Abstract: An operating device for a cooktop has a cover with a control panel with a plurality of operating areas. Below the panel, several FSR sensors are positioned. When a control panel is pushed down by a process of operation, the FSR sensor changes its electrical resistance resulting in change of a signals that can be detected and interpreted as operation of the appliance by a user.
Abstract: The present invention is generally directed to perfluoroalkylated fluorene polymers. It further relates to a process for preparing the polymers and devices that are made with the polymers.
Abstract: A system and method for scheduling advertisements in a television service network environment. An ad scheduler prepares an ad insertion schedule based on channel change statistical information and avail time information. The scheduler evaluates the statistical information, time durations between adjacent avails in a presentation stream, and the relatedness of market segments assigned to a plurality of advertisements. It schedules the ads into presentation stream groups based on this evaluation. The statistical ad scheduling allows the system to eliminate “forced” switching between multiple presentation streams, whereby system wears and malfunctions can be decreased.
Abstract: A reclining chair, in particular a passenger chair, for use in a vehicle such as an aircraft, bus or mobile home. The chair includes a base assembly, a seat frame located above the base assembly, a seat attached to the seat frame, and a seat back connected to the seat frame. In various embodiments, the chair includes features such as an energy absorbing base assembly, an adjustable arm rest, a fully reclining seat back and a seat that increases its angle with respect to the horizontal as the seat back reclines, thereby forcing one back into the chair. The seat and seat back is also capable of achieving a fully horizontal position when the seat back is fully reclined.
Abstract: This invention relates to an isolated nucleic acid fragment encoding an Mlo homolog. The invention also relates to the construction of a chimeric gene encoding all or a portion of the Mlo homolog, in sense or antisense orientation, wherein expression of the chimeric gene results in production of altered levels of the Mlo homolog in a transformed host cell.
Abstract: A pallet which is made from elongate steel members of arcuate cross section which are welded together to form a frame, and plastic slats which are engaged with a snap action with the steel members and which form a planar upper surface for the pallet.
Abstract: The installation includes a microwave heater station (14) having a microwave applicator, and a support (10) suitable for supporting the receptacles (12) in the heater station. The support (10) has at least one receptacle zone (20) which is defined by the surface (10A) of the support and by a metal band (24A, 24B) fixed to the support. The zone (20) serves to support a receptacle (12) whose bottom stands on the surface (10A) of the support and whose side wall (12B) is surrounded by the band. The support can be a conveyor bringing the receptacles into the heater station.

Abstract: A tension adjustment mechanism for a stringed musical instrument suitable for use on a tailpiece assembly comprises a pivoting member (such as a string receptor), an adjustable stop, and a lever handle engaged with the pivoting member. The pivoting member preferably has a post for securely receiving an end of a string and an elongate arm. Placement of the handle in a first position preferably causes the adjustable stop to engage and depress the elongate arm of the pivoting member, thereby increasing tension on the string. Placement of the handle in a second position preferably causes the adjustable stop to disengage the elongate arm of the pivoting member, thereby allowing the pivoting member to return to its original position, and decreasing tension on the string. A fine tuning adjustment may be included in the tailpiece assembly. The adjustable stop and/or fine tuning adjustment may comprise adjustable screws.
Abstract: A computer network server using HTTP (Web) server software combined with foreground view composer software, background view composer software, a view tile cache, view tile cache garbage collector software, and image files provides image view data to client workstations using graphical Web browsers to display the view of an image from the server. Problems with specialized client workstation image view software are eliminated by using the Internet and industry standards-based graphical Web browsers for the client software. Network and system performance problems that previously existed when accessing large image files from a network file server are eliminated by tiling the image view so that computation and transmission of the view data can be done in an incremental fashion. The view tiles are cached on the client workstation to further reduce network traffic. View tiles are cached on the server to reduce the amount of view tile computation and to increase responsiveness of the image view server.
Abstract: The present invention provides a curable cathodic corrosion protection powder coating, which comprises a thermosetting resin, a zinc borate compound, a curing agent in an amount effective to cure the coating. Further, the present invention also provides a method of cathode corrosion protection which includes the steps of subjecting the substrate to a mechanical treatment, applying to said treated steel surface, the cathodic protective coating, and polarizing the coated material as a cathode.
Abstract: A system for time resolved spectroscopy comprises a CCD device arranged to receive a time varying spectrum. Time resolved spectroscopy is the analysis of a spectrum that varies with time due to any cause. The variation with time of the spectrum may be due, for example, to (i) changes of the spectrum from a given sample space with time (such as due to emission decay); and (ii) changes in the spectrum as successive portions of a sample space are sampled (such as laser scanning microscopy). The CCD device comprises an array of photosites arranged to detect the time varying spectrum and to produce signal charge representative of the spectrum, and one or more CCD multiplication registers arranged to receive the signal charge and to provide charge multiplication. An enhancement of speed and sensitivity is given by a storage area which receives the signal charge in parallel from the array of photosites to provide the charge in serial to the one or more multiplication registers.
Abstract: Methods of and apparatus for drilling, casing and/or completing a borehole wherein one or more portions of the borehole are drilled into a formation at a single diameter along the entire length or depth of the or each portion of the borehole. An expandable tubular member is then located within the or each portion of the borehole and radially expanded in the or each portion to line and/or case it or them. Optionally, a corrosion resistant member and/or a service string can be located in the borehole. An advantage of certain embodiments is that a single diameter borehole is formed along the entire length or depth thereof.
Abstract: Analyzing an analysis time signal that has been generated from encoding and decoding and original time signal according to an encoding algorithm. The encoding block raster underlying the analysis time signal used by the encoding algorithm is determined. The analysis time signal is converted from its timely representation of analysis spectral coefficients to a spectral representation by using the established encoding block raster. At least two analysis spectral coefficients are grouped. The greatest common divisor of the analysis spectral coefficients are calculated, corresponding to the quantization step width used when quantizing the encoding algorithm or an integer multiple of it. In the case of an audio signal, the scale factor can easily be established for this group of spectral coefficients, i.e., for a scale factor band, from the quantization step width. All parameters used for the quantization of the original time signal are known; full iteration loops need not be performed.

Abstract: A shoe including an upper, a lower attached to the upper, and an outsole attached to the lower is presented. In one embodiment, the outsole has a ground contacting surface which includes a first section and a second section, with the first section being formed of a first material and the second section having an outer later formed of a fabric material. The first section is free of the fabric material and is instead formed of other suitable materials, such as rubber, leather, etc. The outsoles and uppers are configured so that they can easily be mixed and matched with one another for assembly of the shoe at time after each of the individual components is separately made.
