Abstract: The method of manufacturing, composition and product described herein utilize highly electrically resistive carbon black alone or with low resistivity carbon black to form a self-limiting electrically resistive semi-conductor which presents a positive temperature co-efficient of resistance, the methods which are described providing significantly shortened anneal times, manufacturing ease and reliability.
Abstract: A nonlinear signal transducer U, such as a light-emitting diode or a semiconductive laser, is maintained at a suitable operating point by a constant biasing current and receives an electrical input signal by way of a series resistor R from a main amplifier AM of variable gain. The output voltage of the main amplifier is detected and integrated to provide a first reference voltage which is compared with the load voltage of the transducer U in a differential amplifier AE1, forming part of a first feedback loop, to adjust a voltage generator GT controlling the output voltage of the main amplifier AM so as to eliminate any voltage drop across the series resistor R as long as the input signal is absent or has an instantaneous magnitude equal to its mean value.

Abstract: A method of forming a packet of signatures is proposed, comprising a known step of depositing onto the feeding belt of the stacker signatures from the folding machine, and which includes a transport step of the groups of overlapping signatures to a stacking station, a step during which the presence or absence of signatures is detected upstream of the stacking station, with the issuing of a control signal active on detent means for the stacking, and a stacking step with a following step of removal of said detent means and a step of removal of the formed stack. It is, preferably, also included a step of detecting the presence or absence of signatures downstream of the stacking station, with the issuing of a corresponding control signal active on the stacking detent means.

Abstract: A system for determining the location of a seismic wave source in a homogeneous medium (the soil) comprises a linear array of equispaced sensors sampled by respective pulse extractors in turn feeding a plurality of cascaded two-dimensional recursive digital filters which act as phase shifters estimating in small or incremental steps the magnitude of the wave field away from the sensor array. The output signals of the sensors are sampled at a rate equal to the ratio of the distance between the sensors and the wave velocity in the homogeneous medium, thereby giving rise to samples distributed in a single quadrant of the space-time domain. An attenuator connected in series with the phase-shifting filters damps frequency components outside the rotated quadrant, while an equalizer connected in cascade with the attenuator ensures a global linear response thereof.

Abstract: A scan pattern estimator is used in a scanning electromagnetic sensor system in which electromagnetic radiation is repetitively scanned and sensed for a plurality of scan cycles. The first incoming scan pattern is transmitted to a summer (42) that produces an output scan pattern in response thereto. A delay unit (46) receives and delays the output scan patterns for a period of one scan cycle. The output of the delay unit (46) is multiplied with incoming scan patterns in a multiplier (38). The output of the multiplier (38) is applied to the summer (42). The output of the delay (46) is also applied to the summer (42). Thus, the output of the summer (42) represents a scan pattern estimate of incoming scan patterns with reduced pertubations and interference relative to the incoming scan pattern.
Abstract: A filter for filtering water, e.g. seawater, for industrial use, in condensers for steam turbines, for example, comprising a spiral housing having a strainer or filter member and having an inlet inclined with respect to the housing and an outlet generally in alignment with the strainer or filter member which is preferably cylindrical. The inlet and spiral shaped housing combine to provide a sweeping water flow pattern along the periphery of the strainer or filter member. A partition is disposed parallel to the axis of the strainer or filter member between the strainer or filter member and the spiral housing, remote from the inlet relative to the flow of water around the strainer or filter member. Solids are collected in an area defined by the partition and parts of the strainer or filter member and spiral housing immediately upstream thereof. Solids may be continuously or intermittently discharged from the solids collecting area.
Abstract: For ultrasonic or other mapping systems which use PPI scan, it is desirable to convert the data to a raster scan format for, say, T.V. display. This may be achieved by conversion in a frame store. It is here proposed to time the PPI scan so that points interrogated by the effective receiving beam lie also on line of a cartesian matrix in the mapped region which correspond to the raster lines of the display thus the conversion is directly achieved.
Abstract: Photoactive, thermally coalescible resin plastisol dispersions comprising a polyvinyl chloride polymer having attached to the polymer backbone photopolymerizable or photocrosslinkable groups dispersed in a liquid plasticizer medium, and a photoinitiator which is either a separate component or a photoactive substituent present on the polymer backbone. The photoactive plastisols, in element form, can be used in an image formation process that is a positive working washout or negative toned imaging system.

Abstract: A method of forming glass bottles from a short parison is disclosed, which method includes the steps of mechanically elongating the parison in a blow mold to an extent that the exterior bottom of the elongated parison is near, but not at, the bottom of the blow mold cavity and subsequently expanding the elongated parison by vacuum on its exterior and/or by air pressure on its interior, and finally removing the blown bottle from the blow mold.

C. to +20.degree. C. and optionally contains a chain transfer agent, and is ofan alkyl methacrylate,a hydroxy alkyl acrylate ora hydroxy alkyl methacrylate, and optionally, an alkylacrylate or styrene(B) an alkylated melamine formaldehyde cross-linking agent;the composition is particularly useful as an exterior finish for automobiles, trucks, airplanes and can be used as an appliance finish and for coil coatings.
Abstract: A load carrying vehicle such as a truck trailer or a railroad car has a generally flat, horizontal loading surface which is supported by an underframe which in turn is mounted to and carried by wheel assemblies, kingpin-saddle plate arrangement and the like. The underframe extends over the full length and width of the load carrying vehicle and each of its transverse cross-sections is of a substantially constant height while in a longitudinal direction the center portion of the underframe is of a relatively greater height than portions of the underframe adjacent the wheel assemblies. The underframe is constructed of a first corrugated plate in which the corrugations run longitudinal of the vehicle. A second corrugated plate is secured to the underside of the first mentioned plate and the plates are arranged so that the corrugation troughs of the upper plate are in longitudinal alignment with corrugation peaks of the lower plate to define a hollow core honeycomb pattern between the plates.
