    Abstract: A colorimetric radiation detector and a method for detecting radiation is disclosed. The colorimetric radiation detector also includes a metal oxyhalide that reaches an excited state on exposure to x-ray or ultraviolet radiation. The detector also includes a dye or where the metal oxyhalide is a bismuth oxyhalide, such as a bismuth oxychloride. The dye may include a redox reactive dye. The redox reactive dye may include Rhodamine B. The dye undergoes a permanent color change by reacting with the metal oxyhalide when the metal oxyhalide is exposed to x-ray or ultraviolet radiation. The dye may include a fluorescent dye, such as a fluorescein dye, such as 6-carboxy fluorescein or 5-carboxy fluorescein. The solvent may include a Lewis base solvent. The Lewis base solvent may include water or an alcohol. A method for evaluating a photoprotective topical lotion is also disclosed.

The diluent may comprise at least one of: one or more C18+ linear alpha olefins (LAOs) having a kinematic viscosity of about 4 cSt or less at 135° C.; one or more LAO dimers formed from one or more C18+ LAOs, the one or more LAO dimers having an internal olefin and a kinematic viscosity of about 6 cSt or less at 135° C., or one or more paraffinic hydrocarbons having an even carbon number distribution and formed through dimerization of one or more C18+ LAOs and subsequent reduction. The one or more paraffinic hydrocarbons may have a kinematic viscosity (ASTM D-445) of about 4 cSt to about 8 cSt at 135° C.

    Abstract: This disclosure discloses an extraction column for metal separation in an acid leaching solution of laterite nickel ore, and an extraction process thereof. The gas distribution device is used to control a pipe diameter of a gas outlet of the gas distribution device in a suitable range. Using turbulent effect of bubbles floating in a liquid phase, collisions and shears of the dispersed phase form dispersed phase droplets with suitable sizes.

    Abstract: An apparatus and methods are provided for a magnetic cover for an air filtration system for an internal combustion engine. The air filtration system includes a housing that has an interior that receives an air filter. A mount portion comprising the housing supports the air filter. The magnetic cover encloses the interior of the housing. An edge portion surrounding an opening in the housing forms an airtight connection with an edge portion of the magnetic cover. The edge portion of the housing includes a number of magnets that attach to a similar number of magnets in the edge portion of the magnetic cover to establish the airtight connection. A seal provides an airtight connection between the housing and the magnetic cover. The housing and the magnetic cover are configured for hand removal of the magnetic cover from the housing.

A camera, having a focal plane in which the diffuser substantially is located, is configured to obtain a digital image of the diffuser and thus to obtain a digital image of the incident light the sub-beams of which the aperture mask transmits onto the diffuser. A controller is configured to electronically receive the digital image of the diffuser and to measure the wavefront of the incident light based on the digital image. Methods also are provided.

    Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to systems, methods and tools that measure ionic concentrations and downhole enthalpy of a flowing geothermal fluid in real-time at high-temperature and pressure. The systems, methods and tools include measuring the concentration of selected naturally occurring ions found in the liquid phase of the geothermal fluid throughout the wellbore using novel electrochemical sensor technologies. The change in liquid-phase ion concentration will be used to calculate the proportion of liquid to steam and allow for accurate enthalpy measurements. The techniques and technologies described here can be applied to any application of electrochemical sensing in extreme environments.
