  • Patent number: 7910175
Abstract: A coating of an encapsulated electrophoretic medium is formed on a substrate (106) by dispersing in a fluid (104) a plurality of electrophoretic capsules (102), contacting at least a portion of a substrate (106) with the fluid (104); and applying a potential difference between at least a part of the portion of the substrate (106) contacting the fluid (104) and a counter-electrode (110) in electrical contact with the fluid (104), thereby causing capsules (102) to be deposited upon at least part of the portion of the substrate (106) contacting the fluid (102). Patterned coatings of capsules containing different colors may be deposited in registration with electrodes using multiple capsule deposition steps. Alternatively, patterned coatings of capsules may be formed by applying a fluid form of an electrophoretic medium to a substrate, and applying a temporally varying voltage between an electrode and the substrate. The process may be repeated to allow for deposition of full color displays.

  • Patent number: 7911615
Abstract: An apparatus for inspection of fluids having a fluid analysis cell with a cavity therein enclosed by two light transmitting windows and having a spacer member fixedly positioned therebetween which provides a fluid analysis chamber of fixed pathlength where fluid flows by the windows and preferably wherein the flow laminar and at a uniform shear to provide accurate color measurements. Light transmitting and receiving probes are positioned adjacent to the viewing windows and wherein the faces of each probe are contiguous and flush with the viewing windows but are separated from the flow by the viewing windows, so that transmission measurements can be taken orthogonal to the direction of flow. The apparatus is particularly useful in the manufacture of dispersions and tints used in the manufacture of paints, so that the color of material being made can be accurately matched to a standard color in the wet state with confidence that the color will match in the dry state.

  • Patent number: 7911134
Abstract: There is provided a new process for forming a light-emitting diode device having first, second, and third subpixel areas. In the process a hole injection layer is applied over an anode layer. The hole injection material has a conductive polymer and a fluorinated acid polymer. A hole transport layer is applied over the hole injection layer. A first electroluminescent material which is either green or blue, is applied to the first subpixel areas. A second electroluminescent material which is either blue or green, is applied to the second subpixel areas. A red electroluminescent material is applied overall, followed by deposition of a cathode. The second electroluminescent material emits a color different from that of the first electroluminescent material.

  • Patent number: 7911648
Abstract: A printer operates under a first set of conditions to create a first set of M of samples and under a target set of conditions to create a second set of K samples. Each sample is produced using the same colorant(s). The actual spectral reflectance for each sample is measured. The actual reflectances for corresponding samples in the first and second sets are used to create a cross-validated, partial-least-squares transform that maps a reflectance from a sample produced under the first set of conditions to a reflectance from a sample produced under the target set of conditions. The transform and reflectances produce a set of predicted reflectances, each representing a sample producible under the target set of conditions using one colorant. The predicted reflectances and the colorant(s) are used to generate a table predicting a color value when the printer operates under the target set of conditions.
