Patent number: 5966214Abstract: A laser gauge for measuring the thickness of glass panes and the spacing between glass panes in a sealed insulated window. A laser beam is directed at a predetermined angle to a first glass surface. Reflections from the glass surfaces pass through a gauge housing, through a slot in an adjustable slide, and impinge on a matted finished surface of thin scale. The housing and the slide are formed from materials having a predetermined coefficient of friction relative to each other to provide smooth movement to said slide in said housing. The scale is sufficiently thin to avoid false readings from internal reflections within the scale. The scale is adjustable on the slide to align the first reflection with a reference indicia. For each glass pane and for each pane spacing, the slide is adjusted so that a first surface reflection aligns with the reference indicia and a second surface reflection is compared with indicia on the scale to determine the thickness of the glass pane or the glass pane spacing.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1998Date of Patent: October 12, 1999Assignee: Electronic Design To Market, Inc.Inventors: Mark A. Patent number: 4692709Abstract: In a parallel input signal processor, parallel input signals are processed using logic (selective weight) averaging. A multiple number of signal detectors are placed relatively close together at the location at which signal detection is desired. The polarity of each of the input signals, with respect to a threshold value, is determined. If at least a predetermined number of the input signals have the same polarity with respect to the threshold value, the signals having the same polarities are amplified, combined, and averaged to form an output signal. Those signals not having identical polarities with the least predetermined number of signals are not included in the output signal. In the event that the number of input signals in coincidence with respect to the threshold value are not at least this predetermined number, no output signal is produced. The predetermined number is at least a majority of the input signals.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1985Date of Patent: September 8, 1987Assignee: Electronic Design & Research, Inc.Inventor: Vladimir A. Patent number: 4692710Abstract: The pulse-width discrimination system receives an input pulse whose leading edge enables an oscillator. The oscillator outputs frequency pulses to a comparison counter which counts the frequency pulses and compares them to a predetermined value, representing a minimum pulse width in which the user is interested. If the predetermined value is reached, the comparison counter triggers a tolerance window network which outputs a pulse, whose width represents the tolerance window, to one input of a coincidence output network. The input pulse is also received by a trailing-edge detector, which outputs a pulse to another input of the coincidence output network upon detection of the input pulse's trailing edge. If the input pulse's trailing edge coincides with the tolerance window, the coincidence output network will output an indication signal. Regardless of coincidence, the trailing edge of the input pulse disenables the oscillator, and the comparison counter is reset by the trailing-edge detector's output pulse.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1985Date of Patent: September 8, 1987Assignee: Electronic Design & Research, Inc.Inventor: Vladimir A. Patent number: 4549127Abstract: A battery charger comprises a power supply for supplying current pulses to a battery to be charged. A microprocessor receives from an analog-to-digital converter codes representing the voltage between the battery terminals with the battery off-load between charging pulses and monitors the ratio of the voltage difference (V.sub.3 -V.sub.5) during a first period following a charging pulse to the voltage difference (V.sub.10 -V.sub.12) over a second period following the charging pulse, with the second period ending after the beginning of the first period. The value of this ratio reaches a peak value and then declines, and the microprocessor determines when the value of the ratio falls below a peak value thereof by a predetermined amount to terminate fast charging of the battery, after which the battery may be removed or may remain on a trickle charge. An accurate, reliable, and consistent determination of completion of charging of sealed nickel-cadmium batteries is thus provided.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1984Date of Patent: October 22, 1985Assignee: Electronic Designs (I.W.)
