Patent number: 4836968Abstract: A multi-chambered conduit insert includes at least two spaced-apart longitudinally extending substantially parallel first and second chambers. The cross-sectional configuration of each of the chambers is defined by generally parallel inner and outer side walls joined at one edge thereof by a base wall and joined in an opposite edge thereof by a top wall. A hinge portion connects adjacent edges of the inner walls and the base walls of the chambers together. Opposite ends of the inner walls are spaced farther apart than the adjacent ends of the inner walls in order to expose the exterior surfaces of the inner walls to a cooling medium during the manufacturing process. In one embodiment, the hinge portion can function as a living hinge.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1987Date of Patent: June 6, 1989Assignee: Sterling Engineered Products Inc.Inventor: Mehmet Y. Cakmakci

Patent number: 4830898Abstract: A composite channel-shaped trim strip for application to a flange such as around the doors and windows of automotive vehicles, and a method for fabricating the trim strip. A perforated stiffener is incorporated in the trim strip to impart shape retention while facilitating bending and distortion thereof to the desired configuration. A rigid barrier member is interposed between the perforated stiffener and the corresponding external surface of the trim strip as the trim strip is fabricated to prevent carryover of the perforated pattern of the stiffener to the external surface. An aesthetically pleasing pattern may then be embossed upon the surface.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1987Date of Patent: May 16, 1989Assignee: Sterling Engineered Products Inc.Inventor: Andrew C. Patent number: 4772170Abstract: A method of stacking boxes, cases, cartons, crates or the like using a computer-controlled apparatus having a lifting grab fitted with two independently movable grippers between which a box to be lifted may be clamped. In a first step, the grab is positioned at a loading station, the grippers are relatively separated and then the grab is lowered over the next box to be stacked. One gripper is then moved to a datum position and the other gripper is moved towards said one gripper so as to clamp a box therebetween. The grab is raised and moved together with the clamped box to a stacking station whereat the grab is finely positioned to have the box correctly placed in the stack under assembly with said one gripper alongside a previously stacked box. The lifted box is released by moving said other gripper away from said one gripper and then the grab is raised clear of the stack without disturbing the placement of the last-lifted box.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1987Date of Patent: September 20, 1988Assignee: Precision Engineering Products (Suffolk) LimitedInventor: Edwin L. Patent number: 4750410Abstract: A control device adapted to be installed in a conduit for an automotive air conditioning system includes a generally rectangular housing mounted, for example, in the dash board of a vehicle to define an opening. A louver assembly is rotatably mounted in the housing on a pair of shafts which extend from end walls of the louver assembly into bearing apertures formed in the ends walls of the housing. An O-ring is installed on one of the shafts and frictionally engages the inner wall of one of the bearing apertures to enable the louver assembly to be selectively and rotationally positioned in the housing for controlling the amount and directional flow of the air out of the opening. A pair of slots formed in the end wall of the housing on either side of at least one of the bearing apertures define a resilient tab which allows the louver assembly to be snapped into and out of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1987Date of Patent: June 14, 1988Assignee: Sterling Engineered Products Inc.Inventor: Jerome T. Patent number: 4729722Abstract: A turbo compressor mounted upon a hollow box-like housing is provided with a noise suppressor which includes a rectangular open ended box-like structure suspended from the housing by flexible walled tubes which constitute an air inlet and an air outlet to the housing through which air flows to prevent heat build up within the housing. The suppressor walls are lined with a sound absorbent material which, combined with the non-rigid suspension of the suppressor from the housing and the non-linear air entrance and exit paths to and from the housing, suppresses sound generated by flow of high pressure air from the compressor into the housing through a shaft bearing. Noise generated by the flow of air into the compressor inlet is reduced by blocking the inlet with a block of porous foamed plastic material which also functions as an inlet filter.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1986Date of Patent: March 8, 1988Assignee: Can-Am Engineered Products, Inc.Inventor: Dennis W. Patent number: 4674167Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for utilizing a unique multi-chambered conduit insert for converting a single chambered conduit into a multi-chambered conduit. In particular, the conduit insert includes a plurality of cooperating longitudinally extending walls defining a plurality of parallel spaced apart coextensive chambers. The outer wall of each chamber which is adjacent the inner supporting surface of the single chambered conduit has a configuration wherein, if the outer wall contacts the inner conduit surface when the conduit insert is inserted within the conduit, such contact is line-to-line contact. This construction results in minimal contact of the insert with the interior wall of the existing conduit and enables the multi-chambered conduit insert to be fed into the existing conduit with the expenditure of minimal energy.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1986Date of Patent: June 23, 1987Assignee: Sterling Engineered Products Inc.Inventors: Charles E. Patent number: 4655359Abstract: A steel hot water tank having a corrosion inhibiting coating on the interior surfaces of the tank is provided with end portions each having concave interior surfaces. A connecting device is used to permit connection of a precoated tank end to a precoated tank interior whereby the heat of welding the tank end to the tank side wall does not degrade the corrosion inhibiting coating of the tank interior. This construction provides increased volume for the tank compared to existing hot water tank constructions, and enables the use of material thicknesses in the tank ends which may be equal to or less than the material thicknesses of the tank side wall. A process is provided which permits the welding of the tank end to the tank side wall without degrading the corrosion inhibiting coatings previously applied to the parts being assembled.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1986Date of Patent: April 7, 1987Assignee: Airclean Engineering ProductsInventor: Donald F. Patent number: 4631871Abstract: A carrier fluid with entrained particulate solid material (14), for abrasive purposes, is fed through an inlet (12) in a housing (3) so as to follow a spiral path, thereby preventing the particulate solid material (14) from settling under the influence of gravity. The housing (3) defines a transfer space (5) which is bounded, in part, by a first end (18) and a second end (20) of the housing (3). The fluid with the entrained particulate solid material (14) is deflected inwardly by the inner surfaces (15 and 16) of the first and second ends (18 and 20) of the housing (3) into a liquid jet (11) issuing from a jetting nozzle (9) in the first end (18) of the housing (3). The particulate solid material (14) is thereby entrained in the outer layer of the jet (11) issuing from an outlet aperture (8) in the second end (20) of the housing ( 3), thus enabling the jet (11) to be used for cutting or cleaning purposes.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1983Date of Patent: December 30, 1986Assignee: Fluid Engineering Products LimitedInventor: David H.
