  • Patent number: 4888381
Abstract: A crystalline polyester film or sheet coated with a priming composition consisting essentially of a carboxyl group-containing copolyester, wherein the carboxyl groups are introduced either by treatment of the terminal hydroxyl groups of the copolyester with a dicarboxylic acid anhydride or by pyrolysis of the copolyester. Such primer compositions form continuous wet films and dry coatings and provide surfaces receptive to a variety of surface finishes such as further polymer coatings and inks. Further, the primer-coated polyester can be recycled and can be used in applications where the coating is in contact with food articles.

  • Patent number: 4886057
Abstract: An assisted breathing interface device for use by emergency care personnel in administering artificial resuscitation of a patient includes a housing unit having an open interior first and orifices communicating with the interior and a vent structure communicating with the interior. The first orifice may be engaged by the mouth of the emergency care administrator and the second orifice may be inserted in and engaged by the mouth of the patient, with the vent structure exteriorly opening to the ambient environment. A valve structure is provided which, when opened, permits passage of air from the first orifice, through the interior and out of the second orifice. When closed, the valve structure prohibits air flow from originating at the second orifice to exit through the interior and out of the first orifice, but permits the air to exit to the ambient environment out of the vent structure. When open, the valve structure preferably restricts air flow from passing out of the interior by way of the vent structure.

  • Patent number: 4886875
Abstract: A process for improving the stability of a polyarylate resin by reducing the terminal carboxyl acid group concentration of the polyarylate resin, the process being comprised of melting a mixture of the polyarylate resin and an aromatic carbonate capping agent and reacting the mixture under heat and, if necessary, vacuum until the concentration of the terminal carboxyl acid groups is reduced to less than that of the polyarylate resin prior to end-capping. The process also results in a polyarylate resin with a decreased flammability rating when the aromatic carbonate capping agent is bromine substituted.
