  • Patent number: 5563500
Abstract: The present invention concerns a voltage regulator wherein the series pass transistor and an amplification transistor are of complementary types. Supply current flows from the DC supply source through the emitter-collector path of the series pass transistor to the load. The amount of this current is controlled by a negative feedback control signal coupled from the regulated output voltage to the base electrode of the amplification transistor, which in turn drives the base of the series pass transistor. The emitter electrode of the amplification transistor is coupled to a voltage which is less than the regulated DC output voltage so that drive requirements for the pair of transistors is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5563915
Abstract: A television signal receiving system includes a deinterleaving network (18) containing first and second deinterleaving functions associated with respective memory address controllers (20, 25). One or the other of the deinterleaving functions is selected for use by a multiplexer (30) in response to a Deinterleaver Select control signal. • Patent number: 5563600
Abstract: A remote-controlled apparatus improves the reliability of a vehicle security system. Each time the transmitting unit transmits data, a first code updating section changes a variable code storage in a memory in the transmitting unit by predetermined shift processing to form a new variable code, and replaces the preceding variable code with the new variable code. An ID code setting section sets an ID code formed of the variable code and a fixed code. Predetermined data including the ID code and command signals is transmitted. When the receiving unit receives the predetermined data, the fixed code and the variable code in the received ID code are compared with a fixed code and a variable code stored in the receiving unit.

  • Patent number: 5563838
Abstract: A voltage regulator provides current for a circuit module having an array of similar semiconductor circuit devices, such as a SIMM (single in line memory) array of semiconductor circuit devices. The semiconductor circuit devices in the array are designed to accept a range of potential that, and the potential provided by the voltage regulator are within that range. The voltage regulator circuit receives current at elevated supply potential and provides a steady output at a controlled potential to the array. This provides clean power to the memory module and permits the establishment of internal tolerances for variation in potential which are more restrictive than that afforded by an external power supply.

  • Patent number: 5563651
Abstract: A binary number is generated representative of net motion during a field interval of an interlaced video signal from which a field to field difference signal is derived having a sign bit and a group of magnitude bits. The magnitude bits are compared with a first threshold to provide a first threshold indicating signal which, with the sign bit, are applied via respective bus lines to each correlator of a group of five correlators. The correlators are addressed using variable modulo addressing to detect patterns representative of 2--2 pull down and 3-2 pull down film originated frames. Logic is provided for detecting when one and only one of the five correlators indicates film detection to verify film mode operation. Error reduction is further enhanced by comparing the field difference signal with a second threshold, higher than the first, to provide a second thresold indicating signal to each correlator via a second bus.

  • Patent number: 5564010
Abstract: A reset signal generator includes circuitry for detecting conditions indicating that a reset signal is necessary and generating a reset signal in response. Such conditions may include low power supply voltage (i.e., "brown out") or the presence of transient signal spikes. Circuitry is provided for extending the duration of the reset signal after power is initially applied, because at this time associated digital circuitry may not be fully powered-up, and may require a longer than normal reset pulse. In contrast, a reset pulse of a normal duration is generated when the digital circuitry is fully powered-up and a transient signal spike is detected. Isolating circuitry is coupled between the detecting circuit and the extending circuit to isolate the detecting circuit from the extending circuit when there is no power-on condition, (i.e. when normal operating voltage is present) in order to prevent the duration of the reset pulse from being extended.

  • Patent number: 5563576
Abstract: A vehicle security siren that includes a rechargeable back-up battery and an electronic circuit that minimizes current drain from the vehicle's battery by controlling the rate at which the siren's back-up battery is charged by the vehicle's battery. The circuit charges the siren's battery at a relatively high rate when the vehicle engine is running or the ignition is on, and by a low charging rate at other times. This multi-level charging rate preserves the vehicle's battery charge particularly if the vehicle is not driven for any extended time period. The circuit includes a back-up battery condition detector that issues a warning signal in the event of failure of the back-up battery. The circuit also limits the maximum siren duration in the event that either the vehicle's battery or the security system is disconnected from the siren.

  • Patent number: 5562435
Abstract: A structure for preventing axial leakage in a scroll compressor includes a fixed scroll, a closer mounted on the fixed scroll, a discharge chamber formed on the closer, a discharge port formed at the center of the fixed scroll, and a variable back pressure formed between the closer and the fixed scroll. The variable back pressure chamber is formed penetrating to the discharge chamber by a polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) or a piston. By the polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) having uniform expansion coefficient and the piston, the variable back pressure chamber is closed in case of high discharge pressure and opened in case of low pressure. A downward sealing force is acting on small area of a upper surface of the fixed scroll in case of high discharge pressure and broad area in case of low pressure.

  • Patent number: 5561433
Abstract: A satellite receiver for digitally encoded television signals includes apparatus for generating a signal indicating the alignment of the receiving antenna which is responsive to the number of errors contained in the digitally encoded television signals. The antenna alignment signal has the form of an audio signal which is coupled to sound reproducing device associated with the satellite receiver. The audio signal corresponds to a continuous tone when the number of errors is less than a predetermined threshold indicating that error correction is possible. The elevation of the antenna is set according with the location of the receiving site. Thereafter, the azimuth of the antenna is coarsely aligned by first rotating the antenna in small increments so locate a region in which the continuous tone is produced. During this coarse alignment procedure, the tuner of the satellite receiver attempts to locate a tuning frequency at which and demodulation and error correction is possible.

  • Patent number: 5561477
Abstract: In a video signal processor including a motion compensated predictive coding data compression system, three adjacent image frames (1, 2, 3) are analyzed to detect a luminance gradient such as is typically associated with image fading. The frames are similarly divided into several segments (A . . . L). The sum of the absolute pixel value differences between corresponding segments from adjacent frames is obtained for each of two pairs adjacent frame segments (DIFF.sub.1-2 ; DIFF.sub.2-3). The ratio of the two frame differences (S) is obtained for each segment. Fading is indicated if the ratio remains substantially constant for all or a predetermined number of regions. If fading is detected, any motion vectors generated by the motion coder are assigned a zero value and are not coded.

  • Patent number: 5559892
Abstract: A buffer circuit, such as for use with a low voltage hearing aid, is disclosed. The hearing aid comprises a microphone, a receiver and an amplifier. The amplifier is disposed between the microphone and the receiver. The buffer circuit has a MOS device including a well terminal and a gate terminal equipotentially coupled together to reduce the effective threshold voltage of the MOS device, thereby reducing the gate-to-source voltage of the MOS device. This permits a greater linear output signal range for the amplifier.

  • Patent number: 5559860
Abstract: An apparatus for selectively answering an incoming call transmitted from a cellular base station to a mobile station based upon the telephone number of a calling party. An ID processor is programmed by a user of the mobile station to store selected telephone numbers corresponding to calling party telephone numbers, which serve to uniquely identify the calling parties. The processor is also programmed by the user to select predetermined response categories and to assign desired ones of those response categories to each of the stored calling parties' telephone numbers. When an incoming call is received at the mobile station, the calling party's telephone number is compared with the stored telephone numbers, previously programmed by the user, to detect an incoming call from a particular calling party. Depending upon the response category assigned to incoming calls from that particular calling party, the selected response is initiated.
