  • Patent number: 9822873
Abstract: A position sensor system is useful for monitoring positions of shifters in transmissions and other applications. The position sensing system has an array of magneto resistive sensors and a controller configured to determine a position of a magnet along a path by triangulation. Some embodiments are relatively insensitive to fluctuations in a distance between the sensors and the path. Also described is an actuating assembly comprising a movable cylinder and a fixed rod. The actuating assembly may be applied for moving synchronizers or the like in power transmissions.

  • Patent number: 9771935
Abstract: A variable displacement vane pump has a control slide displaceable within its housing and a first control chamber and a second control chamber for receiving pressurized lubricant. A thermally adjustable control valve is provided in the housing for adjusting pump displacement based on a temperature of the lubricant. In addition to fluid communication channels in the control chambers, at least one vent port is provided in the second chamber. The control valve is configured to control pressure and fluid communication between the chambers along with the control slide. The control valve can help reduce pump displacement at lower temperatures and low engine speeds. At lower temperatures, the second control chamber can be pressurized by the first control chamber. At higher temperatures, the second control chamber can be vented through the control valve and/or the vent port, despite the position of the control slide.

  • Patent number: 9741094
Abstract: A system and method for morphing a design element which precisely and efficiently morphs a design element within a data file to new target parameters by changing its general proportions, dimensions or shape. The present invention is generally a computer software program which loads an existing data file which includes one or more design elements, such as parts or an assembly of parts, and then automatically morphs the design element's dimensions, proportions and/or shapes to meet target parameters input by a user. The present invention will create several groups of points corresponding to each surface and associated bounding curves of the existing design. It will then morph each group into a new shape as per the input requirements by the user, fit the morphed group into an infinite surface, create boundary curves for each morphed group and then trim the infinite surface to create the new, morphed design element.

  • Patent number: 9714486
Abstract: A railroad tie (1) is manufactured from at least plastic (2), wherein an elongated reinforcing structure (3) is embedded in the plastic. The reinforcing structure in the longitudinal tie direction (L) is extending at least from and including at least a part of one (15) of the two rail supporting longitudinal tie segments up to and including at least a part of the other (16) of the two rail supporting longitudinal tie segments of the railroad tie. In the two rail supporting longitudinal tie segments the railroad tie has a lower lateral stiffness than in an intermediate longitudinal tie segment (17), lying in-between the two rail supporting longitudinal tie segments, which lower lateral stiffness is realized at least by change of shape of the elongated reinforcing structure in the longitudinal tie direction and/or by the range within which said reinforcing structure extends in the longitudinal tie direction.

  • Patent number: 9649971
Abstract: A twistlock assembly includes a twistlock having a housing extending along a twistlock axis. A pin is coupled to the housing at a location lateral to the twistlock axis and extends along a pin axis. A pin supporting member is arranged coaxially with the pin, which is slideable along the pin axis with respect to the supporting member. The supporting member is coupled to a shipping unit proximate a female fitment having an aperture. By sliding the pin along the pin axis and rotating the twistlock around the pin axis, the twistlock is moved from a use position in which the twistlock axis is aligned with the aperture and the twistlock is seated on the fitment, to a stowed position in which the twistlock axis is located laterally with respect to the aperture and the twistlock is coupled to the shipping unit by way of the pin and supporting member.

  • Patent number: 9534519
Abstract: A variable displacement vane pump has a pressure controlled valve moveable between first and at least second valve positions based on an output pressure of the pressurized lubricant delivered through the outlet. The pressure controlled valve provides an integrated fail safe function to the pump when an electrical valve fails. The pressure controlled valve is inactive in the first position for an output pressure below a threshold level, allowing an electrical valve (pulse width modulation (PWM) valve) to selectively control pressure in the control chamber under normal operation of the pump. In fail safe regulation mode, the electrical valve function is disabled and the pressure controlled valve is active in its second position, controlling pressure in the control chamber. Channels and vents in the pump can be opened and closed based on selective movement of the valve when the outlet pressure is at or above a threshold level.

  • Patent number: 9506345
Abstract: A method of installing a rock bolt is provided. A bolt hole can be formed by applying an insertion force to a drill rod and while the insertion force is being applied, applying a rotational force on the drill rod to rotate the drill rod and bore the bolt hole. A rock bolt can then be installed in the bolt hole by applying an insertion force to the rock bolt to insert the rock bolt into a bolt hole and while the insertion force is applied to the rock bolt, applying a rotational force on the rock bolt to rotate the rock bolt in the bolt hole. As the rotational force being applied to the rock bolt increases, the insertion force applied to the rock bolt can be decreased until no insertion force is being applied and the rock bolt has been torqued to a desired torque amount.

  • Publication number: 20160311470
Abstract: A method for designing a main body of a trailer, trailer chassis, or like transportable load-supporting system includes selecting a known design of a transportable load-supporting system's main frame. The method includes developing a monocoque main beam having moments of inertia that are respectively greater than or substantially equal to the moments of inertia of the known main frame. Deflections of the known main frame and of the monocoque main beam in response to application of a torsional load, a vertical load, and a lateral load are then determined. Cross-members can be added to the monocoque main beam until the deflection of the monocoque main beam is less than or substantially the same as the deflection of the known main frame. A monocoque main beam designed according to the method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9470292
Abstract: A dual clutch type transmission has first and second sections which respectively include first and second clutches. The clutches may be operated to allow torque transfer from an input to an output by way of the first section or the second section. One or more additional gear ratios is provided by a torque transfer pathway connecting the first and second sections such that torque is delivered from the input to the output by way of one or more stages of the first section and one or more stages of the second section. The additional gear ratios may comprise extra low gear ratios. Some embodiments provide transmissions suitable for driving pumps for use in hydraulic fracturing of geological formations.

  • Patent number: 9409762
Abstract: Provided are nozzles useful for controllably transferring any fluid including without limitation liquids such as hydrocarbon fuels from a first reservoir to a second reservoir. Dispensing nozzles as provided herein have several advantages, including increased control by the technician who is transferring the fluids over the nozzle itself by virtue of greater physical control and less operator fatigue. In addition, a small amount of force applied to the dispensing lever results in a relatively large opening of the control valve mechanism. Further, when line pressure is zero or near zero, it is not possible for un-metered fluid leakage to occur, which provides cost advantages to large volume vendors of liquids such as hydrocarbon fuels which are dispensed on a routine basis, such as at airports. Safety is also greatly enhanced, since latent quantities of fuel cannot flow out from lines equipped with the nozzles provided when supply lines are not pressurized.
