Abstract: Disclosed is a media access control apparatus and method in a wireless local area network (LAN) system, which improves the performance of a wireless network by obtaining a transmission opportunity based on information on a station (STA), received from an access point (AP) in a contention-based distributed media access control system such as an IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN system. In the media access control apparatus and method, a station determines a contention window (CW) value based on information on other stations accessing a same access point and information on the idle state of a channel, so that an inefficient CW value is be set in a Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) used in the IEEE 802.11. Accordingly, it is possible to increase the processing speed of the station and to the efficiency of a wireless LAN network.

Abstract: A base station determines whether the base station is in an overload state on the basis of an available resource of the base station and a load state of a mobility management entity (MME), and transmits the call setup request to MME if the base station is determined to be in a non-overload state. MME determines whether MME is in the overload state on the basis of an available resource of MME and a load state of a gateway according to the call setup request transmitted from the base station, and transmits the call setup request to the gateway if MME is determined to be in the non-overload state. The gateway determines whether the gateway is in the overload state according to the call setup request transmitted from MME, and performs a call setup procedure if the gateway is determined to be in the non-overload state.

Abstract: Provided is a method of retransmitting and receiving a packet in heterogeneous network environment. A terminal and a relay base station receive a packet transmitted from a macro base station, and the relay base station informs the terminal of whether the packet is successively received or not. When the packet fails to be received, the terminal is configured to receive the erroneous packet again from at least one of the macro base station and the relay base station. The macro base station and the relay base station may be configured to retransmit the packet through joint processing JP) transmission, and the terminal may be configured to receive the JP transmission. Thus, the method allows the m optimization of a HARQ process and scheduling scheme to efficiently utilize a relay and radio resources, thereby leading to a maximum capacity and quality of wireless network.
