Publication number: 20180043164Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for treating a sexual disorder such as erectile dysfunction (ED) or female sexual arousal disorder (FSAD). An electrical stimulation system may include an implantable stimulation unit, an external patient controller, and an external physician controller. The implantable stimulation unit has an array of electrodes disposed on one or more flexible substrates configured to conform to a patient's anatomy at the pelvic plexus. Post-implantation, the physician controller may direct the stimulation unit to stimulate with select electrode(s) of the array to determine which electrode configuration provides optimal sexual arousal. The patient controller may be used to cause the stimulation unit to stimulate using the optimal electrode configuration at desired times.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2017Publication date: February 15, 2018Applicant: ECOLE POLYTECHNIQUE FEDERALE DE LAUSANNE (EPFL)Inventors: Rodrigo Araujo FRAGA DA SILVA, Nikolaos STERGIOPULOS

Publication number: 20180031376Abstract: System and methods for computing true wind and true current are described. True wind estimation occurs through automatic calibration of data obtained from data acquisition devices (102, 114, 116, 118, 120). Real-time boat performance information is generated through automatic target speed computation. Maneuvers are found in data obtained from the data acquisition devices (102, 114, 116, 118, 120) and, if properly calibrated, wind just prior to a maneuver should be the same as measured wind just after the maneuver. If the measured wind values are not equal, the sum of the wind difference over all maneuvers is minimized.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 13, 2015Publication date: February 1, 2018Applicant: ECOLE POLYTECHNIQUE FEDERALE DE LAUSANNE (EPFL)Inventors: Julien Vincent Pilet, Jonas Olof Martin Östlund

Patent number: 9876931Abstract: We propose new methods for creating color varying prints with classical cyan, magenta, yellow inks on a metallic specularly reflecting or on a white diffusely reflecting substrate. We use a special cross-line halftone with optimized surface coverages of the inks to create cross-halftone prints whose colors change when rotating the print in-plane under specular reflection. These prints enable viewing at the same location a first image with a first set of colors and upon in-plane rotation of the print or displacement of the observer, a similar or a different image whose parts are colored with a different set of colors. Applications comprise counterfeit prevention, art, advertisement, decoration, exhibitions and surprising displays in amusement parks.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2016Date of Patent: January 23, 2018Assignee: Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale Lausanne (EPFL)Inventors: Petar Pjanic, Roger D. Patent number: 9871948Abstract: A multimode waveguide illuminator and imager relies on a wave front shaping system that acts to compensate for modal scrambling and light dispersion by the multimode waveguide. A first step consists of calibrating the multimode waveguide and a second step consists in projecting a specific pattern on the wave guide proximal end in order to produce the desire light pattern at its distal end. The illumination pattern can be scanned or changed dynamically only by changing the phase pattern projected at the proximal end of the waveguide. The third and last step consists in collecting the optical information, generated by the sample, through the same waveguide in order to form an image. Known free space microscopy technique can be adapted to endoscopy with multimode waveguide, such as, but not limited to, fluorescence imaging or Raman spectros copy or imaging, 3D linear scattering imaging or two-photon imaging. Patent number: 9794525Abstract: Systems and methods for tracking interacting objects may acquire, with a sensor, and two or more images associated with two or more time instances. A processor may generate image data from the two or more images. The processor may apply an extended Probability Occupancy Map (POM) algorithm to the image data to obtain probability of occupancy for a container class of potentially interacting objects, probability of occupancy for a containee class of the potentially interacting objects, and a size relationship of the potentially interacting objects, over a set of discrete locations on a ground plane for each time instance. The processor may estimate trajectories of an object belonging to each of the two classes by determining a solution of a tracking model on the basis of the occupancy probabilities and a set of rules describing the interaction between objects of different or the same classes.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2015Date of Patent: October 17, 2017Assignee: ECOLE POLYTECHNIQUE FEDERALE DE LAUSANNE (EPFL)Inventors: Engin Turetken, Pascal Fua, Francois Fleuret, Xinchao Wang

Patent number: 9791684Abstract: The invention relates to an optical coherence microscopy system for fast, phase resolved imaging by means of optical coherence microscopy with decoupled illumination and detection apertures, producing a dark-field effect with an enhanced optical contrast. The setup uses a light source with an appropriate temporal coherence, an interferometer and an array detector combined with a spectrometer. The dark-field effect is produced by optical filter means in the illumination and detection paths, positioned in conjugated planes of the sample microscope objective. These optical means comprise for example refractive or diffractive elements, amplitude or phase masks, or programmable spatial light modulators. The object is scanned via a scanning unit allowing a point scan of the object.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2011Date of Patent: October 17, 2017Assignee: Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL)Inventors: Martin Villiger, Christophe Pache, Theo Lasser
