by the wall to the first filter or the photosensitive zone corresponding to the first pixel. The wall is preferably made of a material with a high reflection coefficient such as aluminium and it is sunk depthwise into the thinned semiconductor layer (16), preferably in p+ diffusions formed in the layer if it is of p-type.
