    Abstract: A subcarrier allocating apparatus allocating data to be transmitted to a plurality of orthogonal subcarriers in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system is provided. The apparatus includes a logical index generator generating a logical index for allocating a data subcarrier to a physical index, the logical index being included with only data subcarriers and the physical index indicating a location of a substantial subcarrier within a symbol, an intermediate index converter converting the logical index into an intermediate index by performing a given operation on the generated logical index and a pilot location constant, and a physical index converter converting the intermediate index into a physical index based on the number of data subcarriers on the left and right sides of a null subcarrier for insertion of a guard interval formed by the null subcarrier.

    Abstract: Provided are a detector for a multi-level modulated signal and a detection method using the same, and an iterative receiver for a multi-level modulated signal and an iteratively receiving method using the same. The detector includes: a channel estimator estimating a channel response of each of a plurality of bits included in at least one received signal based on multi-level modulation; a hard decision unit, for each bit, selecting at least one of a plurality of bits remaining by excluding the bit and performing a hard decision based on a pre-probability of the selected bit; and a reliability calculator calculating reliability of each of all the bits in the received signal based on the received signal from which the hard-decided bit component is cancelled and the estimated channel response. Accordingly, the computation amount according to detection can be reduced without the degradation of performance.

    Abstract: Provided is a method and apparatus for compressing a text and an image. When compressing the text and image, it is possible to group valid lines with data into each line having a common element, and compress and encode the data of the valid lines. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce a data loss that may occur in a tactical communication environment with a poor channel state due to a bit sleep or a burst error. In the case of the text, it is possible to perform lossless compression on only a valid line with data and thereby improve compression efficiency. In the case of the image, it is possible to perform loss compression on valid lines, and then restore the partially damaged data using an ECC even when data is partially damaged. Accordingly, it is possible to improve compression efficiency and the entire data transmission success rate.
