Abstract: Satisfactory bonding of refractory aggregate is obtained by providing the aggregate with at least 5.0% by weight of free CaO of minus 200 mesh (Tyler Standard Sieve) particle size, adding a small amount of a lithium compound to the aggregate and heating to a temperature of about 450.degree. C. The modulus of rupture at room temperature of a brick made from dead burnt dolomite aggregate containing a fine fraction providing the finely divided CaO and the lithium compound additive and fired to 450.degree. C. is well above 400 psi and may be substantially equivalent to that of a brick made of the same aggregate without the lithium compound additive and fired to 1200.degree. C. The invention comprises the method of increasing the low temperature bonding strength of refractory aggregates, the unfired mixtures of the refractory aggregate containing the requisite CaO and the lithium compound with or without temporary liquid or solid binding agents, and the fired products made therefrom.

Abstract: A terminal of a digital telecommunication system working in a so-called "ping-pong" mode, with alternate reception and transmission of data words in respective halves of a recurrent operating cycle, has a phase-lock circuit whose oscillator is stabilized by a control signal periodically extracted from an incoming bit stream during the data-receiving phases. The receiving section of the terminal has a branch obtaining incoming bipolar data words from an input/output transformer and converting them, with the aid of a peak detector and an integrator or a monoflop, into respective timing pulses whose leading edges recur with the same periodicity as the data words.

Abstract: A conductive through-hole is formed by plasma etching a hole completely through a dielectric sandwiched between conductors and by deforming at least one conductor which has been undercut during the etching.
Abstract: Angular orientation of a straightener machine roll relative to the vertical axis thereof is achieved through the use of a pair of single acting hydraulic actuators imposing force against a roll support member on laterally opposite sides of a vertical plane through the roll axis, and vertical orientation is achieved through the use of a double acting hydraulic piston and cylinder unit to which the roll support member is attached. Corresponding servo valve mechanisms control fluid flow to the two single acting actuators and to the double acting piston and cylinder units, and both angular orientation and vertical orientation are selectively position or force controlled.
Abstract: A main body is provided including a first side moveable laterally toward and away from an elongated member to be turned. The first side includes a pair of outwardly projecting arms whose base ends are pivotally supported from the body for swinging movement of the outer free ends of the arms toward and away from each other and the free arm ends include idle rollers journalled therefrom. A drive roller is journalled from the body inwardly of the first side thereof and elongated flexible drive member structure is trained about the drive and idle rollers.

Abstract: A substrate coated with a dried coalesced composition of a liquid carrier and a binder of a blend ofa. an acrylic polymer containing glycidly groups, andb. a crosslinkable polysiloxane having attached to the silicone atoms of its backbone alkyl groups, phenyl groups and hydroxyl groups;optionally, a fluorocarbon polymer can be added to the composition;the composition cures at ambient temperatures and provides a finish to metal substrates that is durable, weatherable and heat resistant and is particularly useful for coating pipes, tanks, vessels and stacks of plants and refineries that are subjected to weathering, chemicals and heat.
Abstract: An aqueous slurry of 0.2 to 2.0 weight percent aramid fibrids and aramid floc in a weight ratio of 0.25 to 20, respectively, is refined in a disc refiner having grooved facing plates with surface dams, the distance between the facing plates being 0.20 to 1.0 mm.
Abstract: A coating composition that contains as the film-forming binder an acrylic vinyl oxazoline polymer, an alkyd resin and an additive of a polyisocyanate of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.7 is a hydrocarbon group having six carbon atoms; ultraviolet light stabilizers, an organic solvent and optionally a plasticizer; this composition cures rapidly at ambient temperatures to a tough, durable, weatherable, scratch resistant and gasoline resistant finish particularly useful for repairing finishes of automobiles or trucks.
Abstract: The structure comprises a matrix formed by juxtaposing solid prefabricated matrix elements each provided with at least one cavity extending from one face to another face of the element, the matrix elements being arranged so that the cavities form continuous longitudinal housings, and reinforcing elements are inserted in the housings to form at least four bundles each constituted of spaced-apart reinforcing elements parallel to a same respective direction with the directions of the bundles being different fom each other and being such that, considering any plane of the space, at least two directions are not parallel to the plane, whereby a coherent composite structure is obtained without the need of binding material.

Abstract: A process for preparing covalent hybrid antibodies is provided. These antibodies are obtained by the ordered covalent hybridization of intact immunoglobulin molecules. The generation of half-molecules from different IgG antibodies by reductive or S-sulfonation selective cleavage is followed by the ordered association of the different half-molecules. The pure covalent hybrid antibodies as new substances are also provided along with IgG half-molecules.
Abstract: A temperature-sensitive element on a rotatable drum of a copying machine changes a characteristic in response to a temperature on said drum. The characteristic is employed to control a temperature signal. The temperature signal from the drum is connected to stationary portions of the copying machine through sliding contacts. A control circuit responds to the temperature signal to control the energization of a heater to maintain the temperature of the drum at a predetermined value. The temperature signal and the control circuit complement each other to avoid errors caused by changes in resistance in the sliding contacts. In one embodiment, the temperature signal is a controlled current, independent of resistance in series with it, and the control circuit measures the current.
Abstract: Substituted peptide compounds of the formula ##STR1## are disclosed. These compounds are useful as hypotensive agents due to their angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition activity and depending upon the definition of X may also be useful as analgesics due to their enkephalinase inhibition activity.
