  • Patent number: 4417345
Abstract: A holder assembly (2) for an electrode (1) in an electrothermal smelting furnace is movable suspended from a suspension means and comprises a plurality of contact clamps (3) which are pressed towards the electrode (1) by means of pressure producing means and an externally arranged thrust member (5). The holder assembly (2) is further equipped with means for supplying current to the electrode. The thrust member (5) is formed of the cooling shield which surrounds the electrode and the holder assembly. On the inner surface of the cooling shield (5) a plurality of vertical, current conducting rails (7) are arranged. Sliding contacts (10) arranged on the pressure producing means (4) are thrusted against the rails, providing proper electrical contact. The rails (7) are preferably insulated from the shield (5). The shield (5) may preferably be stationary arranged with respect to the electrode and constitute an integral part of the furnace roof/hood (6).

  • Patent number: 4385935
Abstract: A cement slurry of low specific density for cementation of oil-and gas wells is produced by mixing oil-well cement with finely divided emission products comprising amorphous silica dust which has been obtained during the electrothermal preparation of ferrosilicon and/or silicon metal, water, and any desirable dispersion components, the emission products being added in an amount in the range of 1-50% of the total weight of dry material. The emission products can either be mixed with the cement while both components are in the dry state whereupon there is added a sufficient quantity of water in order to obtain a desired specific weight of the slurry or first mixed with water and any other desired dispersion components and this slurry is mixed with the oil-well cement.

  • Patent number: 4382073
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for treating a gravel type solid material with a liquid in a bath are described. The apparatus comprises means for supplying the solid material, means for transporting it through the bath and means for removing the processed solid material from the bath. The apparatus comprises further means for supply of liquid and tapping off of the liquor. The method comprises introduction of the gravel type solid material into the bath at its lower end and removal of the processed solid material at the upper end, the gravel type solid material being gradually transported upwards through the bath by means of rotating lifting members while liquid is introduced into the bath at its upper half while liquor is drained off at the lower half. The lifting member comprises at least one inclined plate which is rigidly fixed to a vertical tube through which the solid material is introduced into the bath or the tank.

  • Patent number: 4376381
Abstract: The present invention relates to a pin tumbler cylinder lock comprising an outer cylinder, an inner cylinder rotatably arranged in a cylindrical opening in the outer cylinder, a key-way intended for a key and at least two rows of parallel bores arranged in the outer cylinder, in which bores spring loaded tumbler pins are slidably arranged. The at least two rows of bores have different number of bores, whereby the key will be prevented from retraction in one or more angular position of the inner cylinder. The present invention relates further to a key for such type of locks, the key having notches along its edge, the depth of which being interrelated with the length of the bottom tumbler pins. At least the notch at the extreme end of the key is removed, whereby the key may be retracted in both positions.

  • Patent number: 4375960
Abstract: The present invention relates to means for transporting/rotating the pot of a smelting furnace. The invention is particularly adapted to furnaces having rotating furnace pots and in particular to furnaces with a split furnace body. The pot is locked from rotation simply by letting the furnace pot rest on its foundation during intervals in which the pot is supposed to be at rest. The pot is rotatably arranged with respect to the furnace foundation and the rotation is produced by means of a plurality of transport means. The transport means are preferably evenly arranged around the circumference of the pot. The transport means comprises lifting means which periodically lift the pot partly or completely off its foundation. The lifting means are preferably of a type which provide a lifting force in vertical direction, either by means of a hydraulic medium or compressed air. The lifting means may for example be formed by one or more flexible hoses which communicates with a pressure producing source.

  • Patent number: 4367215
Abstract: A method of leaching of the metal contents in natural silicates by means of mineral acids to produce a metal-containing leaching liquid and a solid residue is disclosed. The silicate is first crushed but the grain size of substantially all of it is kept above 0.1 mm. It is then leached for a period of time sufficient to form a solid residue consisting chiefly of silica. The process is controlled so that the grains do not change in size or shape in the course of the leaching process. The silicate to be leached may be anorthosite or olivinrich rock and the solid residue from the leaching process may be utilized for building material, as a source for silicon in industrial processes, as a catalyst or carrier of catalysts or as an absorbent.

  • Patent number: 4349060
Abstract: The present invention relates to an anti-skid device for improving the traction of a wheel on an automotive vehicle on the ground. The invention relates also to a method of producing such anti-skid devices. The anti-skid device comprises at least one chain intended to run along the wall(s) of the tire and a plurality of chains intended to surround the entire tread face of the tire. The various chains are interconnected. The interconnection is provided by welding a certain number of neighboring links of two adjacent chain lengths together. The chain length may preferably be equipped with additional gripping elements welded on at least some of the links.

  • Patent number: 4337128
Abstract: A method of leaching of metal sulphide-containing material is disclosed. The metal sulphides can be iron, copper, lead, silver, mercury and/or zinc. The leaching is effected by means of chloride-containing solutions through red-ox reaction. The metal sulphide-containing material is reacted with a solution which consists chiefly of cupric chloride and ferric chloride.

  • Patent number: 4307870
Abstract: The drum of a hoisting apparatus is axially shifted to frictionally engage a driving plate. The drum is shifted by rotating an adjacent, first disc about the drum axis relative to a coaxial stationary disc. Each of the discs has three holes of a particular configuration to define three cooperative pairs of holes. Each cooperative pair of holes receives a dowel of predetermined length so that rotation of the first disc causes the dowel to react against the discs and shift the first disc and drum away from the stationary disc and into frictional driving engagement with the driving plate.
