Abstract: A device for generating a torsion field having a salt solution disposed in a first chamber, a torsion field generator for producing a right torsion field, and a magnetic element. The magnetic element rotates in response to a change in magnetic polarity. The torsion field generator is operably associated with the magnetic element. As a result, the torsion field generator is oriented in a predetermined association with respect to the earth's magnetic field. The first chamber and the torsion field generator are disposed such that a portion of the right torsion field propagates through the salt solution.

Abstract: A fluid injector made of pressure rated components that attach to a fluid flow line so that flow is transferred from the flow line, into the injection unit and back to the fluid flow line. The inlet flow is used to pressurize the storage tank and provide a solution to mix with injection solutions in the tank to provide an accurate preset or adjustable injection rate into the fluid flow line. Vent/proportioner ports provide back flow protection, prevent fluid from siphoning from the storage tank, provide an internal air release port and set injection ratios. A mixing control valve adjusts the injection ratios by mixing outgoing injection solutions with incoming fluid from the fluid flow line. Flexible bladders isolate one or more injection solutions within one storage container which are injected simultaneously at independent injection rates.
Abstract: An optical grating fabrication apparatus having a phase mask for dividing an incident light beam into a plurality of diffracted beams and a focusing arrangement for receiving light from the phase mask and converging at least two non-zero-order diffracted beams together so as to generate an interference region of a characteristic period between the converged beams so that a grating structure can be impressed on an optical waveguide placed in the interference region. Further, a translation stage is arranged to move the phase mask and at least a part of the focusing arrangement with respect to one another under control of a control circuit so as to alter the angle of convergence of the converged beams and thus controllably tune the characteristic period.

Abstract: Novel slidable doors and sidewalls are adapted for use with collapsible protective enclosures (e.g., frame structure associated with a collapsible tent) such as tents, awnings, and restaurant patio shielding. The slidable doors and sidewalls, in addition to being flexible, may also be foldable, and, generally, slidably engage a slide track incorporated in such an enclosure. Further, the slidable doors and sidewalls generally comprise a flexible sheet that, in some embodiments, may also define openings therethrough and further comprise windows provided by semi-rigid thermoplastic resinous sheets. The present invention is also directed to collapsible protective enclosures comprising the above slidable doors and sidewalls, and to methods for retrofitting such enclosures with the above slidable doors and sidewalls, and to kits for accomplishing the same.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a coating for cables which is capable of protecting the cable against accidental impacts. By inserting into the structure of a power transmissioncable a suitable coating of expanded polymer material of adequate thickness, preferably in contact with the sheath of outer polymer coating, it is possible to obtain a cable which has a high impact strength. The Applicant has moreover observed that an expanded polymer material used as a coating for cables makes it possible to obtain a higher impact strength for this cable than using a similar coating based on the same polymer which is not expanded. A cable with a coating of this type has various advantages over a conventional cable with metal armor, such as, for example, easier processing, a reduction in the weight and dimensions of the finished cable and a lower environmental impact as regards recycling of the cable once its working cycle is over.

Abstract: IMPROVEMENTS MADE UP FOR TOOLS USED IN CRIMPING MACHINES, wherein the said tools bring a technical advance while compared to their basic operations, that is, for instance, the tool “guillotine and crimping” has multiplied its lifetime by six, i.e., sextupled the crimping applications of this tool; the “profile and crimping matrix support”, which used to be a sole piece, brings a refill-blade; the assembly “hammer bar”, which cuts, bends and prints the metal band in the crimping tools, allows for its hammer to be sharpen up to six times before its replacement, expanding its lifetime by six times, lowering the relative cost. The “anvil” tool, which helps the bending of the metal band, used to be in a sole milled piece, now are composed by two pieces fastened by themselves, wherein the cutting blade is twofold, lowering the cost and duplicating the tool lifetime.
Abstract: Polyethylene-based adhesive compositions which contain as little as 5 weight percent, and up to 35 weight percent of an acid-grafted metallocene polyethylene have superior peel strength to comparable compositions containing an acid grafted non-metallocene polyethylene. Compositions where the acid-grafted metallocene polyethylene component is based on a metallocene polyethylene having a melt-flow ratio of less than 6.53 and an Mw/Mn of greater than the melt flow ratio less 4.63 are as good adhesive compositions as those based on metallocene resins falling outside these parameters.
Abstract: A drive system for driving the workpiece-retaining carriage of a food slicing machine, including a drive pulley rotatably driven by a servomotor in alternating, opposite directions. Opposite ends of a drive belt extend around the drive pulley through a gap between two idle pulleys. The drive belt seats against the idle pulleys and the opposite ends extend in opposite directions on the opposite side of the gap. The upper drive belt end extends over the curved surface of a support panel to gripping engagement of a tensioning pulley and clamp. The lower drive belt end extends over the curved surface of the support panel to gripping engagement of a second tensioning pulley and clamp. The support panel is mounted on a drive member that is, at its opposite end, rotatably mounted to a pivot, and rigidly mounted to the workpiece-retaining carriage.

Abstract: A method for chemically etching of a foam glass layer to provide at least one cavity pattern in the foam glass layer. The method utilizes a substrate with at least one major surface suitable for receiving a glass layer. At least one layer of a glass paste composition in then applied onto the major surface of the substrate. The substrate and glass paste composition are then heated to a temperature sufficient enough to obtain a foam glass layer bonded to the major surface of the substrate. At least a portion of the foam glass layer is chemically etched to obtain at least one cavity pattern in the foam glass layer. The chemical etching of the foam glass layer results in an anisotropic etching rate.
