Abstract: A dielectrophoretic display has a substrate having walls defining a cavity, the cavity having a viewing surface and a side wall inclined to the viewing surface. A fluid is contained within the cavity; and a plurality of particles are present in the fluid. There is applied to the substrate an electric field effective to cause dielectrophoretic movement of the particles so that the particles occupy only a minor proportion of the viewing surface.

Abstract: A method for monitoring fabrication processes of finely structured surfaces in a semiconductor fabrication includes the steps of providing reference signatures of finely structured surfaces, measuring at least one signature of a test specimen surface, comparing the measured signature with the reference signatures, and classifying the test specimen surface by using the comparison results, wherein the measurement of the reference signatures is carried out by measuring the local distribution and/or intensity distribution of diffraction images on production prototypes having a specified quality. The classification is preferably carried out here with a neural network having a learning capability and/or a fuzzy logic. Furthermore, a device for carrying out the method is provided.

Abstract: This invention relates to an isolated nucleic acid fragment encoding a thioredoxin protein. The invention also relates to the construction of a chimeric gene encoding all or a portion of the thioredoxin protein, in sense or antisense orientation, wherein expression of the chimeric gene results in production of altered levels of the thioredoxin protein in a transformed host cell.
Abstract: An organic electronic device comprising (a) a conductive lead, (b) an organic layer, (c) a first conductive member overlying the organic layer, wherein a side of the first conductive member closest to the conductive lead and a side of the organic layer closest to the conductive lead are substantially coterminous with each other and from a plan view, the conductive lead and the first conductive member are spaced apart from each other, and (d) a second conductive member that electrically connects the first conductive member to the conductive lead.
Abstract: An LED lamp has: an LED with a pair of terminals; a holder to which the LED is attached, the holder being of insulating material; and a radiation unit that has two metallic radiation plates that are attached to the holder while surrounding the holder and being insulated from each other. Each of the radiation plates has a contact portion that contacts the pair of terminals of the LED being attached to the holder and a power receiving terminals for power supplied to the LED.
Abstract: A pipe or liner for use in the oil and gas industry that comprises a melt-mixed bend of polyamide and grafted fluoropolymer having polar functionality where the grafted fluoropolymer having polar functionality exists as a discontinuous phase that is dispersed in a polyamide matrix. The pipe or liner has enhanced resistance to the permeation of hydrocarbons relative to polyethylene. A further embodiment is fuel lines that comprise a melt-mixed bland of polyamide and a grafted fluoropolymer having polar functionality.
Abstract: Disclosed is a burning/melting system for treatment infectious trash, which includes a trash feeding pipe to which the infectious trash is supplied; burners for burning the infectious trash supplied through the trash feeding pipe by using Brown's gas, when the amount of the infectious trash reaches a predetermined level; a melter for melting burned residues and glasses discharged from the burners thereto by using the Brown's gas; a post-combustion chamber for combusting toxic fumes produced from the burners and the melter by using the Brown's gas; a gas analyzing line for analyzing the toxic fumes having been combusted in the post-combustion chamber and if the amount of toxic elements contained in the combusted fumes exceeds a standard level, for feeding the combusted fumes back into the burners; and a gas outlet for discharging the combusted fumes to the outside if the amount of toxic elements contained therein is less than the standard level.
Abstract: A telemedicine system for monitoring chronic conditions such as asthma or diabetes includes an electronic measurement device such as an electronic peak expiratory flow meter or an electronic blood glucose meter, connected to a GPRS cellular telephone. The cellular telephone automatically receives, formats and transmits the data on acquisition by the medical device to a remote server. The server may acknowledge the data and make the data available to a clinician. The server may also analyse the data and provide automatic alerts to the patient and/or clinician in the event of the data causing concern. The formatting and transmission of the data from the telephone to the server occurs in real time as the measurements are taken and is invisible to the patient.

Abstract: A drawer locking structure including a cabinet body, a drawer disposed inside the cabinet body and a lock device. The lock device includes a shift body, a stopper body and a resilient body. The shift body has a driving section and a force application section. The shift body is pivotally connected with the front board of the drawer. The stopper body is disposed on outer side of the drawer. The resilient body includes a first connecting section and an engaging section. Via the first connecting section, the resilient body is disposed on inner side of the cabinet body corresponding to the stopper body. When the drawer is positioned in the cabinet body, the engaging section is engaged with the stopper body, whereby the drawer is prevented from slipping outward due to inclination or movement of the cabinet body. When it is desired to draw out the drawer, a pulling force can be applied to the force application section. At this time, the driving section is driven to press down and deform the resilient body.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a D/A converter includes a D/A module and a first differential amplifier. The D/A module converts a digital signal to a first analog signal. The first differential amplifier amplifies the first analog signal from the D/A module to a second analog signal. In another embodiment, an electronic device includes D/A converters and sample-and-hold circuits coupled the D/A converters. The D/A converters may or may not include the D/A modules and differential amplifiers. In still another embodiment, an electronic device includes a first electronic component and a first control signal regulator coupled to the first electronic component. A method of using the electronic device includes determining a first maximum setting for the control signal regulator in order to achieve a first radiation intensity from the first electronic component during a first time period and determining a second maximum setting during a second time period.
Abstract: A retarded electric motor designed as a series motor or an asynchronous motor having a squirrel cage rotor. A valve is provided for switching between motor operation and braking operation. During motor operation the motor is operated in a known configuration as series motor or as asynchronous motor. If configured as a series motor, the valve (S1, S2, S3) allows to bypass the armature and to operate the motor as an externally excited direct current generator when switching into braking operation. If configured as an asynchronous motor, a switch is utilized to disconnect at least two field windings from mains. A valve is utilized to excite the motor externally from mains with a pulsating direct current during braking.
