Abstract: A system for monitoring and/or affecting parameters of a patient's body and more particularly to such a system comprised of a system control unit (SCU) and one or more other devices, preferably battery-powered, implanted in the patient's body, i.e., within the envelope defined by the patient's skin. Each such implanted device is configured to be monitored and/or controlled by the SCU via a wireless communication channel. In accordance with the invention, the SCU comprises a programmable unit capable of (1) transmitting commands to at least some of a plurality of implanted devices and (2) receiving data signal from at least some of those implanted devices. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, the system operates in closed loop fashion whereby the commands transmitted by the SCU are dependent, in part, on the content of the data signals received by the SCU.

Abstract: The invention relates to a thermoplastic composition comprising at least a copolymer of ethylene and an ?,?-unsaturated C3-C8 carboxylic acid, from about 10 to 99.9% neutralized with Lithium, and at least from about 0.01 wt % to about 2 wt % of a migrating antistatic agent. The invention also relates to films, sheet and molded articles comprising the above composition. The composition, film, sheet or molded article of the invention show good antistatic properties and preferably have a surface resistivity equal or less than 10E11. The composition, film, sheet or molded article of the invention can in particular be used as a protective transparent coating or layer on abrasion and scratch-exposed objects.
Abstract: The present invention provides compositions that are useful for compatabilizing a conventional, non-polar, compression refrigeration lubricant and a hydrofluorocarbon and/or hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerant in a compression refrigeration apparatus. Additionally, these composition promote efficeint return of lubricant from the non-compressor zones to the compressor zones of the aforesaid refrigeration apparatus.
Abstract: The present invention relates to charge transport compositions. The invention further relates to electronic devices in which there is at least one active layer comprising such charge transport compositions.
Abstract: A method and system of streaming a page of data are described. In one embodiment, an object corresponding to the page of data is allocated. The object is executed. If the object is a proxy, then the proxy is executed. If the object is a component, then the component is executed. If the object is a container, then the container is executed.
Abstract: Compounds comprising phosphorus-containing metal complexes can be used in electroluminescent devices and have an emission maximum closer to the blue region of the visible light spectrum. The complexes can be used within an organic active layer in electronic devices, such as displays, detectors, voltaic cells, solid-state lighting, illumination devices or the like. The complexes may also be used as catalysts or as indicators in other applications. The new compounds can be used without the need of a host material. In non-limiting embodiments, Pt or Ir may be used for the metal atom within the complex, one ligand may include a phosphorus-containing bidentate ligand, and another ligand may include a monoanionic bidentate ligand. The phosphorus-containing bidentate ligand may include a benzyl group, a phenoxy group, a phenylamino group, or the like.

Abstract: This invention provides a method of reducing the concentration of at least one electrically charged compound present in aqueous feedstock (5), such as water and waste water. The feedstock to be treated is continuously supplied to one surface of a selectively permeable, electrically charged membrane (2) contained within a module (1). Simultaneously an aqueous reaction medium, containing an active microbial culture, contacts with the opposite face of the membrane (2). The microbial culture, fed with selected nutrients and salts, is capable to convert at least one electrically charged compound, after it permeates through the wall of the membrane (2) to by-products. The membrane is substantially impermeable to electrically uncharged compounds. The ion-exchange properties of the membrane allow avoiding secondary pollution of the treated water by metabolic by-products and residual nutrients from the reaction medium.

Abstract: The technique for detecting extravasation during the injection of fluid into a patient involves the establishment of a baseline representing impedance at the zone of the injection prior to the injection starting. Extravasation is signaled when at least two characteristics appear. First is that the impedance varies from the baseline more than a predetermined amount in more than a predetermined number of discreet time slots called epochs herein. Second is that, the rate of change of the impedance, which is called the slope herein, is consistently greater than a predetermined amount.
