  • Patent number: 5873385
Abstract: A check valve 10 for a fluid passageway 12 or 14 of a pressure balancer 16 or the like, and having a base plate 40 with an opening 62 therethrough connected in the passageway 12 or 14. The underside 42 of the base plate 40 disposed in the passageway 12 or 14 to face normal flow therein and the upperside 44 facing the opposite direction. A substantially "U" shaped frame member 79 is connected on the upperside 44 of the base plate 40. The frame member 79 carries two leg members 52 and 54 extending from the upperside 44 of the base plate 40 on opposite sides of the opening 62 with a bridge member 72 carried by the leg members 52 and 54 to span the opening 62. A closure member 92 is disposed on the upperside 44 of the base plate 40 adjacent the opening 62. A spring member 80 is connected between the frame member 79 and the closure member 92 normally to urge the closure member 92 to close the opening 62 whenever the flow in the passageway 12 or 14 is less than 5 psi.

  • Patent number: 5871320
Abstract: A retaining device for securing insulation to sheet metal has a flange, an articulated structure and a push plate having an aperture therethrough such that when the retainer, except for the flange, is inserted in a hole in the insulation layer it allows a push plate to be pushed towards the flange, causing a pair of locking fingers to pivot and press up against the underside of the insulation in a locked position. The retaining device is then frictionally fitted over a stud member on the sheet metal to which the insulation layer is to be secured.

  • Patent number: 5865473
Abstract: In a water flow system, a non-metallic liner 50 is placed within at least a portion of a passage 48 of a supporting metallic end body 38 to preclude contact between any water flowing through the system and the passage of the end body. The liner 50 includes a flared section 60 at a first end 54 thereof which engages a bevelled surface 49 of the end body 38 and is held there in sealing fashion by a cone washer 82 and a nut 84 threadedly coupled to the end body. At a location near a second end 56 of the liner 50, the liner is formed with a first stepped shoulder 62 which facilitates location of the liner within the passage 48 of the end body 38 at the second end of the liner. A second stepped shoulder 64 is formed on the liner 50 which provides a location for an O-ring 72 which engages an adjacent portion of the passage 48 of the end body to form a seal thereby.

  • Patent number: 5857365
Abstract: An electronically operated lock has a latch mechanism which is operable by a rotatable spindle. The spindle can be rotated manually either by an inside turn lever or a key operated outside plug or rotated electronically. A pinion is secured to the spindle and a slider supported for vertical displacement has a vertical rack which cooperates with the pinion. The slider has vertically separated upper and lower control surfaces and a rotatable wheel gear has an eccentric axially extending finger located intermediate the upper and lower control surfaces. The wheel gear is driven by a single direction motor through gearing.

  • Patent number: 5839464
Abstract: A cartridge valve 116 includes a fixed disk 80 and a movable disk 118 mounted in a housing 66. A lever 46 extends through a major opening 72 axially located at one end of the valve 116. The lever 46 is attached to a coupler 130 for facilitating movement of the movable disk 118 relative to the fixed disk 80 to control the flow and temperature of water passing through the valve 116. A flexible valve 144 is attached to the coupler 130 and, in normal use of the valve 116, prevents holes 136 formed therethrough from communicating with a passage formed through the movable disk 118. Air from the environment surrounding the valve 116 can enter the major opening 72, and upon the occurrence of a negative pressure in the water supply, will flex the valve 144 to allow air to enter the supply line to negate the undesirable effects thereof. In another cartridge valve 160, holes 166 are formed through the side wall of the housing 66 to provide further air communication through the holes 136 of the coupler 130.

  • Patent number: 5834727
Abstract: Electric welding device (5) for welding a fastening element (4), in particular a weld stud, on a workpiece with a stud holding means (1) comprising a conveying duct (2) which is connected at one end to a supply duct (3) and holds a fastening element (4) in its other end during the welding process and including a loading pin (6) which is displaceable to and fro along the axis of the longitudinal direction of the conveying duct. The pin has a shank part (13) and a head part (12) which can be brought to bear on a fastening element (4). At least the head part (12) of the loading pin (6) is an electrically insulating surface.

  • Patent number: 5834728
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the application of components strung together in the manner of a belt onto workpieces in which the components are intermittently brought successively into a separating position for a respective component. The component halted in the separating position is initially grasped by a spatially movable jointing tool brought to the separating position over a free path, the jointing tool being held in its position defined by the halted component, the grasped component then severed from the subsequent component and is finally transferred by the jointing tool into the respectively desired jointing position remote from the separating position, in which the component is fastened on the workpiece, for example by electric arc welding.

  • Patent number: 5832952
Abstract: A valve assembly 20 includes a housing or bonnet 22 and a stem 24. The valve assembly 20 further includes a thrust washer 26, an O-ring 28, a reversible stop 30 and a retainer 32. A coupler 34, a rotatable ceramic disk 36, a fixed ceramic disk 38 and a bottom seal 40 complete the components of the valve assembly 20. The rotatable disk 36 is assembled by a tight fit with the coupler 34 which, in turn is assembled with a drive bar 90 of the stem 24 by a tight fit. The assembled stem 24, coupler 34 and rotatable disk 36 are assembled within a bore 52 of the housing 22 with a shank portion 74 of the stem 24 extending outward from an opening 56 of the housing 22. The fixed disk 38 is assembled fixedly within the bore 52 of the housing 22 in facing engagement with the rotatable disk 36. The seal 40 is assembled within an opening 54 of the housing and is placed in sealing and retaining engagement with the fixed disk 38.
