Abstract: Described are compositions and methods for inhibiting polymerization of a monomer (e.g., styrene) composition, which use an N—O polymerization inhibitor, a quinone methide polymerization retarder, and an amine stabilizer having a primary and/or secondary amine group. In a mixture, the amine-based stabilizer can prevent antagonistic effects and can provide greater antipolymerant activity. In turn, the mixture inhibits apparatus fouling and improves the purity of monomer streams.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods for reducing fouling caused by process water present within a water recycling loop of a pyrolysis plant. Fouling is caused by phase separation and accumulation of materials from the process water on equipment surfaces. The method includes applying a total of about 5 ppm to 500 ppm total of a first polymerization inhibitor and second polymerization inhibitor to the process water to form a treated process water, wherein the first polymerization inhibitor has a pygas-water partition coefficient of about 0.0001 to 9 and the second polymerization inhibitor has a pygas-water partition coefficient of about 1000 to 50,000.

Abstract: Nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs) have been used as surfactants in a wide variety of household products and industrial applications. Despite their effectiveness as surfactants, NPEs can accumulate in the environment and adversely affect aquatic organisms. The dispersants of the present disclosure can be used to disperse oil and/or microbes while avoiding the adverse effects of NPEs. Oil and microbial fouling is of particular concern in refinery cooling towers where the water may be contaminated with oil and microbial growth can cause cooling inefficiencies among other problems. The dispersant may include an oil dispersant comprising a C6-C20 alcohol ethoxylate, a bio-dispersant comprising a copolymer of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, and 2-butoxyethanol. The oil dispersant, the bio-dispersant, and the 2-butoxyethanol form a dispersant solution, and the solution does not include a nonylphenol ethoxylate.

Abstract: Hard surface rinse aid compositions incorporating surfactant systems compatible with plastics and plastics containing metals, such as aluminum, are disclosed. The hard surface rinse aid compositions are particularly well suited for use in high concentrations at low temperatures without causing foaming and/or debris or film on the treated surface. In particular, the plastic and aluminum-compatible hard surface rinse aid compositions containing a surfactant system combining nonionic alcohol alkoxylates and a polymer surfactant can be used in treating hard surfaces requiring good sheeting, wetting and drying properties. The methods are particularly well suited for rinsing automotive parts, including those needing painting.
