  • Patent number: 8998416
Abstract: An opthalmological apparatus includes a base station having a light source for generating light pulses, and an application head mountable on an eye having a light projector for the focussed projection of the light pulses for punctiform breakdown of eye tissue. The application head has drivers for moving the light projector in a feed direction and in a first scanning direction. A scanner is arranged in the base station in order to deflect the light pulses in a second scanning direction. The opthalmological apparatus includes an optical transmission system for transmitting deflected light pulses from the base station to the application head, and for superimposing the light pulses deflected in the second scanning direction onto the movement of the light projector in the first scanning direction.

  • Patent number: 8999017
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for achieving fast pyrolysis of wood and other carbonaceous solids in rotary reactors. Novel heating, feeding and condensing methods result in high oil yields near those currently achieved with more complicated fast pyrolysis systems. High intensity burners are arranged and controlled to produce high heating rates and uniform temperature of the rotating cylindrical walls of the reactors. The feeding system delays the onset of pyrolysis until the solids fall onto the heated kiln walls. The pyrolysis gases and vapors are rapidly withdrawn and quenched with recycled liquids. The first condenser incorporates a clean out nozzle. Char products are readily separated and discharged into a heat exchanger where heat is recovered and used together with heat from reactor flue gas to dry the solids prior to being fed to the reactor.

Abstract: The liquid feed nozzle assemblies for a circulating fluid bed reactor comprise (i) a throttle body premixer to combine liquid feed with atomization steam upstream of a nozzle body to form a liquid feed/steam mixture comprising liquid feed droplets; (ii) a conduit connected to the venturi premixer and to a discharge nozzle body to convey a flow of the liquid/steam mixture created by the premixer to the nozzle body; (iii) a discharge nozzle connected to the flow conduit to shear the liquid feed/steam mixture to create liquid feed droplets of reduced size and (iv) a disperser at the outlet of the discharge nozzle to provide a spray jet of liquid feed having an increased surface area relative to a cylindrical jet. The nozzle assembles are particularly useful in fluid coking units using heavy oil feeds such a tar sands bitumen.

  • Patent number: 9000331
Abstract: A capacitive sensing system for being connected to a heating element comprises a capacitive detector connectable to the heating element and a common mode choke for essentially preventing alternating current from flowing from the heating element to the heating current supply. The capacitive detector is configured for driving an alternating current into the heating element and for producing an output indicative of capacitance based upon the alternating current. The choke has a first and a second winding for connecting the heating element with the heating current supply. The choke comprises a third winding connected in parallel of the first and/or second winding. The capacitive detector is configured for measuring a portion of the alternating current flowing across the third winding and for taking into account the measured portion of alternating current when producing the output.

  • Patent number: 8997789
Abstract: An apparatus for preventing backflow and contamination, and detecting by-pass leaks in a flow control arrangement is disclosed. The apparatus includes a vent line connecting a sweep gas source and a vent. Constant process-inert gas flows from the source through the vent line into the vent. The vent line is connected with the flow control arrangement. Any leakage in the flow control arrangement is channeled to the vent line and swept into the vent along with the sweep gas. As a result, pressure in the flow control arrangement cannot build up and leakage backflow is prevented. A flow switch may be disposed on the vent line for detecting leakage. The sweep gas flow rate is controlled at a constant level that is inadequate to actuate the flow switch and keeps the flow switch ready to actuate by any superimposed leakage. The flow switch detects a leakage when it actuates.

  • Publication number: 20150093202
Abstract: A new jacket design method is disclosed, especially for deepwater water heavy jacket applications. The method utilizes a special type of air bags, called Ship Launching Air Bags (SLAB), to provide low cost temporary buoyancy used for jacket installation purpose only. A designer only needs to satisfy the jacket stiffness for the resistance of environmental and gravity loads without the consideration of jacket reserve buoyancy. The required jacket reserve buoyancy could be increased with the utilization of temporally attached SLABs during the jacket installation.

  • Publication number: 20150091406
Abstract: A permanent magnet motor includes a P-pole-implanted permanent magnet rotator containing a ferrite magnet in a laminated silicon steel sheet, wherein, at one pole, a U-shaped permanent magnet comprising three parts, and, at the outer periphery of the U-shaped magnet, one outer-periphery permanent magnet disposed longitudinally in the peripheral direction are provided to generate permanent magnet torque. At one pole, the permanent magnet rotator generates reluctance torque using two salient poles formed between the U-shaped permanent magnet and the outer-periphery permanent magnet. One central salient pole is formed between the adjacent poles. A stator comprises an M-phase stator winding that is a distributed winding, and a stator core having Ns slots. The ratio of Ns/P/M is a common fraction. When the width of the center salient pole is set to ?cp and the slot pitch of the stator core is set to ?s, ?cp is smaller than ?s.
