Abstract: The invention is directed to polyimide based adhesives having a coefficient of thermal expansion (“CTE”) equal to or below 50 ppm/° C. The adhesives of the present invention contain a polyimide base polymer present in the overall adhesive in an amount from 25 to 95 weight percent. The polyimide base polymer has a glass transition temperature (“Tg”) in a range of from about 150 to about 300° C. and typically has a coefficient of thermal expansion above 50 ppm/° C. The polyimide based adhesives of the invention also contain an aramid micro fiber filler in an amount from 5 to 75 weight percent, based upon the total weight of the polyimide based adhesive. The fiber filler can be used to lower CTE of the overall adhesive to match (or nearly match) the CTE of other materials like metal, silicon wafers, other polymers (including polyimide) and the like.
Abstract: Peptides have been identified that bind with high affinity to hair, skin, and nails. Peptide-based hair conditioners, hair colorants, skin conditioners, skin colorants, and nail colorants are described. The peptide-based hair conditioners and hair colorants consist of a hair-binding peptide coupled to a hair conditioning agent or a coloring agent, respectively. The peptide-based skin conditioners and skin colorants consist of a skin-binding peptide coupled to a skin conditioning agent or a colorant, respectively. The peptide-based nail colorants consist of a nail-binding peptide coupled to a coloring agent. In all these compositions, the peptide may be directly coupled to the active agent or the coupling may be via a spacer. Personal care compositions containing these peptide-based conditioners and colorants are also described.

Abstract: A two-element f-? lens used for a micro-electro mechanical system (MEMS) laser scanning unit includes a first lens and a second lens, the first lens is a meniscus lens of which the concave surface is disposed on a side of a MEMS mirror, the second lens is a biconcave lens, at least one optical surface is an Aspherical surface in both main scanning direction and sub scanning direction, and satisfies special optical conditions. The two-element f-? lens corrects the nonlinear relationship between scanned angle and the time into the linear relationship between the image spot distances and the time. Meanwhile, the two-element f-? lens focuses the scan light to the target in the main scanning and sun scanning directions, such that the purpose of the scanning linearity effect and the high resolution scanning can be achieved.

Abstract: A digital method and system allowing crystal identification in radiation detector machines is described. The crystal identification is based on recognition of radiation detector signal shape through discrimination of detector signal's dynamic characteristics. The digital method is based on recursive and non-recursive algorithms, such as adaptive filtering combined or not with quantization methods. These digital algorithms, commonly used in other engineering applications, were modified and tailored for radiation detection. Although the method was specially designed for crystal identification measurement, which is exemplified here, it can effectively recognize the detector signal shape in any radiation detection context.

Abstract: Radically coupled PTFE polymer powders useful, for example, as tribomaterials, and a method for production thereof. Radically coupled PTFE polymer powders are provided which, when incorporated into a matrix as PTFE polymer compound, exhibit improved wear resistances, and furthermore there is provided a simple and efficient method for the production thereof. Radically coupled PTFE polymer powders are provided comprising radiation-chemically and/or plasma-chemically modified PTFE powders, onto the particle surface of which homopolymers, copolymers or terpolymers are radically coupled via a reaction in dispersion or in substance. A method is provided in which PTFE powders with reactive perfluoroalkyl-(peroxy) radical centers after a radiation-chemical and/or plasma-chemical modification are reacted in dispersion or in substance with the addition of polymerizable, olefinically unsaturated monomers, whereby during the reaction a polymer-forming reaction is obtained.
Abstract: Novel addressing schemes for controlling electronically addressable displays include a scheme for rear-addressing displays, which allows for in-plane switching of the display material. Other schemes include a rear-addressing scheme which uses a retroreflecting surface to enable greater viewing angle and contrast. Another scheme includes an electrode structure that facilitates manufacture and control of a color display. Another electrode structure facilitates addressing a display using an electrostatic stylus. Methods of using the disclosed electrode structures are also disclosed. Another scheme includes devices combining display materials with silicon transistor addressing structures.

Abstract: A method of producing a welding seam with a single laser pulse, the laser pulse and the work piece being moved relative to each other at a high velocity. This results in the length of the welding seam formed being primarily the product of pulse duration of the laser pulse and the relative velocity of work piece and laser pulse. The invention also relates to a method in which the work piece moved at high velocity relative to the laser beam is subjected along the welding seam to be formed to repeated applications of a single laser pulse. In that case the length of the welding seam is defined principally of the product of pulse duration of the laser pulse and the relative velocity of the work piece and laser pulse divided by the number of applications.
