Abstract: A medical system includes a medical device and a controller. The medical device is controlled according to a control protocol. The controller is configured to receive a measured data set containing a current value at a current time and past values at past times of a physiologic signal measured on a recipient, calculate a difference signal at the current time based on the measured data set, and predict a difference value using the difference signal and a prediction algorithm. The difference value is a difference between a predicted future value of the physiologic signal at a future time and the current value. The controller is further configured to calculate the predicted future value based on the difference value and the current value and update the control protocol according to the predicted future value.

  • Publication number: 20170216627
Abstract: An image-guided therapy delivery system includes a therapy generator configured to generate a therapy beam directed to a time-varying therapy locus within a therapy recipient, an imaging input configured to receive imaging information about a time-varying target locus within the therapy recipient, and a therapy controller. The therapy generator includes a therapy output configured to direct the therapy beam according to a therapy protocol. The therapy controller is configured to automatically generate a predicted target locus using information indicative of an earlier target locus extracted from the imaging information, a cyclic motion model, and a specified latency, and automatically generate an updated therapy protocol to align the time-varying therapy locus with the predicted target locus.

  • Publication number: 20170106208
Abstract: A computer-implemented method, a system or a non-transitory computer-readable medium of doing the same, for monitoring movement of anatomical features throughout a radiation treatment session. The method may include monitoring the movement of the anatomical features with a first modality. The method may further include obtaining positional information of the anatomical features with a second modality over a finite acquisition time. The method may also include providing an indication of a clinically relevant movement associated with the anatomical features during the finite acquisition time based on the monitored movement from the first modality.

  • Patent number: 9451928
Abstract: A diagnostic image of internal anatomical features of a patient is annotated with representations of external features, such that both can be viewed together on a visual display. Adjustments to various treatment parameters relating to the administration of radiation therapy are provided, and the displayed image is automatically updated based on the adjustments.

  • Patent number: 9248316
Abstract: Various implementations of the invention provide techniques and supporting systems that facilitate real-time or near-real-time ultrasound tracking for the purpose of calculating changes in anatomical features during a medical procedure. More specifically, anatomical features within a patient undergoing a medical procedure are tracked by obtaining temporally-distinct three dimensional ultrasound images that include the feature of interest and obtaining a targeted subset of ultrasound images focused on the feature. Based on the targeted subset of ultrasound images, a displacement of the feature is determined and image parameters used to obtain the targeted subset of ultrasound images are adjusted based on the displacement. This results in a time-based sequence of three dimensional images and targeted ultrasound images of the feature that identify changes in the position, size, location, and/or shape of the feature.

  • Publication number: 20150154374
Abstract: A system and method for simulating energy transport between particles and an object in radiotherapy is provided. A three-dimensional representation, having a plurality of voxels, is generated for a portion of a patient to be treated. A material index for each of the plurality of voxels is determined. The material index has an identifier for a first boundary material corresponding to a voxel and a percentage of the voxel associated with a second boundary material. The method further comprises simulating energy transport between a particle and the object by calculating an amount of energy deposited by a particle within the patient based on the material indices of the voxels and a list of boundary materials.

  • Patent number: 8942348
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for performing radiation therapy on a patient. In certain embodiments, the apparatus includes a patient support surface, a gantry having a radiation source rotatable around the patient support surface, a supply arm extending through the central bore, a supply interface disposed on the supply arm, and a supply line connecting the supply interface to a supply source. The apparatus delivers radiation therapy accessories to the patient while minimally interfering with access to the patient by radiation therapy personnel.

  • Patent number: 8929621
Abstract: A contoured surface map of a lesion within a patient is obtained by shifting a reference surface to an estimated location in operational images. The process can be repeated to minimize errors, and the contoured surface map can then be segmented.

  • Patent number: 8366618
Abstract: Methods and systems for assessing the effects of therapy on a patient include obtaining baseline and treatment ultrasound scans of a treatment area of a patient where the treatment ultrasound scans are taken subsequent to the baseline scan and at various times during a course of radiotherapy treatment sessions. The baseline and treatment ultrasounds are compared, and as a result a damage map representing cell death within the treatment area can be constructed.

  • Patent number: 8199981
Abstract: Representations of a segmented, contoured organ or lesion are obtained from two-dimensional or three-dimensional images. A contour within the image of the lesion or organ of interest is used to identify a region around the initial contour and transform it into a boundary image comprising sampling lines that contain points identifying the organ boundary.

  • Patent number: 8189738
Abstract: Radiation beam parameters are determined by manipulating a tool about a patient in order to determine a desired beam entry point and/or beam angle. In certain embodiments, a visual representation of the beam may be displayed along with images of internal and external anatomical features of the patient, and used to determine couch and/or gantry manipulation parameters to move the patient into a desired position with respect to a treatment delivery device.
