Abstract: A machine which converts a strand of wire into a body of meandering shape has two carriers which rotate about parallel axes and respectively carry annuli of pins. One annulus of pins surrounds the other annulus of pins, and each pin of one annulus is adjacent to a pin of the other annulus. When the carriers rotate, neighboring pins of the two annuli move toward each other during one-half of each orbital movement about the respective axes and away from each other during the other half of each orbital movement. A looping device winds the wire alternately about the oncoming pins of the inner and outer annuli while the neighboring pins move away from each other whereby the wire is converted into a meandering body and the wire portions between successive pins are stretched to assume a predetermined shape. The meandering body is stripped off the pins while the neighboring pins move nearer to each other.
Abstract: A composition adapted for use around the stoma consisting of a homogeneous mixture of a pressure sensitive adhesive component, mineral oil, and hydrocolloid gums or cohesive strengthening agents or a mixture of hydrocolloid gums and cohesive strengthening agents. By controlling the amount of mineral oil the resulting composition can be easily shaped according to the particular need.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing plexifilament strands from an organic, synthetic substantially water-insoluble polymer having a selected melting point, by flash-extruding a dispersion of the polymer in water under specified conditions. The plexifilament strands produced are useful in preparing fabrics.
Abstract: A method is provided for inhibiting growth of mycoplasmas by treatment with chlorhydroxyquinoline. Compositions containing chlorhydroxyquinoline for use in the above method are also provided.
Abstract: Compounds having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is alkanoyl; and one of R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is ##STR2## wherein R.sub.5 is alkyl, and the other groups are --CH.sub.2 --; have useful hypotensive activity.
Abstract: A data collection and reduction system for a shock suppressor valve test system is provided. The test system includes a flow meter for generating a DC voltage signal corresponding to the velocity of fluid flowing through the flow meter and a recorder for recording and outputting an AC voltage signal corresponding to the velocity of fluid flowing through the flow meter. The data collection and reduction system includes circuitry interconnected to the flow meter for amplifying the DC voltage signal generated by the flow meter to produce an amplified DC voltage signal. Circuitry converts the amplified DC voltage signal to an AC voltage signal for application to the recorder for recordation of the velocity of the fluid flowing through the flow meter. Circuitry is further provided and interconnected to the recorder for amplifying the AC voltage signal output by the recorder.
Abstract: Compounds having the formula ##STR1## and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein R.sub.1 is alkoxycarbonyl, amido or substituted amido; R.sub.2 is acyl or sulfonyl; R.sub.3 is alkylamino, dialkylamino or a nitrogen containing heterocyclic group; A.sub.1 is an alkylene group having 2 to 5 carbon atoms; and n is 1, 2 or 3; have antiinflammatory activity.
Abstract: To facilitate the supervision of long-distance telephone traffic over an extended area, output signals from call monitors associated with a number of trunk lines are fed to respective detectors working into a common preprocessor in which certain parameters of toll calls carried by each of these trunk lines, such as number and length of engagements, number and length of conversations and number of metering pulses, are registered in real time with the aid of respective counters for subsequent transfer to a final processor. The contents of each counter are read out to a buffer memory, within the preprocessor, upon the termination of the respective call or at any time in response to an external command. The preprocessor may be duplicated in order to minimize the effect of malfunctions, with inhibition of the loading and unloading of the counters of either unit until a confirmation signal is received from the other unit or a certain number of operating cycles have elapsed.

Abstract: New substituted acyl derivatives of amino acids which have the general formula ##STR1## are useful as angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors.
Abstract: An awning assembly including an awning, a pair of main support arms, and a pair of rafter arms is collapsible from an extended position to a stored position. In the stored position the awning assembly is enclosed in a box which is mounted to a wall. In the extended position the rafter arms extend from the box and the main support arms extend from the wall to support the awning. The box can be formed in four lightweight interlocking extrusions. A bracket braces the interlocking extrusions, supports the awning in the stored position, and elevates the rafter arms within the box. A foot is pivotal on each of the main support arms to permit attachment of the main support arm to the wall or ground.
Abstract: An improvement in a process for preparing a laminate consisting of a fluorocarbon copolymer sheet of 5 or more mill thickness and a fabric is disclosed. The improvement is using a thin sheet of a fluorocarbon copolymer having a specific melt viscosity low enough to enable the copolymer to wet and penetrate the fabric at fabrication temperatures as an interlayer between the fabric and thick fluorocarbon copolymer sheet and then integrally bonding the laminate by means of heat and pressure. The use of the interlayer increases the level of adhesion between the thick sheet and the fabric.
Abstract: A safety bracket for securing a ladder in place against a building structure, the bracket having two extending arm members interconnected in crossing relation intermediate the respective ends thereof with each arm member being slidable with respect to the other. Each arm member includes an intermediate portion and two end portions pivotally joined to the intermediate portion, the two end portions of each arm member including, respectively, a hook shaped portion which may be hooked around an upright member of a ladder and an eyelet for receiving therethrough a projecting member secured to the building structure.
Abstract: Non-rancid absorption ointment bases are provided which have a high capacity for water absorbability and are capable of withstanding elevated temperatures and are formed of gelled mineral oil and an ester of non-rancid isostearic acid such as sorbitan triisostearate, sorbitan sesqui-isostearate, or triglyceryl diisostearate, or an ether of non-rancid isostearyl alcohol such as polyethylene glycol diisostearate.Water-in-oil non-rancid creams resulting from the incorporating of water or medicinal solutions into the above bases are also provided and are capable of withstanding elevated temperatures. The above ointments and creams may be employed as carriers for medicaments such as antibiotics, anti-bacterial agents, antihistamines, anti-fungal agents and the like.
Abstract: The invention contemplates a key retainer with a key-retaining bail extending beyond one end of a case, for selective retention of one or more keys. The combination involves the bail formed as an integral hook-like part of pivoted body structure within the case. Pivotal action is limited, and deliberate manual actuation of the body structure against a preloading spring is necessary to displace the free end of the hook from (a) a first normally retained position in which the hook is effectively closed by its relation to the case, to (b) a second and temporary position in which the free end of the hook is sufficiently upwardly offset from the case to permit selective key insertion in and/or removal from the bail.
