Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the manufacture of 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene comprising: (a) dehydrofluorinating 1,1,1,2,3-pentafluoropropane in the presence of a dehydrofluorination catalyst comprised of chromium (III) oxide, and alkali metal, to produce a product mixture comprising 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene and less than 20 parts per hundred 1,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propene; and (b) recovering said 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene from the product mixture produced in (a).
Abstract: The invention is directed to polyimide based adhesives having a coefficient of thermal expansion (“CTE”) equal to or below 50 ppm/° C. The adhesives of the present invention contain a polyimide base polymer present in the overall adhesive in an amount from 25 to 95 weight percent. The polyimide base polymer has a glass transition temperature (“Tg”) in a range of from about 150 to about 300° C. and typically has a coefficient of thermal expansion above 50 ppm/° C. The polyimide based adhesives of the invention also contain an aramid micro fiber filler in an amount from 5 to 75 weight percent, based upon the total weight of the polyimide based adhesive. The fiber filler can be used to lower CTE of the overall adhesive to match (or nearly match) the CTE of other materials like metal, silicon wafers, other polymers (including polyimide) and the like.
Abstract: A fluidic device includes a fluidic module with a first fluid chamber and a second fluid chamber closed with the exception of a fluidic connection to the first fluid chamber. A drive is formed to impart the fluidic module with a first rotation at a rotational frequency below a rotational frequency threshold at which liquid is pneumatically held in the first fluid chamber and does not enter the second fluid chamber. The drive is further formed to impart the fluidic module with a second rotation at a second rotational frequency above the rotational frequency threshold at which a liquid column created in the first fluid chamber becomes unstable and the liquid enters the second fluid chamber.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a coating composition for rendering a glass surface water repellent. The coating composition can comprise one or more perfluoroalkyltrichlorosilanes, a perfluoropolyether carboxylic acid, and at least one fluorinated solvent.
Abstract: Present invention relates to a device for reducing vibrations of a vibrating object as well as a method for reducing vibrations, wherein the perturbing vibrations are reduced drastically by induction of counter-forces. In general, vibrations of equal frequency (counter-vibration) as the perturbing vibration are generated. The force generated by the counter-vibration acts onto the vibrating object, whose amplitude of vibration is to be reduced. The phasing of the counter-vibration is antipodal to the vibration to be reduced, preferably the force of the generated counter-vibration is greater than the force being necessary for compensation of the perturbing vibration. The transfer of the force of the counter-vibration onto the vibrating object is affected by means of a magnetorheological or electrorheological material, whereby the absolute value of the transmitted force is adjusted by the magnitude of an applied magnetical or electric field.

Abstract: A quantum cascade laser structure in accordance with the invention comprises a number of cascades (100), each of which comprises a number of alternately arranged quantum wells (110a to 110j) and barrier layers (105 to 105j). The material of at least one quantum well (110a to 110j) as well as the material of at least one barrier layer (105 to 105j) is under mechanical strain, with the respective strain being either a tensile strain or a compression strain. The quantum wells (110a to 110j) and barrier layers (105 to 105j) are engineered in the quantum cascade laser structure in accordance with the invention so that existing strains are largely compensated within a cascade (100). In the quantum cascade laser structure in accordance with the invention, each material of the quantum wells (110a to 110j) has only one constituent material and the material of at least one barrier layer (105d, 105e, 105f) has at least two constituent materials (111a, 111b, 112a, 112b, 113a, 113b).
