Patent number: 6937119Abstract: A tuning door is fabricated for a resonant cavity of a high frequency apparatus. Contact fingers are formed around the edge of a conductive plate. The plate is then fixed to a support by, for example, double sided adhesive tape. The conductive plate is part of the interior surface of the resonant cavity. The fingers may be formed in one operation, for example, by photoetching and are fully integral with the active surface to give optimum electrical conduction between them. Other types of high frequency apparatus may use contact fingers to provide electrical conduction between a movable wall and an adjacent conductive surface.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2000Date of Patent: August 30, 2005Assignee: E2V Technologies (UK) LimitedInventors: Stephen Bardell, Mark Bridges, James R Johnson, Andrew Sleet, Stuart W Andrews

Patent number: 6937904Abstract: Recovery from peripheral nerve and nerve plexus injuries is usually slow and incomplete because the regenerating motor axons often head erroneously toward sensory receptors rather than muscle fibers and because the target muscles atrophy while waiting for the slow process of reinnervation. Research has suggested that electrical stimulation with different waveforms and temporal patterns at different times during the regeneration process might improve the clinical outcome through various mechanisms, but a practical means to deliver such stimulation has been lacking. This invention teaches the use of miniature electrical stimulators that can be implanted alongside the injured nerve(s) at the time of surgical repair and that can be powered and controlled by transmission of radiofrequency energy from outside the body so as to provide a variety of electrical stimuli at different times during the recovery process.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2001Date of Patent: August 30, 2005Assignee: Alfred E. Publication number: 20050188297Abstract: Techniques are provided for synchronizing audio and visual content. A multiple audio language product can be produced containing a single video file that is automatically synchronized to whichever audio the viewer selects. The audio streams and video streams are processed into a plurality of segments. If, for example, an audio stream is selected that corresponds to a particular language, which is not the original audio stream that the video was synchronized to, then the duration of each audio segment in the selected stream can be compared with the duration of each segment in the original audio stream. The number of frames in a segment of the video stream can be adjusted based on the comparison. If the playback duration of the selected audio segment is greater than the corresponding original audio segment, one or more frames in the video segment can be repeated.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2004Publication date: August 25, 2005Applicant: Automatic e-Learning, LLCInventors: Jeffrey Knight, Shane Hill, Michael Diesel, Peter Isermann, Richard Beck

Patent number: 6933714Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for measuring the impedance of an energy supply system at a rated frequency by impressing a testing current (3) into the system and measuring (4) the resulting changes in a system current and a system voltage. According to the invention, the system current and the system voltage are measured during a first preselected time interval (T1) without impressing of the testing current and are measured during a second preselected time interval (T2) with the impressing of the testing current. The testing current is composed of at least one periodic signal with at least one testing frequency (f1, f2) that deviates from the rated frequency. Based on the measured system currents and system voltages, a Fourier analysis is used to determine a resulting impedance for the testing frequency (f1, f2). The impedance of the energy supply system at the rated frequency is derived from the impedance obtained for the testing frequency (f1, f2) (FIG. 1).Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2003Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: Institut fuer Solare Energieversorgungs-technik (ISET) Verein an der Universitaet Gesamthochschule Kassel e.V.Inventors: Heiko Fasshauer, Michael Viotto
