  • Patent number: 8881655
Abstract: The present invention describes a projectile (100,100a,100b,100c,100d) containing two luminescent dye components (123,125) and a dye powder (126). The first luminescent dye component (123) is contained in an ampoule (122) while the second luminescent dye component is contained in a vial (124) disposed inside the ampoule (122). A front crusher (120,120a) is provided at a front of the ampoule to crush into the ampoule and vial, thereby allowing the dye components to react and give a luminous glow. Upon impact at a target, a nose cap (110) of the projectile (100,100a,100b,100c,100d) breaks and a rear crusher (130) behind the ampoule throws the ampoule (122) forward and sputters the luminous dye out of the nose cap (110); at the same time, the dye powder (126) surrounding the ampoule is sputtered out to mark the point of impact. In addition, a thermal glow is also provided to mark the point of impact. Projectiles also allow light tracing.

  • Patent number: 8885165
Abstract: A fluorescence detecting device receives fluorescence emitted by n kinds of measurement objects within wavelength bands FLk (k is an integer of 1 to n) set so that the fluorescence intensity of fluorescence emitted by a measurement object k becomes higher than that of fluorescence emitted by the other one or more measurement objects, and acquires fluorescent signals corresponding to the wavelength bands FLk (k is an integer of 1 to n). Each of the fluorescent signals is subjected to frequency-down conversion by mixing it with a modulation signal for modulating the intensity of a laser beam Lk (k=1) corresponding to at least one of the wavelength bands FLk to produce fluorescence data including the phase delay and intensity amplitude of the fluorescent signal. The fluorescence data is corrected to calculate the phase delay and a fluorescence relaxation time is calculated using the phase delay.

  • Patent number: 8884219
Abstract: A method of operating a differential mobility spectrometer includes an ionization chamber, a filter channel and a detection region. In the ionization chamber, analyte ions are produced from a sample, the so-obtained ions are then subjected in the filter channel to a time-varying electric field. The time-varying electric field has a longitudinal field component drawing the analyte ions from the ionization chamber through the filter channel into the detection region and a transversal field component, which is the superposition of an asymmetrically oscillating transversal field causing the analyte ions to move to and fro in transversal direction and a compensation field for selecting a species of analyte ions by substantially canceling the average transversal velocity of the selected species.

  • Patent number: 8885516
Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for extending a deterministic network over a wide geographical area. According to one embodiment, an IED may transmit data frames using a deterministic frame-based communication protocol, such as EtherCAT, via a local deterministic fieldbus. A first transceiver may encapsulate the data frames for transmission over a multiplexing synchronized optical network, such as a SONET network. A second transceiver may de-encapsulate the encapsulated data frames and transmit them via a remote deterministic fieldbus, such that communication between the local and remote deterministic fieldbuses is deterministic. Accordingly, an IED may communicate with a high level of determinism and/or in real-time with various components in a power delivery system across a wide geographical area including multiple deterministic fieldbuses.
