Abstract: Water-in-oil lattices of water soluble polymers and methods of using the same are presented. The lattices are made, used, and stored having about 15 wt % to 70 wt % polymer solids and further include one or more alkyl ricinoleates. We have found that C1-C6 alkyl ricinoleates added to such lattices facilitate rapid and complete dilution to less than or equal to 1 wt % polymer solids in a continuous water phase. In particular under conditions wherein the water source used to invert the latex is provided at low temperature (?10° C. to 10° C.), or includes a high level of total dissolved solids, or is both low temperature and high total dissolved solids.

Abstract: Described herein are compositions and methods for preferentially separating mercury from a metal product where both are present in an ore leachate. The separation is accomplished by adding a precipitating agent and a coagulant to an ore leachate followed by separating a mercury-laden precipitate therefrom to collect the treated leachate. The treated leachate includes about 0 to 50% by weight of the mercury and about 90% to 100% by weight of the metal product present in the ore leachate. In embodiments, the method further includes adding a flocculant to the ore leachate prior to the separating of the mercury-laden precipitate.

Abstract: Methods and systems for temperature-controlled, on-site generation of peracids, namely peroxycarboxylic acids and peroxycarboxylic acid forming compositions are disclosed. In particular, methods for using an adjustable biocide formulator or generator system overcome the limitations of temperature on the kinetics of the peracid generation and/or peracid decomposition inside an adjustable biocide formulator or generator system. The methods include the controlling of the temperature of at least one raw starting material, namely water, to improve upon methods of on-site generation of peracids. The methods allow for the generation of user-selected chemistry without regard to the ambient temperatures of the raw starting materials and/or the biocide formulator or generator system.

Abstract: A method of optimizing system parameters in a crude unit to reduce corrosion and corrosion byproduct deposition in the crude unit is disclosed and claimed. The method includes measuring or predicting properties associated with the system parameters and using an automated controller to analyze the properties to cause adjustments in the chemical program to optimize the system parameters. Adjusting the system parameters effectively controls corrosion in the crude unit by reducing the corrosiveness of a fluid in the process stream and/or by protecting the system from a potentially corrosive substance. System parameter sensing probes are arranged at one or more locations in the process stream to allow accurate monitoring of the system parameters in the crude unit.
Abstract: The invention provides a method of efficiently determining the effectiveness of managing a chemical or industrial facility. The method involves identifying various industrial site assets and recording various specs of those assets over time. The various assets are grouped according to some hierarchy such as location, problem to be solved, or just asset type. The specs are compared to acceptable ranges and are scored positively or negatively. The system allows a user to determine trends by asset type, spec type, or by position within the hierarchy. This system allows both small scale and large-scale perspective, and can be used for both reactive and preemptive decision making.
