  • Patent number: 4099682
Abstract: An automatic web winder for winding a continuous web into rolls of predetermined length, the winder including a feed assembly, cutting assembly and measuring assembly positioned to feed the web into a mandrel assembly, the mandrel assembly including a mandrel having a feed-through slot for receiving the lead end of the web, an apron assembly for directing the lead end of the web into the slot and a resolver for indicating the angular position of the slot at the end of each cycle, the signal of the resolver being sensed and used to orient the mandrel to a position where the slot is aligned to receive the lead end of the web in the shortest angular motion, and a roll ejector assembly for automatically ejecting the roll from the mandrel at the end of a cycle of operation, the ejector assembly being activated by the movement of a mandrel bearing support assembly which is moved away from one end of the mandrel to release the roll for ejection from the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4045870
Abstract: An apparatus for inserting a socket into a printed circuit board comprising a supporting structure, first and second resilient fingers attached to the supporting structure, and a socket holding mechanism. The resilient fingers are adapted to receive and releasably retain a socket therebetween at a socket retaining station. The socket holding mechanism is mounted on the supporting structure for movement from a first position on the side of the socket retaining station remote from the printed circuit board toward the printed circuit board along a path which passes through the socket retaining station and between the resilient fingers. As the socket holding mechanism passes through the socket retaining station, the socket is removed from the resilient fingers and coupled to such mechanism so the socket holding mechanism can move the socket to the circuit board.

  • Patent number: 4032288
Abstract: A mineral filler heater assembly for heating mineral filler by directing hot discharge gases from a regenerating system or a thermal oxidizer in heat exchange relation to the mineral filler, and including fluid fuel burners connected to maintain the temperature of the discharge gases above a predetermined minimum, the regenerating system including a modulating damper assembly responsive to the pressure of the discharge gases at the entrance to the heater to control the amount of recycled gases.

  • Patent number: 3977970
Abstract: Waste water containing particulate matter is saturated with air or other gas by a dynamic mixer and ejected into a gravity filter system at a point above the filter media but below the water surface level. Upon entering the filter tank, the dissolved gas is released, forming small bubbles on filterable particles to float these particles to the surface for removal. The system further includes a back pressure valve at the sewage inlet port which, if obstructed, is automatically flushed. During the backwash cycle, the water level above the filter bed may be lowered to the level of a wash-through zone, and filtered water then pumped upward through the filter media, thereby carrying particles from the filter media out through the wash-through zone.

  • Patent number: 3973887
Abstract: A method of producing an asphalt roofing composition as well as a novel roofing composition product is disclosed wherein the usual felt base is eliminated. Layers of flowable, viscous asphalt are applied over a moving belt surface and a fiber glass material is introduced between the two layers. In a preferred form, a release agent is placed between the first layer of asphalt applied onto the moving belt surface so as to afford easy removal of the laminated asphalt composition from the belt. The feltless, laminated roofing composition has the advantage of eliminating the use of the usual saturators associated with felt backing type shingles and at the same time affording the reuse of any scrap material.

  • Patent number: 3941346
Abstract: A seal member is provided for use in concrete wall form construction which sealingly engages with a form bore through which a tie rod supporting the seal member and spacer cones passes so as to prevent leakage of wet concrete from the form. The seal member of resilient material is asymmetrically supported on the tie rod by means of a seal bore within a slit along the length of the seal member. The asymmetric placement causes the spacer cones to overlap and abut the inner surface of the form walls so that they serve as spreaders for location of the wall forms.

  • Patent number: 3930381
Abstract: A universal joint is disclosed for rotationally coupling a pair of shafts, comprising identical yoke members having paired diametrically opposed axially extending arms telescoped into overlapped but circumferentially spaced relation, and coupling block means interposed between the arms and providing pivotal driving connection therebetween through stub shafts fixedly carried by the block means, the stub shafts projecting into bearing sleeves removably retained in apertures in the arms of the yoke members to permit articulation of the yoke arms relative to the stub shafts of the coupling block in transmitting rotary motion from one yoke member to the other.
