  • Patent number: 11654609
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to how to engineer reversible elasticity in thin films and/or layers and/or substrates, using a repeated Y-shaped motif, which is cut out through the film and/or layer and/or substrate. As an example, using a 75 ?m thick polyimide (PI) foil, macroscopic dog-bone shaped structures with a range of geometrical parameters of the Y shape have been prepared according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The tensile strain response of the film at its point of fracture was then recorded. The structures were also confirmed using finite element modeling. Upon stretching, the PI ligaments locally deflect out of plane, allowing the foil to macroscopically stretch.

  • Publication number: 20230114145
Abstract: A composite multi-layer textile, comprising at least one nanofibre layer with nanofibres with diameters below 100 nm and one support layer with microfibres with diameters below three microns, wherein the layers were produced by electrospinning. The multi-layer textile shows a general transmittance at #=550 nm greater than 60%, which shows improved properties concerning transparency, breathability and robustness. This is achieved in that the at least one nanofibre layer and the support layer are fused, forming solid domains in the multi-layer textile, at closed areas of a pattern used in the production process, wherein the solid domains are separated from each other or connected, showing defined shapes, with regular or irregular spatial distribution, while the fibre morphology of nanofibres of the nanofibre layer and microfibres of support layer is preserved on top of the open areas beside the solid domains, attaining a general transmittance greater than that given by the sum of the individual layers.

  • Patent number: 11614769
Abstract: Consensus protocols for asynchronous networks are usually complex and inefficient, leading practical systems to rely on synchronous protocols. The invention proposes an approach to simplify asynchronous consensus by building it atop a novel threshold logical clock abstraction, allowing the consensus protocol to operate in “virtual synchrony.” Leveraging accountable state machine techniques to detect and suppress Byzantine nodes, and verifiable secret sharing for random leader election, we obtain simple and efficient protocols for asynchronous Byzantine consensus.
