  • Patent number: 6747628
Abstract: In conventional liquid crystal display controllers such as for portable telephone sets, the display is reduced in the stand-by state but the liquid crystal display duty is not changed, i.e., even the common electrodes of the rows that are not producing display are scanned, and the consumption of electric power is not decreased to a sufficient degree in the stand-by state. A liquid crystal display controller (2) includes a drive duty selection register (34) capable of being rewritten by a microprocessor (1), and a drive bias selection register (32). When the display is changed from the whole display on a liquid crystal display panel (3) to a partial display on part of the rows only, the preset values of the drive duty selection register and of the drive bias selection register are changed, so that the display is selectively produced on a portion of the liquid crystal display panel at a low voltage with a low-duty drive.

  • Patent number: 6748266
Abstract: Application of electrical pulses is made in a controlled manner, in order to increase the absorption of substances applied previously on the skin. Optionally, mechanical vibrations may also be provided to the skin to increase the absorption effect. The electrical pulses are provided to the skin by way of an array of electrodes disposed on a vibrating head plate, and the mechanical vibrations are provided to the skin by way of the vibrating head plate being made to vibrate (if that option is utilized). Preferably, the electrical and mechanical vibrations are at the same frequency and phase with respect to each other, in order to increase the absorption effect.

  • Patent number: 6745544
Abstract: A simple operation winds film around, and thereby wraps therewith, a loadable object over its entire (six) surfaces. Film is wound spirally around the loadable object by revolving film feeders along a circular path about a horizontal axis while advancing the object through the circular path and along a path of the horizontal axis in one direction. After the loadable object is so spirally wrapped, it is rotated in a horizontal or vertical plane by an angle of 90 degrees. The loadable object is then advanced in the reverse direction again through the circular path while the film feeders are revolved as before to cause another film from the film feeders to be wound spirally around the loadable object. One film feeder may furnish a continuous strip of film, and another film feeder may furnish a continuous string of film formed by compression of such a strip of film.

  • Patent number: 6748507
Abstract: A single-chip microcomputer comprising: a first bus having a central processing unit and a cache memory connected therewith; a second bus having a dynamic memory access control circuit and an external bus interface connected therewith; a break controller for connecting the first bus and the second bus selectively; a third bus having a peripheral module connected therewith and having a lower-speed bus cycle than the bus cycles of the first and second buses; and a bus state controller for effecting a data transfer and a synchronization between the second bus and the third bus. The single-chip microcomputer has the three divided internal buses to reduce the load capacity upon the signal transmission paths so that the signal transmission can be accomplished at a high speed. Moreover, the peripheral module required to have no operation speed is isolated so that the power dissipation can be reduced.

  • Publication number: 20040104488
Abstract: An optical component package includes a substrate, an optical component, a plurality of spacers, a plurality of wires, and a transparent molding compound. The optical component is disposed on the substrate, and the surface of the optical component located away from the substrate is used to receive an optical signal. The spacers are disposed between the substrate and optical component. The wires electrically connect the optical component to the substrate. The transparent molding compound encapsulates the optical component. In this case, the diameter of each of the spacers is equal to the thickness of the transparent molding compound minus the thickness of the optical component minus the distance between where the optical signal enters the transparent molding compound and where the optical signal is received by the optical component. Furthermore, this invention also discloses a packaging method for the optical component package.

  • Publication number: 20040105926
Abstract: A method of creating curved sausage links involves extruding an elongated sausage strand having linear protein fibers therein out of an elongated hollow meat emulsion extrusion tube. The flow of meat emulsion through the tube is partially restricted by a restrictor element within the tube which permits a portion of the meat emulsion to pass thereover in a substantially uninterrupted manner, but which requires a separate layer of meat emulsion to have its movement through the tube inhibited by engaging the restrictor element and having to move thereover to exit the tube. When the sausage strand is subjected to heat, the uninterrupted portion is inclined to have more lengthwise shrinkage in the presence of heat than the other layer, thus causing the sausage link to assume a curved configuration. The machine for practicing this method has a stuffing tube with the restrictor element therein as described heretofore.

Abstract: The present invention is related to a method for oligomerizing olefinic monomers under oligomerization conditions to form higher olefins. The novel method comprises contacting a feed comprising the olefinic monomers with a catalyst composition comprising the reaction product of: (a) a compound having a formula selected from the group consisting of M[S2C2(RaRb)]2 and M[S2C6(R1R2R3R4)]2, wherein M is a late transition metal, Ra, Rb, R1, R2, R3 and R4 are independently selected and may be the same or different and are selected from hydrogen, electron-withdrawing groups and unsubstituted and substituted hydrocarbyl groups; and (b) an activating cocatalyst. The improved method advantageously relates to oligomerizing olefinic monomers from feed streams having contaminants, especially sulfur-containing contaminants.

  • Patent number: 6745191
Abstract: A parallel database management system with a database divided into a plurality of external memory units is disclosed. A control CPU, upon receipt of a request for access to the database, decides whether the access request is for storing or searching a record. For a record storage request, the control CPU determines an external memory unit to store the record using a hash function. In the case of a record search request, on the other hand, all the external memory units are searched in parallel without using the hash function thereby to obtain the desired record. The hash function is altered upon addition of an external memory unit.
