  • Patent number: 8894966
Abstract: A micro-mixer and use thereof for synthesis of barium sulfate particles is disclosed. The micro-mixer includes feeding tubes, reservoirs, a mixing channel, a buffer reservoir and a sampling tube. The mixing channel is made of hydrophobic materials and processed into a spiral structure, in which baffles are set in interval arrangement at both sides of the channel wall. The types of the baffles include leaning-forward baffles, vertical baffles and leaning-backward baffles. Setting the baffles helps produce local secondary flow in the mixer, which enhances fluids mixing process. The micro-mixer is suitable to rapid reactions or precipitation processes, whose reaction time is much less than mixing time, and has broad application prospects in many fields involving mixing reaction such as pharmaceutical and chemistry industry.

  • Patent number: 8894845
Abstract: Hydrocarbon feedstreams are desulfurized using an alkali metal reagent, optionally in the presence of hydrogen. Improved control over reaction conditions can be achieved in part by controlling the particle size of the alkali metal salt and by using multiple desulfurization reactors. The processes herein allow a simple and effective method for removing the majority of coke formed in the alkali metal reagent reactions with the hydrocarbon feedstreams. This makes it cost effective to run such processes at higher severities (which result in higher coke production) thereby resulting in increased amounts of valuable converted hydrocarbon product yields. The process improvements herein may also be used to increase total throughput through a unit due to the ability to effectively manage higher coke content in the reaction products.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for capturing CO2 from a combustion source using molten carbonate fuel cells (MCFCs). The fuel cells are operated to have a reduced anode fuel utilization. Optionally, at least a portion of the anode exhaust is recycled for use as a fuel for the combustion source. Optionally, a second portion of the anode exhaust is recycled for use as part of an anode input stream. This can allow for a reduction in the amount of fuel cell area required for separating CO2 from the combustion source exhaust and/or modifications in how the fuel cells are operated.

  • Publication number: 20140341350
Abstract: According to embodiments, in a medical diagnostic imaging apparatus, an imaging unit captures a subject in a second X-ray irradiation area narrower than a first X-ray irradiation area. An X-ray image generating unit generates a first X-ray image in the first X-ray irradiation area and a second X-ray image in the second X-ray irradiation area based on an imaging result by the imaging unit. The adjusting unit calculates a statistic of a pixel value of the first X-ray image and adjusts an operating condition of the imaging unit so that the statistic approaches a threshold. A control unit causes the imaging unit and the X-ray image generating unit to generate the X-ray image based on the adjusted operating condition. Subsequently, the control unit performs control for causing the imaging unit and the X-ray image generating unit to generate the second X-ray image based on the operating condition.
